I will agree with you that there haven't been many video game parodies.  Perhaps its because people feel it is too niche a market to make fun of?  Conkers was more of a movie parody with a few game parodies.

The game actually looks interesting.

Conker was more of a movie parody, but it did some game parodying too.  "Squirrels get as many lives as they think they can get away with."
You know, it seems to me like there really aren't many parodies in general in gaming...not just parodies of other games.

As for Asterix, I love all the references they've jammed in there, but I wonder if they'll really put them to use in the end?  Looking at a few of the screens, it felt like they were ripping other games' ideas off under the guise of parodying them than actually parodying.  After the initial joke about FLUDD is over, how is running around shooting stuff with water any funnier in this game than in Super Mario Sunshine?  How is it not just stealing a neat idea from someone else?

Not to say I don't like the idea, I think it's pretty cool.  I'm just not sure if a videogame parodying other videogames can really be pulled off...I think it might come off like a copycat.  Good luck to the developers!

I know that C:BFD is parodying movies, making it a parody game, and A & O while also being a parody game is parodying games.  I don't see it so much as stealing other games deas, I think its more them just making fun of the other games.

Nintendo was soo sure that someone would steal their water pack idea...... Now they did, with Mario look-alike included.  I'm sure its a bunch of themed areas, like Conker, that would use the look (and feel?) of many well known games to make not just make fun of those games, but also (hopefully) to mak a fun game that is all of your favorite games (in spirit)

I don't know much about the game but it already looks like fun, and if I owned a PS2 i would probably get/rent this game.

couchmonkey: You are aware that the guy with the waterpack is a legionaire, i.e. an enemy?

I am now!  Actually, I figured that out later on, there's one shot where Asterix is covering up one of the Legionaires, so it looks like he's wearing the water pack at a glance.  My mistake.  I'm still skeptical, but I hope it works out because it looks like fun.

I doubt it'll be a good game because the first one sucked and I doubt the second will be any better. Was there ever a good Asterix and Obelix game?
