Post by: BeyondtheGrave on March 31, 2005, 02:56:44 PM
is there a way to copy a whole memory card to another card or in some backup the files on card in case they become currupted. I have searched a lot to find a way and i don't seem to having any luck with it. Any help would be apperciated.

You can copy each file one-by-one.  I don't think you can do the whole thing at one time.

i'm afraid it isn't that simple the memory card contains animal crossing files as well Pso files.

It doesn't matter which files it contains - it should still work by transferring.

First, make sure that both the memory cards are in. Then switch your Gamecube on without a game disc. On the screen that comes up, move to the "Memory Management" (don't know if that is exact wording) menu, and press A. That will take you to a screen which shows both memory cards, and the files that are in both of them. If you want to transfer one to the other, press A on whatever file you want, then press A on "Copy". This will transfer it to the other memory card. You can do this with all the files, then keep the other memory card so that you still have your files if the other one gets corrupted.

apparently you aren't very familier with 2 games i mentioned. Both will not allow you to copy the files using the normal way copying files.

That's because they are unable to be copied period...

They also can't be "Moved." Why they have to be this protective I don't get. I had to delete my F-Zero save because of this, and I never bothered to continue with the game.

You may be able to copy them to a PC with Action Replay - or at least download a similar save.  I'm not sure if that feature exists on the GC version.

Let's say you've got F-Zero.  Will it let you save if you had the same system file on 2 memory cards, loaded the main save file, and between saving instances (like after races) can you switch the memory cards so that it writes the 'updated' version of the original save onto the new card?  Does the game validate the memory card in some way before saving, or is this just too dangerous althogether?

Pokémon coliseum did that to me too.

I don't get why they DRM away "move" as well, are they afraid of exploits or what?

action replay question:
that feature is will only work with thier usb memory card i can't move the files i want to backup onto other memory cards. BUt if i started on that special card it would work fine

F-zero related question:
no thats not posibble with pso but maybe possible with animal crossing although its unlikly. Pso requires that memory card be in at all times.

I did think that maybe the flash/smart card memory card might work. but that would be the same as the usb card can't move and would have to start again. Then i found out that in order for that card to work even if i did bother to import one that it only works on certain games.

I have found a salution if you like to hear it just let me know. unfortanatly its a very lengthy procedure and requires pso a broadband adapter a router/hub and a certain command line program on your pc. I'm still looking for an easier way to do it.

The reason i want this done is not to copy items are anything like that its just so many people with action reply are on pso these days that playing online is very safe and they can force you to lose items. not to mention the fsod and my biggest fear the fsod -x which completly curupts your character. After putting in hundreds on hours to a lvl 120 char and quite a few more hours obtaining my very own s-rank weapon i would realy hate to lose it all just cause of a game/server error or some jerk with action replay that thinks its fun to do such things to other people.

but if my character does get corrupted i'll buy the usb memory card before i start again.

In AC, you can't save to a card that doesn't contain an existing save file. Biff seems pretty pissed.

I'd like to know this method you're alluring to, BeyondtheGrave. If it can't be posted to the thread, IM me. Thanks.

I've read that you can hexxor a file to remove the 'file protection' flag. But you'd obviously need to have put the file on a USB card to begin with, or you could potentially use BtG's scheme.
