Title: Bomberman DS (except it's just called Bomberman)
Post by: Infernal Monkey on June 21, 2005, 05:25:16 PM
So this is out in the Presidents of the United States of America now, but it doesn't come with millions of peaches for free. You should all buy this, because it's Bomberman. Eight player multiplayer with one cart, over 100 stages in the single player mode. IT'S BOMBERMAN IN 2D. GO NOW.
Due out in Europe/Australia and all that jazz next week (budget priced, too!)

I was unsure about this game, until they started talking about all the different modes of play. I am very excited about the multiplayer, even though I will most likely only be able to play it against the CPU bots.

To those of you who have this, would you say its worth it if I don't have someone to play it with? My only main friend who has a DS is moving away soon.

Playing with CPU characters is still fun!

I don't know if I want this game or not, because I still need to have enough for Meteos and RE4 and I think some other game that I'm forgetting, maybe, don't know. I've never played a bomberman game before, but 29 multi modes sounds hawt.
I AM TORN

Didnt RE4 go down in price? I think so
Anyways, a friend of mine is getting this, thank goodness for 1 card multiplayer

Bill: Tell me what you think after a few days of play.
Are the bots intelligent, or do they use that nice cheap programming Hudson uses to keep them alive?
Is it worth playing alone? Single player and multiplayer bots? How are the multiplayer levels and such? Are they original?
Pretty much everything.
Pretty Please.

Will do...As for now, I've played a 4 vs 4 team bot battle and 7 stages of single player...The team battle was fun, and the bots are standard Bomberman fare...The single player was also fun, though a little dry compared to, say, Super Bomberman 2...I'll get back once I do a boss battle or two and have hit the multiplayer more solidly...

Thanks in Advance Bill.
I have played almost every Nintendo version of Bomberman. I think the single player game is very old school traditional gaming. Yes, it is repetitive, but so were so many other games during that classic era of gaming.

A few more impressions...
Single-player is challenging, just like the old Bombermans...A little more variety in level design would have been nice, but it's good anyway...The bosses (I've fought two so far) were fun and the means of killing them were different...I expect each boss will have different methods of defeat, which is nice
Multiplayer is obviously the meat of this, and any, Bomberman...I played through a few more modes, such as Skull (played in a graveyard with lots of mystery items (which end up mostly being skull items, yuck), Speedy (everyone starts off really fast, but to make up for it there are a lot of sandals, aka speed-downs), and Voice Bomb (you speak to lay your bombs, which is a lot of fun actually)...The bots are obviously cheap, which isn't surprising, but it's still fun to find out ways to get around their "all-knowing" behavior...Can't wait to play with actual humans, though...
Is it worth the purchase? If you are a Bomberman fan, definitely! If you haven't played a Bomberman game before and are thinking about making this your first, do...It's great, and it's 8-player 1-cart multiplayer for crying out loud!

I really dislike the Revenge bomber in this game. Basically what you do (Despite the manual's poor description) is grab your stylus, aim with the D pad and 'fling' your bomb by touching your Bomber at the bottom of the touch screen and drag upward. Trouble is, I have no idea how you can aim properly at the top screen. Oh, and you can blow into the mic to make it a dangerous bomb that covers uper and lower west and east sides, but thats still very little range.
Plus the Reversi Battle in this is kind of frustrating. If you die, you become a revenge bomber with the lowest range possible. Its possible that you can still win, but when you have people with all flames and remote bombs running around at top speed, you're just screwed.
Still, this is quite fun, and some of the modes make some good multiplayer.
Oh, and for the voice recognition. Forget about saying 'Bomb' or whatever since you can just blow in the mic to set off the action. Though again, forget about playing the voice modes in the car since the rattling in the car is probably going to ALWAYS set off your bomb.
Oops.

Sounds Great.
IF you die playing with bots can you speed the battle up and not have to wait for the computer to finish the round?

If there is, I haven't found it...If I want short rounds I just set the time to 1 minute...

Quote it's 8-player 1-cart multiplayer for crying out loud!
Is it full single-cart multplayer, or is it limited, like Rouge Agent?
