Title: Star wars games
Post by: BeyondtheGrave on July 05, 2005, 05:34:00 PM
Anybody else wonder why lucasarts appears to favor the xbox over the other consoles?

Because the Xbox and people who like Star wars are mostly the same demographic.

!!!
I am OFFENDED by that statement!
Most of the people I know who own X-Boxes are nothing but idiotic, mainstream whores. Star Wars=nerds. Nerds=/=mainstream.

ok well just so people know my theory on this its real simple
George lucas = Freemason Bill Gates = Freemason
And thier you have the only reasonable explaination as to why lucasarts would continully back a losing console.

Well, Star Wars games are extremly mainstream now. They aren't exactly cult hits anymore really. Sure, the hardcore fan is still hangs around the shadowy outter regions of mainstream society, but the games are very much mainstream.

For the same reason Lucas Arts no longer makes adventure games or Greedo shoots first: George Lucas is a retard extraordinaire.

KDR wins!
Seriously though...Star Wars has gone main stream. When Darth Vader is on the cover of the Rolling Stone, its no longer a geek only thing.
As for why Lucasarts is backing the Xbox....I have to agree with KDR on this one.
HAN SHOT FIRST!

Star Wars was always mainstream, it's just the geeks that aquire in-depth knowledge (extended universe, anyone?).

Star Wars = Western
Xbox > GC sales especially in US
And Star Wars games didn't sell to hot other than the orginal SW Rogue Leader, the sequel bombed Rogue Strike along with the others like Clone Wars, Bounty Hunter, and Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.
Other lucasarts games that bombed--Gladius.
Just like everyother 3d party developer, lucasarts dropped gamecube support because of the overall sales.

Look, I was just saying that Xbox offers the PC style gaming that many Star Wars fans would enjoy.

"Xbox > GC sales especially in US"
No Xbox > GC sales only in US.

The Cube gets no more support from Lucasarts for the same reason most American third parties dropped support from the Cube. Lucasarts has fallen into the trap that nearly every American publisher has fallen into. They released a lot of generic sh!t and it didn't sell as good as they expected. They have to makeup their losses somewhere so they cut support. The Cube is the third place console so it's the one that gets the axe. Rebel Strike's sales are an excuse. It would be stupid to drop support after one game, that was clearly flawed, bombed when it's predecessor that was much better sold great. They can't afford to crank out so much crap and dropping Cube support is a quick fix that requires less effort than making better games.

stevey: No, in the US, in Europe and worldwide. The japanese sales aren't enough to make up for the lead the XBox has in the other territories.
Ymeegod, Ian: Yes but the PS2 sold more than GC and XB combined, yet LA doesn't support it as much.

Well one advantage of the xbox was the fact that developers can hit two markets fairly easily and MS is throwing cash at them to boot. Not really hard to see the decision making there :0.

The PS2 market is larger than even the XB and PC games market combined.

Yes, I hate it when something I call my own goes mainstream.
Like Green Day.
American Idiot was a great album but now the entire universe is stealing MY Green Day.
Hell they won a f*cking Kid's Choice Award.

"American Idiot was a great album but now the entire universe is stealing MY Green Day."
Dude, "your" Green Day was stolen by the entire universe with Dookie. Unless you weren't a fan then in which case you stole MY Green Day.

My friends and I are reponsible for Family Guy and Chappelle's show being popular at our school. Before the new season of FG was even rumored we were talking about it and its come back on [adult swim]. And Chappelle's show wasn't that popular until season 2 and he had been my favorite comedien for several years by the time his show was announced.

I stopped watching "The Amazing Race" after its ratings went up (Season 4 or 5).
We're all bastards lol.

It doesn't really affect me since I have both the Xbox and GC.

Yeah, but after Dookie it still faded away to a select few. But now "I'm so goddamn punk rock, I went to that American Idiot concert last night."
Sicken me, it does.
Kid's Choice Award...pfft...

Ole Rossie O. hosted that damn thing every year until she came out.

"PS2 market is larger than even the XB and PC games market combined. "
And it's the most flooded too. Hundreds of games are released each year and there's alot of games that get lost in the fold.

Nothing is more flooded than the PC market.

You're talking about yearly? PS2 had 150+ titles last year vrs less than 100 on the PC unless you're taking into account education & budget titles which most retailers finially realized don't sell.

Nothing but platinum albums since Dookie (not counting the Shenanigins b sides album or the best of record). They've been mainstream ever since. But I get what you're saying. They are a "cool" band again. But that's a good thing. What do you want kids listening to? Limp Bizkit or Green Day? I'd rather have them listening to somthing that might get them into even better music on down the road. Green Day is a great jumping off point. If it wasn't for Dookie I may have never gotten into Rancid, Bad Religion, Operation Ivy, Fugazi, NOFX, The Clash, The Ramones or The Sex Pistols. Know what I mean?
Oh and I know exactly why there aren't anymore SW games for GC. Becuase SW games "R TEH ROXERS" and the GameCube is "ONL:Y FER GAI BABIES!!111onezero".
