Title: Kirby: Cursed Canvas
Post by: RABicle on April 17, 2005, 05:56:02 AM
Ok now the more Nintendo Australia deny Kirby's existence, the more I want to play Kirby games. I predict it has 3% chance of making it to Australian shores. So anyway, this game looks entirely fistworthy and I need to figure out how to import it when it hits stateside.

well Rabicle what about that DVD website thing some of the aussies here use to import cube games, do they offer DS games yet? Or I suppose you can try Play-asia or Lik-sang if they offer it.
And Im anticipating this title as well I wonder if NOA is including that free stylus I forget if its rainbow colored or pink but it would still be a cool freebie.

Yeah DVD Crave should get it in when the US version comes out, if it's not out here around the same time. It'll be cheaper too.

I think that it's the pink one and that pac pix comes with a yellow one.

Is this really the only thread on Kirby Canvas Curse? Jeez....
Does anyone know if any stores in the US is selling this game for $30? EB Games, GameStop, Target, Circuit City and Walmart all have it up for $35. Best Buy doesn't list it yet. Is it available anywhere else for cheaper, or am I going to have to buy my first $35 DS game?

My Pac Pix didn't come with any stylus.

Check around on price... sometimes you see a pretty wide variance. EB lists DS Star Wars for $39.99, while the Media Play here in town has it for $29.99

RAb i'm sure you could work out a pretty easy way to import it via another poster on these forums.. you'd have witnesses to the transaction, too

"Is this really the only thread on Kirby Canvas Curse? Jeez...."
I second that, although I think there was another one when the Japanese version came out and there were positive impressions. I'm really excited about this game - this is the first of a flood of DS titles that I have to get.

I played it a bit at E3, not very long, just a few minutes and it seemed like a decent title, but it didn't exactly seem as awe-inspiring and awesome as when I played the New Super Mario Bros or even Meteos. If it becomes a playable demo at my local EB I'll give it another shot, but I doubt I'll be looking to buy Kirby, instead I'd rather save up my hard earned pennies for the *REALLY* good games that are coming out in the next few months.

Interesting...this is supposed to be one of the *REALLY* good games for the platform. Buuuut. Everyone has their own definition of that, dont they? Personally, the only games on my MUST BUY list are Castlevania, Mario Kart and Phoenix Wright...followed closely by like A DOZEN on my "ZOMFG I want" List.

You should add Trauma Center to your MUST BUY list. Famitsu gave it a 31/40 ... not bad at all.
EDIT: I want Kirby CC

This, bomberman, and meteos will be mine on the end of the month. Kirby was on my musy buy list since the first videos came out.

I just saw a commercial for this game. I saw a finger pushing Kirby on a swing. Even though it was on mute, I still laughed.
Too many silly costumes, not enough gameplay.
Anyone know where I can download the full version? Berto and Professional, I'm looking in your general direction.
EDIT: In case anyone cares, Circuit City is going to sell this game for only $30. Linky

I'm loving this game. I've only played about 15 min
kirby is hella fun to play with, as usual tiny town is a trippy level design.

Any multiplayer stuff? It seems it is somewhat like touch 'n go. (enemy up top, race to the finish?)

no multiplayer, which is a shame. they could at least have had some of the kirby 64 minigames...
it feels like touch n go at first, which im sure countless haters will knock the game for, but this is much more fleshed out than yoshi's game. its a solid adventure title

It has the same idea KINDA as T&G. But that's like comparing Mario games to Sonic games.
This game is a really complete game though. There's so much variety, which is something that was sorely missed in T&G.

My stupid store doesn't have this game yet.
"We have two on order." she says.
Two on order my foot. They have effing Batman Begins for sale on shipping date, but they can't have KCC?
...at least I have WarioWare Twisted to tide me over.

after playing this game some more, i think it will only give me a month or two worth of playing...which isnt bad for 35$, but i want something that makes me wanna play play play and play...
ok, i mean kcc will give me about 30 hours of gaming till i get bored (im already getting a tad bit tired with it...not MUCH viriety in it*
i want a game thats going to give me like 70 hours + (like i think all the ff games have done)
i want something like phantasy star, mixed with supersmash brothers, mixed with nintendogs, all in one package..... ok flame away! gnight!

NONE.

I have played some 2D platformers for way over 70 hours, BUT I beat them in much less time...the game just had tons of replay.
Those games are:
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Super Mario World
Ok...platformers that is all that I can remember.

Got this yesterday and I'm enjoying it so far. The time trials/paint trials are really fun to play! I wish there was multiplayer for like the racing game, but that's ok!
The ad is available at Nintendo.com's game page. I personally think it's hilarious
Title: RE: Kirby: Canvas Curse

Uh oh, not mature enough! (Seriously, it's a great ad...)
Title: RE: Kirby: Canvas Curse
Post by: Artimus on June 18, 2005, 11:37:05 AM
I love the ad because it's intentionally lame. If Sony ever did an ad like that it'd be called the funniest thing ever. Except for the Mario Sunshine ad, the big suit ads are the best. Who can forget Animal Crossing's take on the Real World? Or Super Smash Brothers Melee's brawl?
Title: RE: Kirby: Canvas Curse
Post by: KnowsNothing on June 18, 2005, 01:10:45 PM
Or the Mario Party house party? Nintendo has best ads.
This game rawks, just got it today. I'm obsessive about getting all the stars and whatnot, it's great.
THE MARIO SUNSHINE AD WAS AWESOME
Title: RE:Kirby: Canvas Curse
Post by: darknight06 on June 18, 2005, 02:38:45 PM
Well, I saw the ad and all I'll say is that the Japanese TV advertisement was much better not to mention more relevant.
Title: RE: Kirby: Canvas Curse
Post by: Bill Aurion on June 18, 2005, 05:42:09 PM
Then you completely don't grasp the idea of advertising...It's not to be relevant, but to catch the consumer's attention...And this definitely does the trick...
Title: RE: Kirby: Canvas Curse
Post by: KnowsNothing on June 18, 2005, 06:18:01 PM
Yeah, you want the veiwer to notice the ad, and then have the ad stick in their mind. That's why so many commercials are stupid and annoying- the people remember the ad and then tell everyone how stupid and annoying it is. There's no such thing as bad plublicity. Nintendo just needs to get the word out, and they've been doing a great job with the DS so far.
Just commenting again on how hot this game is. It took a little while to get used to the controls, so it was a little slow at first, but now the controls feel great even at frantic speeds

There's no such thing as bad plublicity.
Nintendo with their for-kids image that kills their sales begs to differ. Oh, and what about Acclaim? Those guys had some bad publicity. Howard Scott Warshaw and John Romero also had to experience what "bad publicity" means.

Title: RE: Kirby: Canvas Curse
Post by: KnowsNothing on June 19, 2005, 04:12:05 AM
OKAY FINE. I guess I didn't think that one through too much I just meant that if if people don't like Nintendo's ads, they will complain. Whether or not they complain or praise, they're still getting the word about the game, which is why they're advertising in the first place. I know "bad commercials" are a big discussion topic round these parts.
Title: RE: Kirby: Canvas Curse
Post by: KDR_11k on June 19, 2005, 05:44:28 AM
Except most casuals are so unsure of themselves they will declare N as "homosexual" or "for kids" (obviously in a wording PGC newspeak does not permit) after seeing those ads and will insult people who buy Nintendo stuff.
Title: RE: Kirby: Canvas Curse

150 million kids bought a Gameboy.
Title: RE: Kirby: Canvas Curse
Post by: KDR_11k on June 19, 2005, 09:33:48 AM
Many managers bought them too. It probably wasn't because they thought the ads were "funny".
Title: RE: Kirby: Canvas Curse
Post by: KnowsNothing on June 19, 2005, 10:04:04 AM
Besides, the DS is a new system. In my mind it's better to have people think poorly about the DS then to not have them think about it at all. It's better that they know it exists, because then there's a chance they'll buy one. Since the DS is also targetting non-gamers to the max, they won't care if a commercial is tiku! or not, but now they know that it's out there. Especially since the PSP is the DS's competition; a casual gamer is less likely to buy a PSP because of it's price (the fact that it does so many things may actually deter people who become confused easily).
Now, obviously a positive buzz is better than a negative one, but it's still a buzz. These commercials make some people laugh, and others scowl, but either way if they tell their friends they're getting the word out. Personally, I love the "big-suit" commercials, so I'm spreading a positive buzz. You're right about people being weak and insulting people for buying Nintendo stuff, but I don't think that it's really a problem with the DS, it was mainly the GC. I mean, even the pathetic people who did that stuff owned a GBA.
Also, we are very off topic. This game rocks, buy it, you'll love it.

There's a big difference between reputation and publicity.

Instead of trying to be all creative or whatever and make the commercials funny, they should show more gameplay and maybe scores/quotes recieved by game magazines or sites. The bad thing about the Kirby commercial is that the only people who GET the commercial are the ones who already have the game.

Yeah, the PSP has ads for the system itself and how it plays movies and will make your bed, but I also have never seen a game ad...probably because a majority of the games are crap/already have a better version on home consoles.
Title: RE: Kirby: Canvas Curse
Post by: KDR_11k on June 21, 2005, 11:41:28 PM
People buy the PSP for the games? I thought they do it to get portable MP3s and pictures and perhaps emulation once their firmware is cracked?

I do hereby bestow this game with the Hostile Creation Award of Awesomeness. The game is:
A - Beautiful. I love the graphics, they're absolutely gorgeous. I've seen Wind Waker influenced effects here and there, and it's a good addition, but for the most part it has a unique style (that's still true to the Kirby style of past games). B - Long. For me, anyway. I've already beat two areas (only missing two medals), but I'm going to have to go for 100% as per usual and it's going to keep me busy for a very long time. C - Intuitive. The controls are much more natural than I expected them to be, the level design is great, and the new high jump game is a good ending game. D - New. I like the way they're doing the bosses in this game, interesting approach. Not to mention the controls and all, etc. E - Friggin' fun. It's a Kirby game. What can I say? I've always loved Kirby, and HAL has made yet another amazing game.
I think the control scheme might get a little tiresome, since it's rather limited, but that's yet to be seen. It's fun so far.

I think it's rated NS, for no-stevey, because whoever thinks they're funny really is. This stevey character is hilarious! I'm really impressed! I know you're just trying to bother people because you think it's funny, but the only thing your bothering is real comedy. Unless you're serious, in which case I'm guessing this is Steve Gutenburg...you have to be a moron to do that many Police Academy movies.
