Title: Yoshi Touch and Go
Post by: Caterkiller on March 21, 2005, 05:24:02 PM
Im surprised their isn't more being said about this game around here.  This game is an absalute blast! I havn't had this much fun with a game in a long time. It feels so natural using the touch screen the way you do, and its just down right fun. I havn't gotten into a handheld game like this in long time. This is must own if you have a DS IMO.

Really?  I kind of find the exact opposite.  It seems to me to be just 4 variations of the same level.  Blah.  I hope I'm missing something.

Well, PaleZer0 make sure you try to get farther than 4000 yards/meters on Endless.  You do start coming across new environments after a while.  Score attack and time attack are the same every time though.

This is truely an incredible game...Even me, the biggest Yoshi fan there is, didn't expect it...I'll probably be spending a lot of time trying to beat my high scores (once I can actually break the highest records, that is -_-)

i wish they had all of the games features on top of regular levels.

This is a great game that really shows Nintendo is ahead of the competition in ideas and gameplay, but I wish they would have had these modes as well as an adventure mode. It might have made the game more appealing for a mainstream audience looking for more DS games to buy. Im happy with the purchase though and I hope that Nintendo can expand on something like this.

Just got this game, and man it is a blast.  But it's so hard, the sky levels need crazy planning skills.  Baby Mario isn't willing to go where you want him to sometimes.  The ground sections are easier, but you have to pay attention to so much.  Regardless the game is a lot of fun, and a little more satisfying than WarioWare.  I'm really wowed with the controls, they are really smooth.  The only problamatic thing is the circles, but thats probably just me.  Once I get more accustomed to the controls anf the focus, I'm sure I'll be able to unlock the other two modes.

I may get this game (no money right now) but why didn't Nintendo make it into some sort of adventure game? Everyone seemed to really like the style, but it got mediocre scores because it's an 'arcade game'.

I totally rove this game.  My best score is 439 in Score Attack; all my other scores are mediocre (that one may be too, but I'm purowd of it )

I still can't unlock the level for Score Attack...  Its frustrating the hell out of me.

The multiplayer stage for this game is amazingly fun for being so simple...Spent more than an hour to play 99 rounds...

Bill:I really want to try the multiplayer, but none of my friends have a DS(soon to change thanks to my expert salsemanship).  I have a few question's about it.

Is it really competitive, like can you actions affect your friends?  I know you can make more enemys appear, but what else can you do if anything?
Can you get a different yoshi, or are you stuck with the green one?
Theres only one multiplayer stage correct?
Its fun right?

Couple more comments on the game as well.  It seems that the game gets harder the better you get at it.  At first it seems hard because of the controls, but once you get over that it becomes hard because of the multitasking.  Each play of score attack gets more and more intense because I get more and more aware of how little I have to work with to score.  Also I still have trouble with the dual screens, I find myself paying attention to one and something on the other will pass me by.  I also HATE when Yoshi goes up to the top.  Still the game is a lot of fun, but I really do wish there was a few different levels.  So far I could give it a strong 8 out of 10.

The higher combo you get, the more enemies that appear on your friend's screen (must have at least 3 in the combo)...That's all you can do to affect your friend, but it really works well by itself...

Can you get a different yoshi, or are you stuck with the green one?

Just Green Yoshi...

Theres only one multiplayer stage correct?

Yep...

Its fun right?

I don't think we would have played 99 rounds in a row if it weren't... ^_^

The multiplayer was the biggest surprise here....it made my friend pick up a copy of the game for himself ^_^

The facts about multiplayer:
- it's single cart, and it takes about 20-30 seconds to download
-there's only one stage
-each player has a green yoshi, but the "dowloader" carries Baby Luigi and the "downloadee" carries Baby Mario. The top screen always shows your opponent.
- there are two types of enemies: little green balls of spikes, and big red balls of spikes
-the big red balls appear on your screen based on your opponent's combo.  3 enemies withone egg is the minimum for a combo, and it makes 3 enemies appear on your opponent's screen.  4 enemies = 4 spikes, and so on.
-the race is 1000 meters long, but it's often just a matter of survival
-it keeps a win loss record.  Huzzah!

There's a little more to the multiplayer than that, but if I told you,  you may be able to beat me

When I played my 99 rounds with my friend today, we only finished the race 3 times...

One little trick I discovered is that you can cause enemies to drop the items they're carrying by throwing a bubble at them. It's much easier to hit them that way, but it takes longer. Useful for when you're low on eggs. or if your aim sucks

Bill: How do you know you played 99 games? Does it keep a win/loss record?
Title: RE:Yoshi Touch and Go

Multiplayer is fun....but i think they should have included more levels, more enemies and more options (like if u wanted to go more than 1000 yards, who can collect the most coins, etc...).

I also wanted to know what everyones high score is for marathon. I enjoy that mode the best.

My high score is 7,014 yards for marathon.

My high score is 205 points for score attack.

My high score is 2170 yards for challenge

I haven't played much of score attack or challenge mode yet, but soon will.

Good god, over 7,000? I can't even get to 5,000 on marathon.

Score Attack - 458

Marathon - 5350 (brothers score)

Time Attack -  2:19:7

Challenge - 3805 (brothers score)

I can't get below 4 minutes in Time Attack, any tips for that?

My Score Attack high score is 377, and my Marathon score is 4,000 some.  As for challenge, I haven't even made the board yet.

ah my marathon high is only 6560.  There's supposedly a bronze Yoshi at 10,000 if you can make it.

Robotor, the best tips I can give are to get plenty of points as baby mario to get say like a dark blue or pink yoshi. Constantly guid him on the way down away from the bouncy things, even if it means away from the stars. Just bubble up the stars on the side and then throw them at Mario. I made it to Yoshi in 59 seconds and it was a dark blue Yoshi.

When Yoshi and Mario are together, constantly make Yoshi run on clouds and don't waist eggs on things like that huge swarm of green spiky things at the very beggining where Yoshi runs off of that mountain.

As long as we're giving our high scores, mine are as follows:

Score Attack:  374 points
Marathon:  4047 yards
Time Attack:  2:56.7 minutes
Challenge:  2741 yards

By the way, what does the Pic next to the rankings do, if anything?  I've just been putting a picture of what killed me (if I got hit) or just a random picture (if I won).

I use the blooper, 8-bit or render, it doesn't matter.  I wish there was some sort of duck.

I finally cleared 400 in score attack, my new score is 411.  I so proud of it, those Lakitus really help.  I also got under three minutes in Time attack with a score of 2:59:6, really intense moment.  With that I got the baloon popping game and achieved a score of 111, does anybody know what makes you lose in that?

Score Attack- 396
Marathon-     4325

Post by: Robotor on March 30, 2005, 05:27:04 PM
I got a score of 450 in score attack.  I figured that most of the points are made in the air stage.  The better you do then the better you can do on the ground.  I'm just so bad at the air part.
Title: RE: Yoshi Touch and Go
Post by: KnowsNothing on April 16, 2005, 11:12:11 AM
New scores!

Yeah, the air stage is the key in Score Attack.  I got 171 in just the air stage, so when I got to the ground part I could hold 60 eggs and there were ALOT more enemies.  The only drawback is that the more eggs you can hold, the faster Yoshi runs......It took me like 5 tries just to reach the end.....

Score Attack - 497 (so close to 500 ;___;)
Marathon - 6716

I don't really play the other modes.... I did break 4:00 in Time Attack, but that's not really saying a whole lot

Well, my high scores are nowhere near any of yours (302 in Score Attack (which I did only using eggs to attack enemies, not thinking of doing bubbles on the ground ), 4,306 in Marathon, 3:54:2 in Time Attack, and a measely 1731 in Challenge), but I just got the game yesterday evening, so give me time
This game is wicked fun, I must say.  I'm usually not big on High Score games, but it's such a fast-paced, ingenius, fun game I can't help but like it.  It's amazing how quickly you adapt to it (at first, I couldn't hit anything on the top screen with my eggs but now I'm ace).  I love it.  I'm playing it so much my computer monitor seems to scroll, it's insane.

I'm using the bullet shy guy as my score picture.  I think the picture instead of initials is a really cool idea.
Edit: Okay, change that 302 to 366
Edit: Okay, change that 366 to 394

I still cant decide whether i like this game or not. When I go to play it i get pretty bored quick (short attention span!) then i put it down and get the urge to play again...Vicious cycle!

I wrote a shortish review on my site
http://www.hm-fusion.co.uk/fullfeature.php?subaction=showfull&id=1113293985&archive=&ucat=24

A the end of the day I just feel a bit empty about the experience, it's too much like a glorified mini-game.

Great graphics and music tho!

They're that hard?  I beat them the first couple days I had it, and it only took me that long because it's one of the first games my girlfriend has ever actually played (I bought it for her more than me (I SWEAR!))

Anyway this is I think the best game on DS right now, if you ask me, because it's just so hard to put down and go to sleep when I'm playing it.

Also the levels are not the same; they change every time you go through it, just with general similarities, even in Score Attack,

EDIT: Hey can we get a page on the main site that lets us post our high scores?  Or maybe I'll make one...yeah tomorrow morning I'll make one but maybe we should say you have to include a digital picture of it...hmm...though I don't have a digi camera readily available...I just don't want cheaters!  and no pro action replay

Has anyone else gotten the White Yoshi?

I got home late from work a few nights ago and my brother wakes up and goes "Matt I got a white Yoshi in Yoshi touch and go." I told him he was dreaming and to go back to sleep. That next morning he turned on the game and under Marathon was a 4th place White Yoshi. I was told it goes pretty fast and has unlimited eggs but I can't seem to get it myself(but I really didn't try much). Maybe its already known at gamefaqs or something, but I sure didn't know about it. He told me that you have to kill every enemy on screen befor you pass on Mario to the next Yoshi, no matter what color you have.
Title: RE: Yoshi Touch and Go
Post by: Mario on August 13, 2005, 10:35:08 PM
I got a light blue Yoshi in Marathon once. I crossed the line to the next 1000 yard mark while I was invincible, then I hopped onto a light blue Yoshi and had unlimited eggs. I didn't notice at first though, it says 50/50, but when you fire eggs it just stays like that. I died before finding out if I would still have it for the next 1000 yards. However sometimes i've been invincible while crossing the line and didn't get the special Yoshi, i'm not sure what you need to do to get it. Maybe 3 stars in 1000 yards?
Title: RE: Yoshi Touch and Go
Post by: vudu on August 15, 2005, 09:21:05 AM
3 stars in 1000 yards seems like a pretty difficult feat to accomplish.

Gamefaqs.com lists the requirement to get Light Blue Yoshi as "Get 0 points in time attack", but that doesn't match up with what Mario said.  The reqirement to get White Yoshi is simply listed as "Performance Related".

Bronze Yoshi is gotten by 10,000 meters in Marathon mode.  Also, there's apparently a Purple Yoshi to be had if you somehow manage to go 20,000 meters in Marathon mode.  Good luck confirming that one.

Sometimes when I get over 170 in the falling part I get a black yoshi will 64/64 eggs anyone know why?
Title: RE: Yoshi Touch and Go
Post by: vudu on August 15, 2005, 12:41:59 PM
According to GameFAQs you get a Black Yoshi w/ 50 eggs for getting 160 points in the flying level plus 1 additional egg for each point over 160.  Thus, you must have scored 174 points to get a Black Yoshi with 64 eggs.

Hey guys, sorry for bringing up this old thread, but my neightbor insisted:

Marathon: 10557
Score Attack: 523
Challenge: 4272

Is anyone else close to this INSANE numbers? Where do I check the world records? This kid is amazing.

My Score Attack is higher than that - 563

My Marathon score is only 8759 yards... i'll have to work on that.

Challenge mode I haven't got into, in fact i've only done it twice, my score being 3516 yards.

I can see someone beating those Marathon numbers...I've done 8000+ yards (don't remember the exact number) and I"m sure I could improve.  Still seems like decent scores.

You call that a score? Try this for Marathon... 12638 yds!  Not too much higher, but yeah its the top so far.
