Title: will the DS be the hot holiday seller?

Im just wondering because after seeing countless Good Morning America/CNN holiday forecast shows, it appears that there is no big toy this year (nothing must-have like tickle me elmo).
that got me thinking that the hot holiday gifts will be video games and mp3 players and such, but when CNN touched up on the cool gadgets, not once did they mention the DS. This worries me, as this is an absolutely fantastic system; all Nintendo needs to do is get the media to notice it. This could be the big thing.
any thoughts? or did i just make another worthless topic?

Worthless topic.
lol there's no real way for it to be a big seller, as not nearly enough have been shipped out. I do expect every single unit to be sold out by Christmas, but there just weren't enough in the first place. Glad I got mine :-D

I saw a glass case with at least 50 at walmart. Plus, were still waiting on a second shipment which should be here shortly. I dont see anything limiting the DS becoming a hot seller, as Stimutacs Addict says, except ofcourse underexposure...

I blame, like always, NOA for this. Look at NOJ's approach. It's not even out yet and they have already outsold US. Hell, they've surpassed doubling what the US has sold.

Yeah, I agree with VGJ.
And TVman, that's fiscal year, which doesn't end till March.
And Switchblade, I don't think that second shipment's coming until around Dec 20, which isn't a very convenient time for Christmas shopping...

Let's not forget the pissed off parents who just cashed in on the GBASP price drop. that could hurt DS sales when parents do their holiday shopping for their kids.

You don't always have to sell the most to be the hot holiday item.
The GBC was THE thing to have in holiday 1998. Stores ran out quickly and they became scarce in an instant. I'm sure Ocarina of Time sold more units that year, but the GBC was the hot thing, no debate.

No, you're right, but in all our eyes, the DS is the item to have already. In others' its an iPod, and in others' its a Blackberry. But to truly earn that title, you kind of do.
