Title: Timesplitters Ships in the Near Future (Perfect)
Post by: Jonnyboy117 on March 17, 2005, 10:52:41 AM
Yep, the third game in Free Radical's marquee series has gone gold.

The GameCube isn't known for its wide selection of first-person shooters, but many Nintendo fans cherish their copies of Timesplitters 2, developed at Free Radical by some of the chaps who worked on Rare's legendary Goldeneye 007.

EA dropped us a line today to say that the third game in the Timesplitters series, Future Perfect, has gone gold and will be shipping on March 22nd.  Here's a handy list of features according to EA:

• A deep story mode taking players from a 1914 Scottish castle to the frontlines of a robot war in 2243
• Innovative “meet and assist yourself” gameplay – where you team up with past, present and future versions of yourself for the ultimate in teamwork
• Online multiplayer action for up to 16 gamers on Xbox Live and 8-player action for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, in 11 unique online game modes, including Deathmatch, Shrink, Thief, Capture the Bag, Virus, Vampire and more
• Co-op mode allowing gamers to play through the entire single-player game with a friend • Deep Arcade and Challenge modes offering dozens of mini-games and offline multiplayer action
• More than 150 playable characters, from robotic super soldiers and Cold War commandos to zombie nurses and pistol-packing monkeys
• Easy-to-use Mapmaker tool allowing players to create their own single and multiplayer levels and share them online for endless replay value
• More than 40 era-specific weapons and vehicles – from time disruption grenades and giant mechs to flare guns and machine-gun mounted trucks

What difference does it make what the Cube version is missing?  We're all not buying it as part of an EA b0ycott, right?

Technically they don't say "the Cube doesn't have this" and the press release should be accurate.  To be fair the PS2 gets kind of bashed too since it has only 8 player support instead of the Xbox's 16.

Edit:  B-o-y-c-o-t-t is a banned word?  LAME.

I will buy all TimeSplitters!  (Which means I won't, yay!)

This is troublesome with so many good games I want to buy...I must find a way to gain funds or I'll be behind...

Yay! If the GC version was being released in Australia, i'd buy it, but it's not, so I won't! Take THAT! I can't buy your games if you don't sell them to me, EA

It's not banned, just filtered for comedy's sake.  You can always get around it.  And we did that a while ago.

What does it mean that a game goes gold? I would think its the same as the music industry, but the game isnt out yet, unless they are counting preorders?
Thanks

Gold in this case means they've completed the game and it's ready to ship to retailers. Has nothing to do with how many units sold.

Gold means the game is now finished and the gold master (term coming from back when CDRs were actually golden) has been made and is sent to the publisher for replication. Now they're building up a stock to ship to retailers.
