Title: Nintendo Shows Off DS Box Art
Post by: Jonnyboy117 on September 29, 2004, 04:32:42 AM
Plus, more details on how big the Metroid demo will be.

Nintendo DS Box Art (N. America)

There you go.  Nintendo of America has included a logo for Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt right on the Nintendo DS's box, but the company is saying that later shipments of the system may have a cleaner look...

In addition to the built-in instant-messaging PictoChat feature, Nintendo DS units in North America will come with a free Nintendo DS Game Card featuring a playable demo of the upcoming Metroid Prime Hunters game*. The demo, called Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt, will feature several single-player modes of the first-person adventure game along with a unique multiplayer mode in which four DS users can compete wirelessly. Nintendo DS launches Nov. 21 in North America at an MSRP of $149.99.

This statement confirms that PictoChat will be hardwired into the system and will not require a Game Card, but First Hunt will.  It also clears up the question of whether First Hunt will include any single-player features, which was not clear after last week's announcements.  And if you want the Metroid demo, you'd better pick up a DS this year, because it looks like it won't be offered forever.

Not much to add.

The box design is very basic Nintendo.  Simple elegant picture of the system.  Splash Art for bonus discs which are probably stickers so that when Nintendo changes the promotion it can be something different.

What is alittle sad is we don't know what is on the back of the box.  Which is usually launch games and teases for games coming out for the system...also in typical Nintendo fare.

Metroid being a demo I think confirms that Metroid: Hunters will not be a launch title.  I personally would love a bunch of levels that are basically single missions in which Samus is hunting down different criminals every level...but I doubt we will get something like that.

I think the box looks nice.  It has a sense of royalty (?) to it.  It makes me just want to go out, buy it, and spend my life wasting away in front of its screens.  :rools::

I don't know if I would go that far.

It is a bit cleaner than other Nintendo Boxes.  I like the focus of White, Black and the picture of the system.

It just appears to be simple and elegant.

I really like the Japanese DS website.  The menu system is pretty trippy.  You just feel like you are floating in a white room.

They're saying "several singleplayer modes", does that mean Hunters won't be a normal Metroid game and have more than one mode it can be played in?

Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt (God what a long title) has single player levels.  Thank you.  I now take back any criticism I had towards Nintendo regarding that issue.

Though what's with this "while supplies last" asterisk?  Why release later versions without the demo?  Early adopters are going to buy a DS regardless.  Having a pack-in really should be used to grab those on the fence.  They should keep this around for at least a year I think.

Well I was thinking that Ninty might replace the demo with a new one sometime down the line, but it doesn't really matter to me...

Anyway, the Metroid logo is a little big, but reasonably so, and it obviously won't keep me from getting it...

I don't get whats more confirmed or cleared up.  All that was cleared up by Nintendo last week in the press release and teleconference.

i like it, typical nintendo style, but on the more contemporary side, makes it looks like a serious machine. i think the metroid demo'll be quality, it'll be nice to have something right at the get-go that you check out the wireless capabilities with (aside from pictochat).

P.S. i assume that the ds on the side of the box is running pictochat? <as if anyone would know>

While I agree from a business stand point, it is a about time the company gave SOMETHING (material) to early adopters.

"P.S. i assume that the ds on the side of the box is running pictochat? <as if anyone would know>"

That would be correct...

"While I agree from a business stand point, it is a about time the company gave SOMETHING (material) to early adopters."

This statement makes it look like Ninty is the only one who hasn't packed in free stuff for a console's premiere... =\

"I don't get whats more confirmed or cleared up.

I don't recall reading about First Hunt (officially) having single-player...

Only the 3d ones will...(Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion, for example?)

Well, yes pack-ins have stopped in recent times and Nintendo isn't the only one guilty, but recently Nintendo is most notorious for huge price drops and bundles that favor late adopters (price drops especially on the handheld front).  Sony in comparison took much longer to drop their price.  I'm not saying Sony was justified I'm just saying it took awhile for them to start offering incentives.

Wait, so making people pay more for a longer period of time is better?  I don't follow that... =(

I think they put on the "while supplies last" because nintendo wants people to think that if they do not buy the ds now, they may not be able to get the demo.  They probably will have the demo come with the ds for a while though, if not metroid then another one down the line.

I think the reason it says "while supplies last" is simply because the demo is going to change multiple times over the course of the systems life.

nonetheless, i want a DS, very badly.

The Metroid thing at the bottom looks stupid and out of place. I don't think i'll get a DS if that's what the package looks like.

"~Mario (Being Ian??!) (j/k) ^-^"

Hey!  I would never not buy something because of the packaging.  If I did the English/French bilingual writing on Canadian packaging would turn me off of every first party game (and all cereals).  Plus there's Ikaruga's "frothing demand" quote.

The Metroid is kind of an eyesore, but not bad.  I also think the pen is kind of distracting, and shouldn't be in the middle of the console like that.  Not sure about that.

The oo at the end of Nintendo is a stroke of genius, though!  Ha, freakin' awesome.
I may just have to get this.  Alas, more money gone.  You have ruined my financial life, Nintendo.

And to think, I just took a "financial training" seminar at my school.  Bah.  Required seminars suck!  "Please seperate your want from your needs"

What some people don't realize, is that I _need_ a DS.  Plain and simple.
