Rayman gets a simultaneous release on DS and GBA.

UBISOFT ANNOUNCES RAYMAN® TITLES FOR NINTENDO HANDHELD SYSTEMS

Rayman® DS for Nintendo DS™ and Rayman®: Hoodlums’ Revenge for Game Boy® Advance to Launch Simultaneously

SAN FRANCISCO — February 8, 2005 — Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest videogame publishers, today announced that not just one but two Rayman® titles will launch simultaneously in March 2005: Rayman® DS and Rayman®: Hoodlums’ Revenge for Game Boy Advance.  Rayman DS will be available at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $29.99 and Rayman: Hoodlums’ Revenge will be available for $29.99 and both titles are rated “E” for Everyone.

“Rayman is a beloved character and we think it’s great that fans will have two unique Rayman titles to choose from at the same time,” said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing, Ubisoft. “Rayman has been successful on Nintendo handheld systems with Rayman Advance among the top-ten selling titles for Game Boy Advance in 2001.  We’re excited to support both Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance with our latest installments of the Rayman franchise.”

Rayman, one of the most recognizable videogame characters around the world, arrives for the first time in full 3D glory on a handheld in Rayman DS as he battles to defeat the pirate terror that has enslaved his world.   Rayman: Hoodlums’ Revenge, an all-new adventure, comes to the Game Boy® Advance as the direct sequel to Rayman 3 where players can play as Globox or Rayman for the first time.

According to PGC's front page Rayman DS is a port of the N64 game Rayman 2.

Thanks a lot Nintendo.  You launched the DS with a damn port and have thus set the example for all other publishers to treat the DS as port machine just like that piece of crap Super Mario Advance set the example of the GBA being a port machine.

I already played Rayman DS in a dream so I don't need to play it AGAIN Nintendo, geez.

Rayman 2 is the best Rayman game, so I hope it is indeed a port of that, and hopefully with lots of extras, but since I don't really know what it is yet i'll wait and see! Plus, more games is better, I doubt they could have make an entirely new Rayman game so quickly.

I wonder if they're going to include all the voice work from the PSone version of Rayman 2, or just leave it as the plain ol' N64 text based thingy. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I 'spose.

Yeah, nintendo kind of set the bar with that. Hopefully Rayman will use the analog touch screen idea a lot better. I hope it's set in place instead of it moving around every time. I've never played a Rayman game, but I still wish they would've released something new. Or it better be improved a lot.

When the first screens came out for Rayman DS I knew it was a port, so by now I've come to accept it.  I'd rather a Rayman game, but Rayman 2 was great and I never got around to finishing it.  March is a pretty big month (well, late February-March)

I enjoyed Rayman 2 a lot, but I thought the controls were sketchy enough with an anolouge stick. Poorly implemented touch-control would really kill the game for me.

Not unless they let you play the game with the control pad, in which case wouldn't even make much of a difference to me anyway given how the game controlled anyway.

But now, why are we blaming Nintendo for this game?  Who didn't know this was a port long time ago?  They were probably going to do this even if SM64DS wasn't announced, and why not?  It gives Ubisoft a good chance to see where they can do with the DS technically, it won't be as expensive as a full on endeavor, and it will probably sell good enough for them to justify making a new Rayman on the system.  Besides, like SM64DS, I haven't played it in a while and I wanna see it again.

I played Rayman 2 on the PC using a keyboard. The controls work well enough digital.
