Title: Can't make an NFL game? Try this, Nintendo

A football game in which you get to create your team from scratch, and battle it out with other teams online. Call it the PFL, or Power Football League. As in, you're playing with power.
- you design your logo - you name your team - create your full roster using "attribute points" - make your quarterback really good at the expense of having a crappy defensive line, etc. - create or join leagues (all leagues would use the same NFL-style rules) - as your team gets wins, you get attribute points to make your team better - each league could have a seasonal draft composed of randomly-generated players - some "years" would have a lot of good QBs, some years would be heavy on tight ends, etc. - winners of leagues could move on to regional, national, and then world championships (to keep things even, opponents would have to have played the same number of seasons, and therefore have had the same opportunities to draft players and build their team) - players would get injured randomly, just like real-life
I think this would be incredibly cool, and a development team like Visual Concepts could pull it off. I think of how fun it is to do fantasy leagues on Yahoo, and play any game in which you can create characters, and this would be a blast. The possibilities would be endless, and it would really be a mainstream product.
And you wouldn't need an NFL License to do it.
BTW - Bloodworth moved this from Talkback because I'm a moron. Hostile Creation mentioned Eyeshield 21, which may be interesting.

No, that was me...I'm not giving Hostile any of my credit...
Though I wonder if Eyeshield 21 will be purely football or if there will be story elements as well...

Well, it's a shame that the replies didn't get copied over with the thread... Anywhoo..
I suggested in the other thread including an Offical version of the USB memory card that would allow users to upload their custom players/teams to the Internet so they could exchange their creations with other people easily...
It would also allow someone to recreate their favorite NFL team without having to actually have the NFL lisence... meaning one could, in theory, download the entire NFL for their game without the developers having to pay for the NFL lisence (that, now, they couldn't get if they wanted...)
Just a thought...

I think that's a great idea. I've always loved fully customizable sports games. I don't really follow the mainstream sports that much, so I have no idea which teams are good, or which teams have good offense/defense/whatever. So when I find a sports game where I can fully customize players' attributes (or even a mini-game like Blitzball in FFX), I really enjoy playing that.
And I'd still like to see a realistic, fully customizable tennis sim. But that's another topic for another day.

lol that's a mere feature in a real football game..turned into a game. Whoo... doubt anyone will buy it.

I think people would be interested in it. Once you got over the setup and learning curve it'd be crazy fun. It would have a real "homebrew" kind of feel to it, and you could keep it going indefinitely.

Or how about playing real sports? In real sports you can move however you like, and gain more attributes simply by practicing.

Yes but that's not profitable.

Ok I also should've said that Silks' idea is actually excellent. I think me and Mario were having an excited disscussion over something similar over MSN and basically we (or mostly I) feel as though online gaming has real potential to reach the masses and work well when adopted to sports games. Soon we'll relise to stop wanting to be some overpaid sports star in our games and create our own players who can compete in tournaments and the like.

Playing real sports vs. playing videogame sports is another thread entirely ;-D

Quote I do...
And I'm sure that the actual PRO athletes who play all sports games religiously do as well.
By the way, you can play madden and customize the entire league, rosters included. You can also enable any cheats you like to make the game crazy , such as fumbilitis or bombs away...so yeah, it's been done. The whole online element would be great though.
If Nintemndo were smart, they would just make an old school Tecmo Super Bowl clone(arcade graphics though), and incorporate the customization.

i think this is better suited for a pro wrestling game, where we could have leagues with small time gigs, big time weekly shows (tuesday night Crackdown), and then the massive pay-per views... oooh the list of all the possibilities is extensive

it is a pitty that the NFL now belong to EA. we will never get a football game that controls well. Madden still controls as stiff as if it were running on the SNES even though it is on three systems with dual analog sticks. Nintendo could be the only company with the ability to create a football game with accessable controls, straight forward controls that don't use eight buttons to do things like juking. the only way to compete with EA's football is to offer a game with supperior controls. for example, why do you still have to hold down a button to run fast, is this the NES still? these are just a few reasons out of hundreds that i hate EA games.

Yeah, considering that all you need to do is press L OR R to juke. And as for holding the button to run fast, doesn't that make more sense than holding it to run slow? I think it does.
Listen, I hate it just as much as the next person that EA bought the NFL licenses for the next few years, but give them some credit at least.
