Title: Cheap GC-games in thailand?
Post by: Sqwarts on November 29, 2004, 06:52:59 PM
I'm currently on vacation in thailand and I thought I would take the opportunity to buy some new games for my GC. My problem is that I can't find any.

Any tips where to buy the cheap GC-games?
PAL, NTSC, Copied, anything goes.

Dude what are you on..? I dunno what you speak of when you say "copied" let alone anything goes. This is gamecube we're talking about, no such thing as copies exist for various reasons.

You are more than free to talk about anything else related to GC, but piracy is a no no.

What I'm on? Air, probably... And yes there are copies. I could probably have done them myself had I only had some discs in the GC format. And is it forbidden to ask for copies in Thailand? The land of copies? Hmm maybe I'm gonna go to the market right away and by me a brand new ORIGINAL rolex for a few hundred bucks...

"I could probably have done them myself had I only had some discs in the GC format."

Dream on.

"My problem is that I can't find any [games]."

When the media is difficult to pirate (not practical to pirate at all) the system won't be popular there (nothing "cheap" to play; system not worth having; no one interested), I assume.  I can see why you can't find anything significant at all in the land of copies.

I would lock this topic except that the illegal goods he's asking about don't even exist.

lol so true, kinda idiotic to ask for something that's not feasible, I wonder if her even knows of the security feature that the GC has?  A laser that reads backwards from a normal dvd player, let alone the encrytption on the optic mini-dvd.

heh

sad thread.

If in thailand, go get cheap hookers, cheap clothing and get drunk, forget about GCN, get a life.
Thinking of Nintendo on a Thailand vacation, thats WEAK

Yeah! Getting STD's, knock-off brand clothing made by four year olds that'll fall to bits in a gust of wind and waking up somewhere where you don't know where you are without a kidney is the life!

Really? Aren't the "brand wear" things sold here just taiwanese wares with different names printed on them?

Taiwan, Camboida, Thailand, Vietnam but mostly China, most of the textile fabrications are from China.

But the stuff they sell on the street markets are just fakes, although the real factory are nearby. Try to find a factory maybe you can buy stuff directly. Unless you get shot on the way or tempted to spend your 5dollars on a hooker instead of a pair of sneakers

Well, not sure if Sqwarts will reply, but for anyone else, was the Gamecube released in Thailand?
My brother comes through there every so often due to work and I wouldn't mind getting some games there.
(Legitamet retail games, which should be cheaper than locally if legitamet retail DVD movies are anything to go by)

I just don't wanto send him on a wild goose hunt. Thanks

Hmm. You sound awfully sure about that. That can either be a good thing or a bad thing. I'll just assume it's a good thing for now.

Actually if your in Thailand then you can get GCN games! Get a car and just keep driving south. Eventually you'll cross a HUGE bridge and you'll be in Singapore, they'll screen you for STDs as you cross the border if you say you came from Thailand so say you've come from Malaysia. Goto Sim Lim square and you can get any GCN game you want, full price!

But then you aren't getting them from Thailand now are you. Your getting them from Singapore. With that logic you can find Emporer Penguins living naturally in the Sahara Desert. Just keep flying south into Antarctica and pow!

But yeah, people go to Thailand for spicy food, fake clothes, and hookers.

I think thats the reason why people go to 3rd World countries at all, except Muslim countries, if you hook up with a local chick there, expect to be killed and the wrath of Allah

Wow what a dumb comment.

Saudi Arabia is not all Muslim countries. Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Indonesia are all Muslim countries, in fact they are the three biggest Muslim countries and all are in the 10 ten most populous countries. Pakistan and Bangladesh are pretty much exactly like India except people eat cows instead of worship them, and Indonesia is a like 10 different countries but they are no different from non Muslim countries. I'm not sure you understand much about Islam (you are thinking of the Iranian dominant Shi'ite branch of extremists, which make up like 5% of Muslims, as opposed to the Sunni branch which is over 90% of Muslims and yes, it's stupid just like every other religion but it's no more ludicrous and laughable than Judaism or....Christianity lol...what a joke...but I digress).

Oh, and I can see that you were clearly making a joke, but I just felt like babbling anyway.

Oh believe me gamefreak, I do understand alot about Islam, unlike the American Government. Well, atleast you understood I was making a joke.

Anyways, of course it was merely a dumb comment, but its amazing how some of these countries react concerning little things. Turkey for instance, very popular amongst North European tourist, very emancipated, beautiful and great for all kinds of partying. BUT, if you get caught trying to take a souvenir back thats a natural item of any kind(stone from a beach even) then you can get arrested and jailed for a long time. Its happened alot to the most innocent of people, sometimes parents of children that took a stone with them.

haha lol
I have a friend in my AP Calculus class who's from Turkey, I'll have to ask him about that...

Hey well Europeans brought dogs over to Australia and they evolved into dingos and wiped out Australia's only two carnivorous mammals, the Tasmanian devil, now only found in the tiny island of Tasmania, and the Tasmanian tiger, which is now extinct. The Tasmanian tiger was not actually a tiger (a tiger could own an entire pack of dogs anyway) but a unique four legged, semi-striped, dog-like mammal which sadly, couldn't compete with the dingo's pack hunting and lost it's food source and died.

And if you bring a Madagascar cockroach to the US...you can expect a full biohazard containment team and the FBI, CIA, and customs agents to all drop by your house lol

Okay shitheads, enough about the dingos =)

I have know done some more research regarding the protectionsytem of the Cube. I know that the discs are burned with a special technique and that the laser reads the discs backwards, BUT, you can buy a modchip for your Cube with a special bios in it which makes the laser able to read the discs both ways. "Backward" and "forward", but since no copied games seems to excist in thailand i just have to go to BKK and go to the big BIG store where all shops are related to electronics and such. There I will find me some cheap MINI-DVD's (since they cost like 10 dollars/disc in sweden) and buy a lot of them and send them home to Sweden by air-mail and then download and burn the games myself!

Haven't had the time to reply before since I've been busy buying clothes, dvd-films and drinking my head of (a bucket with Vodka redbull cost like 7 bucks and lasts for hours). In other words, I've been enjoying my vacation =)

heh, yeah.... goodluck at that. Mini-Dvd's are not gonna cut it. *sigh* You fail to realize that not only the GC is hard to crack, but the *mini-dvds* aren't the same mini's brought at your store shelves. it's much more complicated.

You can do whatever you want, but good luck getting a gamecube to play burnt games. And you'll have to worry about those Cyborg Ninja assassins Nintendo will be sending after you

What?!?!?!

A Dingo is not an evolved dog (well not a dog evolved from the domestic dog)!!! A dingo is native to Australia and have been bred with domestic dogs by farmers...

The Tasmanian Tiger is extinct (although there are always supposed "sightings" every now and then), although the major reason they are extinct is because of Humans hunting them. I don't beleive that Dingoes out-hunted the tigers in their natural habitat because they are mainly mainland creatures...

I still wonder about your mentality. You want to pirate games but buy DVD movies? I mean, hell, why buy a DVD when you can rent it for a day or two and if necessary (though who would watch a movie twice?) copy it?
Title: RE:Cheap GC-games in thailand?
Post by: Sqwarts on December 25, 2004, 08:13:06 PM
Hey, I mean it's not like the dvd's in thailand are originals =)
And since movies has a great value to me (especially films like snatch, lock stock and two smoking barrels, pulp fiction, boondock saints etc.) I get them as decoration for my apartment as well as for entertainment.

And since the dvd movies are cheap here I buy them, and the games are not cheap so I don't buy them. (I would have if they were cheaper than they are but in sweden you have to pay like 35 dollars/game and I am a student so I can't afford that. Actually I did buy SSBM simply because it's the greatest game ever!

But wish me good luck with my GC-hacking, me and my friend will do our best. And I have a cyber ninja alarm so that's okay.

heh, it's sad that you would be this naive. Since when 35 dollars is a bad deal for a game? I assume it was new.

I doubt you can hack the GC without great expenses. The only way is the Phantasy Star Online, and that's limited.
remember, if your caught, your good as dead

... 35USD??? You know what a freaking good deal that would be? Games cost around 70USD everywhere and I expected Sweden to be around or over 80USD (perhaps you did a bad conversion) from the prices I've seen. But maybe Stockholm is much more expensive than the rest of the country...
Title: RE:Cheap GC-games in thailand?
Post by: Sqwarts on December 30, 2004, 07:08:35 PM
Well that was the retail version of it, or platinum or whatever it's called. And for a new game it would cost around 70-80 USD (500 swedish crowns, SKR, or more). Because of the low value of the USD it's actually cheaper for us to import games from the US. And I don't know why I said 35 USD, it should be like 42-45 USD, and that's for a platinum version!
Title: RE: Cheap GC-games in thailand?
Post by: KDR_11k on December 30, 2004, 10:03:15 PM
Remember, when you import you have to add shipping, sales tax (25% if Google is right?) and duty to the price. Which explains the price difference between Sweden and Germany as Germany has only 16% sales tax.

PSO is far from the only way to hack the Gamecube. There's tmbinc's IPL replacement, hacks with the MAX Drive Pro, and of course, the ViperGC Modchip.
