Title: Allow me to take a dookie on your every ambition for the Revolution, IGN, and a touchscreen
Post by: nemo_83 on February 23, 2005, 04:59:35 PM
So, like, check out the mailbag. http://cube.ign.com/mail/
today is Feb 23. Matt says some peeps at EA have recieved dev kits and the system features a big touch screen. Matt even threw in an image.
Makes you want to curse, I hope it isn't true.
seventy seven thumbs down.

The controler has a touch screen...
well i wouldnt mind it if its in the midle... similar to VMUs from the Dreamcast... but if theres NO buttons at all just a giant touch screen next to an analog stick...
well thats going to be pretty weird to say the least...

He was commenting on a rumor... That can't be it because the price on a controller with a 17 inch LCD touchscreen would be RIDICULOUS.

Oh God.
The hypersensitivity begins.

I am hoping he was joking, but I don't find it funny that he would take advantage of his place as a trustworthy journalist just to get a laugh. He invoked a developer as a source in his response. He basically said this is fact by saying that someone with a kit revealed to him what the revolution was.
If his picture of the Revolution is accurate then the picture following it is dead on.

He was making fun of the person who wrote the letter for asking such an obviously stupid question...Nintendo confirmed long ago that the Revolution would not utilize dual screens, end of discussion...

didn't they say the Revolution wouldn't have two screens? they didn't say it wouldn't have one. damn nintendo and their tricky wording. some rumors about the NextBox are that it will have a VMU touchscreen device that is removable.

havent heard that one, i did hear that the Xbox 360 Hard Drive would be removable, and allow you to take your songs with you ala iPod which is an interesting idea.

The VMU would make sense though, since the XBOX controller is such a blatant copy of the dreamcast's controller. Yeah, Matt was obviously joking and if nemo you had reread what he said you would know that even if you missed the 'teh's.

What's that whole thing supposed to be? His application to Something Awful? Either way, I like his explaination of the Cell though he should've used a screengrab from Terminator 2 or 3's nuke sequences instead since that's much more fitting with SkyNet and all.

"For now, take everything you hear with an enormous grain of salt."
He made it plain as day that they were nothing but rumors.
EDIT: bleh, I didn't do as good of a job at reading this thread as I thought

I'd give up rumble for wireless- if I had to chose. Need a way to recharge the controller though. Could the console do this? by wire or by simply resting the controller on a charger? I really like the wire/less option that charged while you played. But if rechargable batteries were good enough, we wouldn't have to worry about that.
Looking back at things, Nintendo has always pushed the envelope. Their first console came with the gun (duckhunt). It was cool to shoot the TV ducks- then the power glove- then there was that running mat- and virtual boy. I'm not saying these were great ideas- some (most) of them sucked, but they pushed the envelope, and the analog stick rules! They keep thinking outside the BOX so to speak.
