Title: Fun Things To Do In RE4
Post by: Mario on August 29, 2005, 06:42:05 AM
Let's share some neat things we've found in RE4 that people might not know about or have thought about doing.
- After the lake monster battle, when it's raining, that place near the lake with the wolf monsters, I like to lure them to the dock and get in the boat, then throw spears at them, it saves ammo and it's comical. - Attempt to defeat chainsaw guys with only the knife, i've managed to get a hit in once and successfully flee, but the next time I tried I got my head cut off, i'll kill one eventually though! - When there's a whole group of enemies coming towards me, I like to shoot one of them in the legs so they kneel over, then run up to him and kick, sending the whole group flying back.
More ideas please! I'm having a blast with this game, on my third run through, on Professional mode.

Shooting a guy carrying dynamite when he's in the middle of a crowd is always fun. So is shooting people in the knees then running up and doing a suplex.

Call me sadistic, but I get a kick out of killing merchants and burning Leon by standing underneath a lamp and shooting it. It's also fun to crawl underneath tables in Ashley's second outfit, but that's a different kind of fun.
Chicago Typewriter is fun period.

I am currently doing what one of my friends call a "Vidmaster Challenge" (history behind the name is some gamer dude called Vidmaster once beat the game Marathon with only a pistol. Or tried too. I don't remember).
ANYWAYS, I'm currently trying to beat RE4 using only a maxed out Blacktail and grenades (well, and the knife too). I'm doing rather well so far...I just got past the point with the Novistadores...
I am dreading the HELL out of the Regenerators, though. I dunno what I'm gonna do. Well, aside from die horribly.
Running outside the Cabin Scene with the Typewriter and killing everything.

You can fire randomly at them and hope you hit something. You practically have to before you get the IR sights.
Title: RE: Fun Things To Do In RE4
Post by: TMW on August 29, 2005, 10:43:37 AM
Actually, my friend (same one) says he's tried to do that without the IR sights, and he thinks its impossible to hit the targets without them...i.e., the game requires you to get the IR sights.

Don't you have to dispose of the first Regenerator without the aid of the IR scope? (Unless you just run past it, which totally isn't my playing style.) Also, you can drop/sell the IR scope at any point after picking it up, so the game would be unbeatable if you couldn't defeat them with it.

Post by: TMW on August 29, 2005, 10:55:26 AM
Well, you can! It takes about 30 shotgun shells and 15 or so magnum shots...My first time through the game, I completly bypassed the IR scope, so I had to pour all my ammo into the regenerators. It was horrible.
This time, all I have is the blacktail, though.

I just fought my first regenerator the other day, it only took a few shotgun shells, I have no idea what you're talking about. Isn't it about WHERE you hit them, not how much you hit them? Perhaps I got lucky. Whatever, it seems perfectly possible to beat the game without the IR sights OR wasting all your ammo =P
Title: RE: Fun Things To Do In RE4
Post by: vudu on August 29, 2005, 11:27:11 AM
I seem to remember it took between 8-10 shotgun blasts to the chest area to take down my first Regenerator. As KN said, it's all about where you hit them. There's usually 4 or 5 spots to aim for and they're generally in fairly predictable spots (upper right, lower left, etc). Although I imagine it will be much harder with a pistol, because you don't get the spread you get from a shotgun. Good luck.

I haven't played through the game with the Chicago Typewriter or any other of the fancy weapons yet, so i'm greatly looking forward to that.
Shooting people holding dynamites is indeed very fun.
About the Regenerators, isn't the first one you encounter without the scope merely a few rooms away from where the scope is anyway? If that's the one i'm thinking of, I just get the scope and then go back to it and take it's name.
Yes, crawling with Ashley is indeed a.. fun thing to do, especially with the second outfit.

Perhaps I should continue with the game. But then I only have the german version so there's probably nothing to unlock, anyway...

KDR - Couldn't you get a different version? I seem to remember reading that only the copies sold in Germany were missing stuff. Surrounding countries should have the full version intact.

I like shooting doors. I know it wastes ammo and allows for the baddies to get get in easily but it had become an addiction for me.

Trying to kill the el gigante's with a knife, lol.
I got the idea when i first fought against two of them and was low on ammo, i ended up killing the last one with a knife! I stuck him in the achilles tendon, Hahahaha!.....................after needing to use about 5 herbs though......

vudu: I can but that'll cost money again. Or do you mean back when I bought it? It would have been possible I think (I was very close to the austrian border back then) but I didn't know the other versions in Europe were uncut. There's also a store in town here that sells games you can get in other european countries, like God of War.

Due to a recent error, I will now change that quote to: "I only need to beat this game twice so I can play it again. God dammit."
Edit: blol, no one's going to understand that. I saved over my old file with another round 1game.

ARGH. The same thing happened to me. I finished it and started another file, but on Professional.
I still play every now and then, but I stopped when I realized that I couldn't beat the second El Gigante. I beat the sisters with chainsaws (forgot their names), so I went back to go through the El Gigante's path, but I can't beat him. I keep missing the rock...it hits Ashley.
lol

Yeah, fortuantley I started another Normal game. I'm personally challenging myself to conserve as much money as possible while beating it as fast as possible, I'm hoping that by the time I finish this game I can tackle the round 2 on Professional mode (I definitley wasn't ready before, I'm doing much better this time.)
The only danger is that I might get sick of the game after beating it twice in a row like that I still need to beat Assignment Ada and try to get four stars on every Mecenaries level (eventually I'll do the five star every level every character challenege, but not for a while...)
Title: RE:Fun Things To Do In RE4
Post by: Toruresu on September 13, 2005, 12:09:26 PM
Assignment Ada...now THAT brings memories. I had to finish it by cheating (anyone watch G4? Cheat! once had a RE4 show, and they showed a way to easily kill Krouser at the end, and that's what I did lol).
Mercenaries is extremely fun, but for me...well, let's just say that I can only get two stars with Leon. So I still...don't have any other character...Yeah, I suck.
lol

For Toruresu Play with Leon on the milatry stage. His shotgun is reasonably against J.J. It should be relatively easy to unlock Hunk from that level.
Then use Hunk to open up Ada in the village with Hunk by using neck breaker on the sisters. Hand Genades is your best friend here.
Then use Ada in Water World. Her weapons are effective against Mr Chainsaw.
Lastly use Wesker from Water World to clear the castle. Use the Killer 7 on the Galdiator. one in front then finsh with another in the back.
As to unlocking the hand Cannon. Well thats up to how much skill you can muster. Good Luck.
Fun things to do.
Look up Ashleys dress to see how many phrases she has. Do the same thing with a sniper rifle to see how much detail Capcom put in. Suprisingly detailed . Playing with just the IRL . Suplexing everyone for an entire level.

Man I didn't know if unlocking the Handcannon in mercs would be worth it but OH IT IS. You can max it out to a 99.9 powerlevel with infinite ammo.
Now I'm actually going in and trying to get all those bottlecaps.
Question for you guys: The Right Hand and "It" are total pains in the ass to kill right? Well don't you guys like to what I do and just buy a rokcet launcher right before you fight them and them come battle time WAMMO! Annhilate them?
Title: RE: Fun Things To Do In RE4
Post by: oohhboy on September 28, 2005, 04:50:16 AM
Well if you want to burn 30K for one shot, your choice. "RH" on normal is a walk in the park, but in pro is a nightmare if you want to kill it. Evading it till time is up is easy enough. "IT" is fairly easy to kill on either difficulty. Since "IT" can be killed with normal weapons you can use almost any weapon to take "IT" down.

Now I forgot what Right Hand and It were, though I'm sure I defeated both.
Title: RE: Fun Things To Do In RE4
Post by: vudu on September 28, 2005, 08:48:48 AM
The Right Hand you met in the sewer after Salizar dropped you in the pit. It was nearly impossible to kill your first time through unless you wasted A LOT of ammo on it. However, if you could manage to avoid it for a couple minutes an elevator would come and then you could escape. I think the elevator brought you to the mines.
IT was a giant mutant that you fought towards the end of the mines (I can't remember if it was before or after the mine cart). You had to run around in a maze-like room, throwing switches in order to drop sections of the room you were fighting in. After you got out, you could finally kill IT by running around in a large room with a couple large pillars/rocks in the center and some gates to slow IT down while you blasted it with your shotgun.

You can't suplex people in the Village. Once you get into the Castle the kick command is replaced with suplex (well, sort of, you can still do the kick but only if the enemy is in the right position)....

I bought this tonight, and I intend to play it as soon as possible. However, my friends are insisting on watching disgusting pornography (featuring Bridget the Midget and a clown, at the moment), so I've got to persevere.
I think I'm going to be sick, meanwhile. My friends are saying the same but no one's stopping the tape. Ugh.

Hunk is over-rated. I still don't understand why he's so well liked. Without a weapon that packs 'oomph', it's really difficult to take down the sub-boss characters in the various mercenary levels. Give me Krauser any day.

Post by: vudu on October 05, 2005, 10:18:27 AM
Really? The Island is one of the harder levels to get 4+ stars on.
Ada's really easy to get (from the Village) ... just hold up in the second level of the barn and blast the townsfolk like crazy. Every now and then they'll stop coming and you'll have to take a lap around town square to get them to respawn. If you Hunk just wait until they're a big group of them and then drop a grenade. Also be sure to take full advantage of the exploding barrel for an easy half dozen kills.
Wesker is earned by beating Waterworld, which isn't hard. I recommend Ada because she has the sniper rifle and since the level is so wide open you can get some nice combos going with minimal effort. Just be careful around the Dr Salvadors.
Krauser's pretty easy to get on the castle provided you're using Ada or Wesker. It can be a little bit of a pain if you're using Leon and downright hard if you're using Hunk. The hardest part of this level is taking out the blind guys with the razor claws (which is impossible to do without eating up all your grenades if you're Hunk).

Thanks Vudu, not the first person in the forum to tell me how to do it, thing is, I keep getting killed. Maybe I'm just not that good, but I'll keep trying.

Finally got the game, and I must say.....It's amazing. If anything it was under-hyped.
I haven't beaten it, but my favorite part so far was when I rode the mine cart and had to fend off the "folk" while swerving and careening down a mine shaft. The way that area ended was bad ass.
JUMP! CLIMB! DAMN IT CLIMB!

Eh, I've got to say it's a little overrated. I'm on the second disc now and it feels like I'm just doing the same thing over and over again. Still incredibly fun, but not the best thing that my Gamecube's ever seen by a long shot.
Title: RE: Fun Things To Do In RE4
Post by: oohhboy on November 08, 2005, 12:19:50 AM
Yeah, that is a small problem on the second disc. Instead pf pushing more enemies on you they just up the damage. The second disc just isn't as creepy as the first. but you will be rewarded with one sweet ass fight and it really picks up near the end.
Playing on pro mode is also alot of fun as the stakes are higher than before. Hunk was also my first unlock. I then procced to maul the village with neck breakers. But early on, kneecap them and kick them as it is lethal to groups the villagers initailly. The sisters are the only sub boss that can be neck breakered.
Leon universally sucks on all levels. The sisters eat too many shells, same with the Doc, hard to get the prisoner to turn round, reasonalbely effective against JJ assuming near point blank headshot with the shotgun. Although he does have the shotgun, the overall lack of ammo for both guns hinder him pretty badly. His kicks has no fists in it and his suplex only kills the first group or so of guys in one hit. But his pistol does make a good headshooter as pistols "criticals" far more than other guns.
Hunk on the other hand has neckbreaker. Also unlike Ada, he brings his gun up to his shoulder allowing for much faster headshots. If it gets alittle too much to neckbreak, hose them alittle or hrow a short genade.
Wesker sucks in the village as the sisters eat way too much ammo. But is best on all other levels.
Krauser is effective on every level but never outright amzing.
I find Ada is only a little better than leon. Her punisher is weak, even when taking into account of the shot through factor. The TMP is fired from the hip and is not as strong as Hunks. The auto rifle is weak sauce against bosses and abit slow against normals. Her context moves are as weak as Leons. Too bad sexy isn't something one can use against Zombies.
Title: RE: Fun Things To Do In RE4
Post by: vudu on November 08, 2005, 09:11:11 AM
Quote Leon universally sucks on all levels. It's hard to get the prisoner to turn round [in the castle level]
I find it's best to hang out in the lower courtyard until the first Garrador comes out. Then you make a mad dash up the staircase (going to the next part of the level) and then hang around the area above the staircase until the Garrador follows you. From there you should have a perfect shot at his Plagas. A couple direct hits and he's a goner.
I never go into the final area of the castle because it's just not worth it. There are too many Garradors and I can rack up points just fine without them.

Post by: NinGurl69 *huggles on November 08, 2005, 01:12:01 PM
I found playing the main adventure, relying mostly on a pistol (Exclusive Handgun or Exclusive Punisher), satisfying on a shot-for-shot basis. Shotguns, etc., get the job done a little too quick, and take away nice kicking and suplexing opportunities.

Hunk's Neck Breaker: Shoot an enemy in the face, causing them to bend over in pain as they cover their face with one hand. Then run up to them and press A-button as if you were to use Leon's roundhouse kick.

Anytime I'm stressed out (though usually I tend to opt for SSBM instead) I like to replay the village (where the first big fight occurs) using my Chicago Typewriter, IRL, and/or maxed out Broken Butterfly. Gets rid of the villagers and my stress real quick-like
I've been meaning to try killing Dr. Salvador with the knife again. I (stupidly) tried the first time I played the game. Leon didn't last long.
