I think the bigger news is that Nintendo Power is changing. I've been suggesting they make something not as useless for years. It's not a demo disc but just the fact that NP has changed suggests that we might start to see demo discs in the future.

BTW, if you have three games registered with Nintendo (which just about everyone should have, to have gotten the Zelda bonus disc), you qualify for a free three-issue trial subscription to "the new" Nintendo Power.

NP has been getting a lot better in recent months and this Zelda DVD is only further proof of it...Now to wait a month to actually get it...

Will I have to get a subscription to get it?
Or could I just pick it up in a store?

That and the free three months got me to sign up again. First NP subscription I've had since the 8-bit days. My last subscription involved three years and a free copy of Dragon Warrior. Perhaps they'll stick some free download codes for the Rev's download service in them in the future?

I signed up for a subscription when they had the Zelda Collectors Disc offer.
And has I had never picked a NP up, I was majorly disappointed by the magazine. But, I looked it this way. I bought the Zelda Collecters Disc for $20, and got a free magazine subscription.

I guess I am a weirdo for acctually enjoying NP the way it was, but I do think this change is for the better.
One of the strategy guides in the first "new" issue of NP is Killer 7. I guess they are also growing up a bit as well.

I got an e-mail from Nintendo about this. How exactly does it work?
Hypothetically, if I have 4 games registered at Nintendo and I use 3 to get my free issues of Nintendo Power and then in 2 months Nintendo says anyone who has 2 games registered with us will receive a free so-and-so, will I get my so-and-so, or will I only have the equivalent of 1 game registered because I used my other 3 to get Nintendo Power?

If you have at least two games registered, you'll get the free "two game" gift. The registered games aren't "used" up. For instance, Nintendo offers a new Zelda bonus for having four games registered. I register four games and get it. Later on, Nintendo offers a Metroid bonus for having eight games registered. I just have to register four more games to get a total of eight.

Subscriber since 1990! Admittedly with a decade or so gap in the middle... its cool that their website remembers me though.
Title: RE: Zelda DVD included in new NP
Post by: ruby_onix on May 21, 2005, 04:05:34 PM
Yep. To elaborate a little bit more...
To get the Zelda bonus disc, I think you needed to have "a GameCube and 2 games" registered with Nintendo.
To get that Metroid bonus disc that they had, you needed to have "a GameCube and 5 games" registered. That meant that if you had gotten the Zelda disc (through registering games), you just needed to register three more games to get the Metroid disc.
To get these free issues of Nintendo Power, you need to have "three Nintendo products" registered. I'm pretty sure that means that anyone who registered in order to get the Zelda disc is already qualified (because a GameCube counts as a Nintendo product).
I was already pre-qualified, but I have more than three products registered, so I can't say for sure.

Post by: Flames_of_chaos on May 21, 2005, 08:32:53 PM
Well it could also mean any console and/or games registered they just have to add up to 3. Like i have 19 nintendo products registered there. Each free thing has a different stimpulation and no registered product gets "used up"

Oh now they put DVD's or discs in the magazine after I don't re-subscribe. "Well it seems that dack25 didn't renew, we better start putting in good stuff now to piss him off".

I actually liked Nintendo Power way back in the day...in the days of the NES and Super NES, I thought it had a real "club" vibe to it...like I was part of something. It felt like a publication by Nintendo fans for Nintendo fans.
But slowly and surely it made itself more and more commercial and I lost interest. Advertisements filled the pages, original comics were replaced by still-frames of the cartoons, and the strategies which had once seemed so cool to me stopped being cool because I learned that playing games without them was usually more fun. To some degree I just outgrew NP, but to some degree it lost what made it fun to read even though it was basically a big, biased advertisement for Nintendo. When they didn't have any renewal offer that interested me around the time the Cube came out, I quit.
But hey, free magazines, can't beat that! I'm interested to see what the "new" NP is like...I kind of doubt that it will appeal to me, but I have to agree that it's a good thing for them to at least try to change.

Maybe I will re-subscribe for little things like that. But hey does anyone know if I can get the Jan 2002 issue with the Smash Bros CD in it? My old one was lost and I soooo want to listen to it again, does anyone have it and is willing to sell it? I tried e-bay but with no luck at all.

I probably got one of last copies thanks to a sweet favor an NOA rep did for me when I emailed regarding the CD but I had subscribed a month late. He rolled my subscription back by 1 month and made my first issue the Jan 2002 issue+CD since they had some left (SCORE!!).
Good luck finding someone who'd give it up.

Is it possible to get more than one subscription to a single house? I have multiple accounts with multiple game registers. I guess I could try it and send out a few copies of the CD to you poor LDC'ers.

I believe the CD in question was included in the January 2002 issue of NP. So unless you have a time machine, it probably won't happen. Nice idea though.

All the DVD contains is the Twilight Princess E3 trailer, which most of us have already downloaded. Not really enough enticement, imo.

You're forgetting "AND MUCH MORE!" which probably means high quality versions of other E3 trailers (and maybe stuff from the press conference, which is a stretch). Considering virtually all the Zelda trailers on the net are either poorly encoded/compressed or have a filesize that's much bigger than it's worth (wasted bandwidth, yes that includes you, PGC), seeing these trailers ON TV, with near-source clarity, is very welcomed by me.
I want to see the Geist trailer.

Hopefully they'll include the other two Zelda trailers as well, for spits and higgles.

Hmm I've been subscribing since 1989. I've seen the magazine slowly change to what it is today. It was always a great magazine and it only seems to keep getting better and better. I was actually printed in that magazine three times. One a letter from a topic called games you have bought that werent like anything you expected. And two envelope arts. The change Nintendo Power pretty much reflect the companys new image. I have to admit its more appealing! Nintendo Power forever! Oh by the way does anybody have Nintendo Power Volume 98 and 109. James Bond on the cover for Golden Eye 007 and the other has Banjo Kazooie I believe. Those two issues had my artwork printed in them. My Dad decided to take them to show to others. As Months and Years came to pass. He lost them. So Please help me. If anybody has those issues please tell me and maybe we can work something out.

I dont know what the exact issue number is for Pierce Brosnan(James Bond) Golden Eye on the cover is. But if you have that and volume 89 with Banjo Kazooie on the cover. You'll be my savior. Please Arbok I'll do anything but please dont make me pay alot. Out of the goodness of your heart keep it reasonable for sentimental sake. Give a proud part of my life back!

Heh. Well, I guess I'll find out in 5 to 10 business days.

One is with Goldeneye 007 on the cover and the other volume 109 with Banjo Kazzoie on the cover. Those two issues has my art work like I mentioned earlier. I may have them. I stopped subscribing to Nintendo Power sometime during the early N64-era. If I do have them, I'll send them to you if you still need them. Only problem is, they're at my parents' house, which I won't be visiting for at least 3 weeks.

Kamek_X - Unfortunately, it turns out I don't have the issues of Nintendo Power you need. My subscription ended at issue 102, and I seem to be missing issue 99.
However, I did a quick eBay search for Nintendo Power Magazine and I came up with a ton of hits. You can usually get at least 12 issues at a time for around five bucks. This one has the GoldenEye issue. This one has 70 issues for $10, and includes both the issues you're looking for. I'm sure you can find on deal on here. Sorry I couldn't have been more help.

I received my first of 3 free issues the other day and, yes, it included the Zelda E3 trailer DVD. I haven't had the opportunity to watch it yet, but it is there, inside of the magazine. I believe the issue I received is the August 2005 edition of Nintendo Power.

IMO the Zelda trailer was unimpressive. The graphics are good (but I'm not sure they're better than RE4), and nothing really "wowed" me. If this wasn't a Zelda game, I think I'd let it pass me by.
Pheonix Wright Ace Attorney was the one that really impressed me... and Hello Kitty looked a lot less insipid than I expected.

Trauma Center really caught my interest, with the surgery-turned-puzzle-solving(?) aspect (HELLOOO NURSE!). The Pheonix Wright trailer was quite entertaining.... BUT IT WAS MOSTLY ANIMATED ARTWORK GRRR.
Oh, I must not forget about Castlevania. Must. Not.
