Title: Best Title Ever
Post by: IceCold on March 17, 2005, 07:56:48 PM
I just thought of making a thread of the best/most clever/wittiest title that any video game has had. There are many but I'll just mention two of my favorite ones

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

For those of you who don't know (don't worry - I didn't at first either), a requiem is a song that is sung at someone's funeral. So, in this game, literally it means a song sung because sanity is dead. Figuratively, it symbolizes the end of someone's sanity. This really ties in to the game because it actually is about being insane etc  - those who have played it will know. Anyway, it is extremely clever, and I wonder how long it took to think of it lol.

The Legend of Zelda: A  LINK to the Past

I love this title lol. It may be a simple pun but w/e

MADE IN WARIO

The broken English and tremendous Wario-egotism to make this title a winner.

Grim Fandango.

A fandango is a spanish/mexican dance, I think. Which means the title alludes to the grim dance of death, with mexican overtones... it fits the game so well and yet you have to wonder how they came up with a title that awesome.

And Sanity's Requiem as well.

Hell yes.

I almost cried when I heard it would be called Wario Ware here.

Paladin: They watched the mexican dance of the death, one dev remarked how the paper bag masks they used ( ) reminded him of textured polygons and Grim Fandango was born.

My favorite title also goes to my favorite game period, Link's Awakening...I love how I was confused by the name of the game until near the end...

Viewtiful Joe, simply because the EB dude kept thinking I was asking for Beautiful Joe and telling me it wasn't in the database so it'd probably been cancelled.

while this certainly isn't the best, Far Cry is a pretty good title. Unlike most games where the title is extemely generic, formulaic, and boring (Dark Forces 3: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast?), the title is actually pretty clever, describes the game well, sounds cool, and it's not so obvious (like being named after the main character or object or something) and most people have no idea what it means.

For me the game that has provided me with the most over all entertainment (I know I checked all of my games) is the now cast down Pokemon blue. Over 110hours of pure enjoyment. Mind you I am easily interested hey look a bug... two hours later sorry but that was one interesting bug. However if you want a more recent game it is Zelda the winjd waker.K not ve"ry long but ultra fun. It is closely followed by Zelda Ocirina of time. Hey another bug, bye guys...

This thread isn't about the best game, it's about the best game title.

good titles have an adjective infront of a noun

Final Fantasy, because there was never thought to be a second one after it.  And I just like how it sounds.

The best title ever is the Japanese title for F-Zero: Maximum Velocity.

F-Zero for Gameboy Advance.

Pretty straightforward huh?  It just says "this is a product and thus we're not even going to pretend to make up a real name."  It's the game equivalent of "The Beatles' Second Album".

Ah, but it can't beat the well thought out titles like Wave Race 64, Pilotwings 64 or Star Fox .... 64.

"Is this the 64th game in the series?"
"No "
"Um"

Stay tuned for Super Mario Revolution, Wave Race Revolution and Star Fox Revolution!

I like wacky Japanese names the best or plain old stupid ones.
Right not I'ld say Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance is tied with Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse for best name of uncoming game.

There's this terrible NES game called "Booby Kids" I rember seeing it when I was 12, during my crazy emulation years.  I thought "OH SNAP!, a game with boobs."  The title screen showed a young lad smiling, so I figured base gameplay would be peeping on girls taking showers or something.  I was really confused when I saw the first level.  It was set in jurrasic times, and there was a bunch of dinosaurs.  My 12 year old mind instantly thought "cavegirls", but upon pressing "b" I saw that I could lay traps.  It turns out that the "booby" does not refer to female anatomy, but to booby traps.

Instead of naming the game "Booby Trap Kids", or "Trap Kids", or even "Kid who makes holes for dinosaurs to fall in", they went with the misleading title of "Booby Kids."  If that's not the most misleading title ever I don't know what is, it's also one of the funniest because of the fact that it tricked me.
