Yeah, the DS launch was huge here. I'd say the sales were so good because it was the first ever hardware launch with an excellent price. I mean, you have to be a chimp to have bought a $750 PS2 or $850 xb at launch, but a DS for $190? Based on current exchange rates we had the cheapest DS in the world.

Here in Europe everyone's gearing up for the DS as well, some retailers already have demo units and even Karstadt (large store that sells pretty much everything, now that they're in financial trouble they've got really good prices) is taking preorders!

Wow!  I'm under the impression that Australia is historically Nintendo's weakest territory, so this is good news.  Congratulations, DS.

The american ads went pretty far, being advertised during simpsons and other channel 10 shows.
Im not aware if it was advertised during cheez tv or foxtel, due to not watching them in a while.
I got to Kmart Munno para at 10:10 on the release morning, to my surpise no Mario 64x4 were left, after checking the layout I was suprised to see they could of only had 8 on display, I went to the counter and told that the flood stock is all there stock....eh 8 copys?
After standing there for 20mins mins, I thought what the heck, I toke sprung (42bucks), Nintendo DS and airfoam case (194bucks)
I have noticed other stores have got heaps of stock, so I dont really know if the sales were huge

Strange that such a huge success for Nintendo goes by completely unnoticed by IGN's DS section...
