Title: Red DS Announced for Japan

Japan: 6, North America: 2

Hot on the heels of April's Candy Pink and Turquoise Blue DS systems, Nintendo has quietly announced plans for a sixth standard DS color for Japan.  Simply labeled Red, the new color will launch on August 8th, coinciding with the release of Jump Super Stars.

Seriously though, why does Japan get the color lovin'?  Is it to make up for the fact that we got the DS first?

I think Nintendo is being more pro-active on appealing to gamers in Japan b/c they're afraid the market is dying.  That, and they probably make more profit on sales in Japan (though I really don't know much about that stuff).

TMW: Europe also got more colors for the SP. Noone wants colors in the US.

On top of this, Nintendo of Japan is releasing some limited-edition Mario DSes with wireframe art of Bowser, Peach, Mario, Yoshi and Wario on them (and a different colour for each character).
My guess is that NOA is shying away from bringing lots of new colours to the market in the U.S. for fear that it will make them look immature.  Look at all the bright N64 controller colours we had, or all the GBC colours.  Then everyone freaked out when they used Indigo for the main colour of the GameCube.  I'm also guessing new colours don't have as big of an impact on sales in North America.  I could be wrong about that one, but it seems like most people here just want black or silver, or maybe white.

Is it just me, or is the bottom of the system black?  Does anyone know if it's just the bottom-outside that's black, or if all of the outside is black?

the entire bottom half of the system is black.  Its the same way on every other DS including the silver that is in the US.

Wow.  If someone had asked me five minutes ago what color the bottom of my DS was, I would have said silver.  I guess I don't pay nearly enough attention to these kinds of things.

...I wonder what color the bottom of my GameCube is....

I wish they released the pure white one in the US. It's the only one that's all one color too.
