Title: Smash Bros., Mario Kart?
Post by: PaLaDiN on February 25, 2005, 03:04:42 PM
Go to IGN right now and read Reggie's words. Humble yourselves before the might of Reggie, for it is awesome and full of glory.
One line in particular stands out: "As you know, we also have had several award-winning top-selling games and several more, including Zelda, Smash Bros., and Mario Kart are yet to come."
I'm thinking this has to be a mistake. The ramifications are just too good to be true. IGN must have arranged the sentence wrongly...
But then why does the article's picture include Mario Kart, the Master Sword and SSBM characters? And why does it say "Readers don't want to miss this one"?
I just wet my pants.
Don't anybody come in here and ruin this for me. Let me dream for once.

Maybe its a mistake, maybe hes talking about Mario kart arcade? or who knows! Certainly interesting.....
Also important to note his comments on colors... i think this means the Revolution will launch only either Black, or Silver... Silver is my guess, the DS is Silver and the GCN Silver is very popular

I thought about arcade and DS, but the question and article are about the Gamecube. This is GC stuff.
Mario Kart arcade is probably coming to GC then.

Ugh, I REALLY don't want another Smash Brothers for the Gamecube...PLEASE save it for the Revolution, Ninty...PLEASE!

Holy crap! Bill and I have the same opinion regarding an unwarrented sequel. SSBM just nailed it so perfectly that I really don't think there's anything more they could do with SSB on the Cube. Hell I can't think of much they can do with it period even with new hardware. SSBM is an absolutely perfect sequel.
But that's not what's coming here. Read the quote in context. "As you know, we also have had several award-winning top-selling games, including Zelda, Smash Bros., and Mario Kart, and several more are yet to come." That comma after Mario Kart is key. He's mentioning classic games already released plus unnamed games not yet released. They're asking him what Nintendo did right with the Cube and games like Zelda, Smash Bros and Mario Kart and part of what they did right. Either you misread it or it was a typo that IGN fixed.
Edit: IGN is acknowledging the error. It was a goof up.

Phew, I feel better now...SSB3 really is the killer app for the Revolution, and I just can't see Ninty releasing it for the Gamecube...And Ian, people are always saying new things can't be come up with, yet they always are...Sakurai (Melee's director) said himself that there was a lot he had wished to put into Melee but just plain ran out of time to implement...So no worries there...

I just want more stuff... More characters, more stages, and more of those Gara Gatcha Toys!

I'm fairly certain SSMB will appear on the DS, then the REV, but not the GC. And that's fine.

Yes, let's all laugh at PaLaDiN as his dreams are crushed.
You know, I knew before I started in this thread that Ian would kill it.
How do you lock threads? This is useless now.

Why? Just because there isnt another Mario Kart in development doesnt make what Reggie said any less important.

I guess we could talk about the console color...
Seems it won't be purple this time. Don't see why that's such a big deal... I think some people are seriously underestimating the intelligence of the common man.

Post by: Bill Aurion on February 26, 2005, 08:03:21 AM
I think it's more along the lines of "people way too worried about their sexuality" UH OH IT IS PURPLE IF I GET PURPLE I'LL BE CONSIDER YOU KNOW WHAT!
Now that's out of the way, I'd like to see multiple colors at launch again...Perhaps Black, N64 grey, and white?

I don't really care about colors... I just want fun LEDs.

We could talk about new franchises again.

Yes, new franchises would be good. I want more stuff like Pikmin...
You know Geist could be awesome with the right amount of polish. Too bad it looks like it won't be getting that.

You don't know that...There haven't been any new screens in a year...You think n-Space has been sitting around twiddling their thumbs all this time? I THINK NOT!

Its not just the color.... (If Silver is available at launch ill gladly pick that though) but i think the whole shape of the console will get a makeover..
Not that a cube is really that uggly, I just think the next console might be more streamlined... thiner, if it lights up that would look cool too. Ive never seen an actual Panasonic Q system but from the pics it looked cool. Oh and i dont think it will have a handle
Title: RE: Reggie Speaks
Post by: Pale on February 26, 2005, 10:17:47 AM
I love my panasonic Q. The only downside is that the fancy blue LEDs are blocked by the wavebird receivers. I want the new console to have built in wireless controller receivers with LEDs to represent when they are receiving data (like the current wavebird) as well as a general cool looking Power On LED system. If a controller is powered on, LED ring turns on, and if the controller is sending data, a central LED blinks.
Heh I know this is all stupid non game related stuff, but I think it would be cool.

I think people want it to look like more than just a game machine. Just something that screams future technology as well as classy. For me, it should have a glossy black top with a silver lining going across the side, then the REVOLUTION in big engraved letters (maybe silver also). Also, it should be like the playstation and be able to sit on it's side (it's so damn useful when reconfiguring your elec. setup). Nintendo should acknowledge that coolness factor, since people do have friends and friends do have money.
AFTER SCHOOL Friend A "So what's going on?" Friend B "Nothing, chillen" A "What you gonna do today?" B "Don't know really; got to be home by 6 though for dinner with the fam." A "Cool, you want to play my new Nintendo...it's pretty dope looking, I haven't been able to play it though." B "Sure" ...... A "There it is, let me hook it up." B "That is pretty slick looking, if it plays well I might just pick one up for myself."
At least that's how it would be with my friends. Playing at your friends house is one of the ways for best advertising.
EDIT: oh ya Paladin, sorry man but hahahaha that's pretty funny stuff.....thanks IGN, good reporting skills.

I dont like the idea of a Black Console, just because the Xbox, and the PS2 are black. I think going with a different color is a way to set yourself apart from the other two. Thats why i picked the Purple at launch... though i almost sold my Purple GCN once the Silvers were launched just because the Silver Color is so darn nice

I like my purple cube. :-/ Made it stand out. I liked the handle too... was actually a useful feature. Guess I guess looks count for more than utility.

Nintendo should take some idea's from the Panasonic Q (shiny metallic paint, mirrored surface, and all those LED's and lights...) I would like: Silver Revolution with icy blue lights Black Revolution with red lights
And maybe later to boost sales, some sort of Apple like pure white revolution, or maybe a reflective chrome revolution (like the back of an iPod).
Personally, in my opinion the Dreamcast had the best console design ever. Small and attractive. That's what the Gamecube should have looked like...

I say hot neon pink with flowers and bumble bees. No joke, it's like spitting in the faces of everyone that calls them tiku tiku tiku! (much like the alternate Gamecube opening sound effect).

They might as well chrome it out, drop the handle and put some spinners on it lol. Make it a little low rider lol. That'll turn heads .

They should make two versions, one of them HC's hot pink creation and the other one in the shape of a blow-up doll.
That way they cover both markets, adults trying to find their inner child and kids trying to act grownup.

Damn skippy. The Revolution had better conform when it comes to color. It's time for Nintendo to get real and start making their machines more immature asthetically. Make it SHINY and cool looking. When it comes to innovation save it for the hardware my beloved company.

I think I'm with Hostile on this one.
The Revolution is either going to be a smash hit or a dud. So this is the absolute perfect time to deliver an "up yours" to the industry.
Just making the console purple isn't going to cut it. That's too subtle. Nobody would get the point. Pink. With flowers and rainbows. Yes, that would be so bad. It's like... how Shiggy made Yoshi's Island all funky when they told him to match the graphics of Donkey Kong Country. Every now and then, you have to show everyone who's really running the show.
Both Iwata and Reggie have a need for this evil plan. Iwata because he's new and many people seem to think that he's weak (especially when compared to Yamauchi). And Reggie because his sudden reputation for power is very large and needs mighty food to thrive (live consoles will suffice). If Reggie "introduces" this evil plan to Iwata (as only Reggie can), who then launches it on a worldwide level, that would be sufficent for both of them.
I am 100% serious here (well, perhaps 95% serious, I added some humor). Make it happen Nintendo. Or are you afraid of the consequences of such an action?
(Does anyone know if NOA officials still lurk here?)

Whoa I can see it now. Noone by a Revolution, it tried to come on to me. HAHAH NINTENODFIOG GAYSIOHGSO>@!?
I honestly think that if Nintendo made the gamecube black or silver from the start...it would of been a bigger success than it was (as in making more money). The gamecube is a great system; to look at, and to carry. It's too bad though, who the hell made that "go purple" call anyways?
I think now they should conform to make it stylish and attractive, but add something Nintendoish...like led's the color of blacklights (that's purple, but cool at the same time). I wouldn't care if it looked like the cube, as long as it had a slide out cd player, or better yet a hole where you place the cd in like car cd players. Also if it had the REVOLUTION name printed somewhere very visible (like the side or top) then had a black light oming out the slits around the letters. That would be awesome. So if you played in the dark, you couldn't see the actually letters, but you could still read that it says revolution. Little things like that would be great.

They should make the console look like a big tit, the power button being the nipple, that would definetely sell to alot. It could also have different colors.

Heh heh. I'm actually surprised Nintendo never released any more colours of the GameCube (at least in North America). I mean, the machine was practically designed to come in multiple colours and look cute, it's kind of a waste.
The design of the next system doesn't really matter, it's the games that are important. Therefore, Nintendo should just go with something conservative and "cool" to appease casual consumers. It's not like any of us will say no to it based on how it looks, so why let the system design get in the way of selling to people who really do care about something so shallow? Yes to multiple colours, but choose black or silver or grey for the "selling" colour.

In the Superficial society of today, it does make a difference in consumer behaviour, im sure. But I guess a solid cool enough design should do.
I agree that whats most important is the games delivered with the release. It has to be some killer aps, something intruiging that gets great reviews, and looks good on commercials. It only needs 2 good games to start with really, last console generation both Xbox and GCN only had one good starter (Halo and SSBM).

WAVERACE, and Star wars Rogue Squadron II, where one of my favorite games to play in those Nintendo Clubs they had before the Game cubes Launch. I for one thought the Gamecube had the best Launch titles.
