Title: Bloody Zelda?
Post by: Luigidude on May 13, 2005, 10:37:11 AM
Would you want the new LoZ to be like God of War?

Would you prefer the Zelda nudity?

Not to mention the massive amount of blood.....

Are you really that shallow?

The shadow temple was really creepy in OoT, it had skulls all over, falling guillotines, blood, even some torture devices, why? because it suited that particular temple. Im confident that if Aunoma and team put blood in the game, it will be for good reason, not to please annoying teenagers...

but... you know, theres like a whole thread about the game just above.

I will not complain about blood as an atmospheric presense, a la the Shadow Temple example, but enemies (outside plants) bleeding would be unacceptable...Nudity? NO...I'll stick with the low-key sexual innuendo...

I think I would actually laugh out loud if I were playing and after rescuing the princess she took off her top.  It would seem so out of place in the Zelda universe that I just couldn't help it.

After that though, I would cry.

i saw that scene on god of war on g4 tv..that is so goddamn stupid and cheesey

As long as Nintendo has the guts to release it in Germany even with blood I don't mind. God of War wasn't released here because SCEE si teh kidie (they didn't want to taint their "family friendly image"). I honestly couldn't care less whether Zelda uses blood or big flashes but I prefer to have some hit feedback.

I played a demo of God of War for like three minutes before deciding that it was really stupid. Just another example of how people are really just buying the big "M" on the cover instead of the game.
Title: RE:Bloody Zelda?
Post by: Luigidude on May 14, 2005, 01:51:15 PM
I totally agree with you.....most people thought that just because a game has an "M" on it...it's good....

It is simply because games like GTA and Half Life 2 (which are in fact good) have an M on them....

Though I must agree...when an M game is out, it is like that game has a 50/50 chance of selling well...unless that game has a huge fanbase...then the stakes are 70/30.

It is all a matter of overdoing it.....take Killzone for instance....

God of War has nudity? LMAO. I hate these morons trying to make games into movies. 'Games are art!' Um...no...they're GAMES. Morons. But seriously, it has nudity?
Title: RE:Bloody Zelda?
Post by: Renny on May 14, 2005, 04:03:57 PM
Apparently so. That sells movies, so why not games that try to be movies?

In my humble, ignorant opinion, games are art if they are trying to do something new, and not simply emulating other established mediums. Pikmin 2, to me is the pinnacle of any recent game for impressing me mechanically, visually, aurally and emotionally while still regarding itself as a lowly video game.

Considering it's a game about Greek mythology, and Greek mythological sculptures and paintings show the gods with minimal clothing, I think I have an idea of the context of the nudity in the game...
Title: RE: Bloody Zelda?
Post by: KDR_11k on May 14, 2005, 08:33:18 PM
Yeah but I doubt they included nude men.

Anyway, claiming God of War is only liked because of the blood is stupid, it wouldn't have 94% on Gamerankings if it was just a shallow hack&slay game. And in a move that will piss Bill off infinitely, the main character is called Kratos.

Yeah Link should've totally not let her back down on the marriage thing, she grew up to be super hot.

You know what would sell is if Link saw Zelda and pitched a tent.  Man every kid would have to buy that game.

Nintendo could cover their ass by making it fairly subtle.  Possibly making it a sort of optical illusion.

Do a few similar things with Zelda and her nipples and boom you doubled sales.

Nudity in Zelda?
That's the same as Mickey Mouse getting laid in Kingdom Hearts or as in Sick and Hell No!!!
Although I can understand why this would come about(the natural evolution of the series, it must grow up at some point) I don't believe it to be an enhancement for gameplay, storytelling, art direction or emotional connection, so no, not in my zelda game. And don't give Mario a gun either.
Title: RE: Bloody Zelda?
Post by: mantidor on May 16, 2005, 02:21:37 AM
The "sex sells" argument lost his ground when you realize that E rated movies can easily make more money than R rated ones. Of course that sex sells, but that doesnt mean its necesary for the game to has it in order to be succesfull.

Don't they pack heat already? You know, fire flower power and all... :P

Though technically FLUDD could be considered a gun. Well, more of a super soaker really, but still.

Title: RE: Bloody Zelda?
Post by: KDR_11k on May 16, 2005, 09:26:22 PM
When was the last time Mario was able to use a fireflower?
Title: RE:Bloody Zelda?
Post by: NW on May 16, 2005, 09:43:35 PM
Super Mario World? Or SSBM...sorta.

If it's any indication from the screenshots of the new SMB game for the DS, the fire flower will be making a return soon.

I think that minimal blood appearance would be good enough. Gannondorf spit some out in OoT (before it was changed to green goo) and it was fine. Nudity and blood shouldn't be in a game just for the sake of being in a game, it should have a reason to be there. I doubt that a Zelda game would need those things to be sold, anyway.

Super Secret Sexy Ending!

If you collect all the hearts, all the figurines, and beat the game without dying, Zelda takes off her top.

There is blood in the new Zelda. If you saw the trailer, when Link becomes the Wolf he does some kind of charging attack and kills like 3 enemies at once. You can see blood coming out of their torsos when they're on the ground, unless it's something else.

In all honesty, they wanted to. Particularly on the monsters. Jaffe wanted to be kind of like a zoo, where there's no magic anatomy shield, you see it right there as it's attacking you (he talks about it in the "Character Graveyard" bonus feature). You weren't particularly supposed to enjoy it, but it was just one more aspect trying to make it seem like a mature, honest adventure, not something glossed over. (Sony ultimately made him cut the male nudity, but not the female.)

Oh, and if you can't look past an M rating to enjoy God of War's gameplay, you're far shallower than someone buying it just for the nudity. I know this is an N board, but God of War is an enjoyable game. Saying it's crap just because the content is rated accurately makes things questionable when Geist stumbles in, which, last I checked, is also destined for an M rating, complete with "Partial Nudity."

Post by: BranDonk Kong on May 20, 2005, 12:09:28 PM
Well I was wrong. I thought there was blood when I watched the live pre-E3 conference, when watching the high-res trailer you can see it's just a design on the creatures' chests.

Title: RE:Bloody Zelda?

Adding blood wouldn't really bother me as long as it serves a purpose I don't want it to be bloody just to appeal to thsoe gamers who want violence, but if done for the sake of the story then its ok, however I really doubt this Zelda will get any higher than a T rating so I really doubt it will get too violent.

Why in the world would LoZ need nudity?  Its not necessary to tell the story it would in fact detract from the series.

Perverting the LoZ series into something like God of War?  Wrong Sick!

As with everyone else, Zelda with nudity would be quite lame. It would be very out of place and completely unnecessary. I've been of the mindset that gore and nudity should only be used sparingly and to prove a point, anymore seems silly (God of War is a perfect example of that, especially the "bed scene", that seemed to be there just for the sake of being "mature"). I do admit I enjoy the GTA series but I don't take it seriously either, and personally would pick up a Mario or Zelda game over it ANYDAY. God of War is an ok game, but it felt like a Rygar clone and like other hack n slash games it started getting repetetive, though I do admit the game has its moments (the first stage was a blast and quite thrilling).

Ya really....there was no need to go into further detail.

I will say this though....Nintendo has always made those great fairys look like complete sluts. Go to any OOT fairy and they are usually in some weird sexual position.

There is and has always been sexual innuendo in the Zelda series, but it's always been pretty much low-key, which makes it enjoyable to find for those that look for it and make it easy to avoid for those who don't...
Title: RE: Bloody Zelda?
Post by: couchmonkey on June 01, 2005, 06:36:38 AM
I agree with Bill.  I like how they fit it in to the series now.  To me, innuendo is more entertaining than outright sexual references anyway, because I have to be clever to get in on the joke.

Well, this is just my personal opinion on the matter here but no, I don't want to ever see Zelda like that. If Nintendo ever chooses to make such a game themselves, they should make it with a new IP. Zelda has always  had a magical, surreal atmosphere - it's always kinda given me the same feeling I get when I watch Miyazaki films.

And yes, I have played God of War.

No, if I remember correctly, you need to play on a Game Boy Colour and finish the special colour dungeon.
