LOL!!!!!!!!! Kenny if Nintendo shipped Donkey Konga with 4 drum controllers then Donkey Konga will cost about 140 - 175 then.

Why would Ninty give away more than one set of bongos with DKonga? People need to stop expecting to get things free, because that's just not how life works...

Definitly not going to ship 4 bongos. for that the package would have to be like 50 feet wide. I agree its stupid that we have to buy an extra bongo for 30 bucks but thats just the way things go.

It's not stupid. How much do you pay for a new Nintendo controller? It has an MSRP of $24.99, and if I remember right, the MSRP when GCN launched was $34.99. So paying $29.99 for a bongo is not that bad at all.

And if Nintendo packaged two bongos, queue the people who are pissed off that the have to pay for an extra one when they will only ever be playing one player....
Or I guess Nintendo could have just called you and asked you what would make you happiest.. =P

i pay $30 for a regular controller (wavebird) because i can play it with more than one game. Not like Donkey Konga and the bongo. I will only be using it for 1 game and i don't think $30 is a resonable price for it.

Ahem, Jungle Beat and Odama will be using it as well...

49.99 With bongos...that’s already a good deal you cheap thingy you. I presumed more than one player can play with one bongo set (make that lazy brother of yours clap, or else bust a cap). If he really wants to get into the action, make him pay for the extra bongos, or if you really want him to play with you then cough up the dough. It could have been worse, Nintendo could have sold the package for 69.99 with bongos to begin with.

The Wavebird's spoiled me, I was disappointed that the bongos weren't wireless

It's not just about what you think extra bongos are worth to you. A bunhc of money was spent developing the game, and the bongos cost a certain amount of money to produce. They're packing one set of bongos with the game and selling it for the standard price of $50.
They probably can't really afford to sell the extra bongos cheaper than $30, otherwise, they probably would.
Anyways, the game's a lot of fun but there needs to be an expansion. I want more songs. Plus it is kind of dissappointing that none of the songs are performed by the original artists.
I guess Nintendo was trying to keep the licensing costs down. If you check the manual, all of the songs are licensed from EMI/Virgin. A larger soundtrack obviously would have cost more money, and probably be from multiple publishers, further adding to cost.
Still, there should have been a lot more Nintendo game songs. Really there are only three in the game. I can think of a whole ton of Nintendo game songs that they could have had on Donkey Konga. The DKC soundtrack would have been a good place to start.

Yeah, that always irked me. If its Donkey Konga, why no Donkey Kong songs?
Maybe in Konga 3...
By the way, is there going to be a special promotion with Konga packed with GCNs? Or was that just a rumor?

Isn't there already a japanese expansion??
Hmm...that tells me donkey konga 2 in about...april or march

It's got the DK Rap from DK64 and SSBM. If that's a good thing or a bad thing is entirely up to you...

I've seen display boxes for it on IGN somewhere (too lazy to look now) but I think it's UK only. Especially since we've got the Metroid Bundle going on right now...
EDIT: Okay, I'm not that lazy. The picture for it is here. Looking closely at it, the "Only For" symbol on the picture of the DK box looks like the PAL bubble instead of the US triangle. So it's for Europe only.

That promo is only in Europe hence the PAL only for "bubble"

As long as Nintendo supports DK Konga with more Expansions its WELL Worth it...
Trust me, i bought Samba De Amigo and the Slightly more Expensive Marracas back in the Day.... Ahhh the Sega Dreamcast.

Please don't give Nintendo any ideas. By this time next year I may be posting news about Donkey Konga Songa at my site. jk

Lord: Not only the PAL "bubble", the GC sign on the side of the box is on the upper side, not the lower (unless Tales has the sign weirdly aligned that should be a way to tell NTSC and PAL apart).

OK, from what I've read the game in the US will come with one drum controller at the price of $49.99, right?! Yet here in Canada we have to buy the drum controller seperately? That's $59.99 + $39.99 + 15% taxes = Nintendo should consider their buisness ways here in Canada!
Title: RE: Donkey Konga controllers..?
Post by: Pale on September 28, 2004, 10:32:40 AM
Thats weird that it would be different in canada, seeing as the donky konga box here in the states is one of most international nintendo things i've seen released here. It even comes with two instruction books.

Nintendo hasn't let me down by a close call. Yes, the drum controller does come included with the game here in Canada but apparently the game-shop clerks didn't even know it would be included. I went to get the game at noon and they didn't have it so I asked when they would and they said by 2pm they would, I also asked if the drum would be included and they said no because that's what they've been told. When I went back to get it they had just received it and they still didn't know if it was included or not but on the box it said "Donkey konga (DK Bongos included)", so they and I concluded that indeed they were included. I got mine at EBGames btw and I had checked if futureshop would have it included but even futureshop's site said that the drums had to be bought seperatly. This mis-information is bad for Nintendo's buisness because people want to buy/pre-order it and they are told that the drum has to be also bought, so I think that Nintendo should either inform the retailers or at least publicize that info better to the buyers.

"It's got the DK Rap from DK64 and SSBM. If that's a good thing or a bad thing is entirely up to you..."
Why does Nintendo keep unearthing that thing? It's the only track on the SSBM soundtrack that people complained about. The general consensus is that the DK Rap SUCKS so why keep re-using it? Considering the general backlash against DK64 you figure they would make an effort to try not to make any references to it in the hope that we'll all forget. But then this is the company that has Krystal in Star Fox Armada and has kept Yoshi in his Yoshi's Story look so maybe they have some weird obsession with any of their titles people hate.

What's wrong with DK Rap? I like it quite a bit and I see no reason to say that this is a bad song considering there are other songs in this game that should have been substituted with something else, but then again I almost only listen to video-game and anime soundtracks so me not liking most of the mainstream songs in this game is quite obvious.

"What's wrong with DK Rap?"
It's kind of hard to explain. How does one decribe why a song sounds bad? It's just really cheesy and lame. The quality of the lyrics is pretty poor as well. To me the whole thing reaks of some NOA exec suggesting it to be "hip" with the kids.
That doesn't mean that there aren't other songs in Donkey Konga that are worse. But of all the DK related songs to pick the DK Rap is probably the worst. There are tons of songs from DKC that would work well in it's place that are pretty much universally loved by all. Plus why pick a song from Donkey Kong 64 instead of Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2 which are WAY more popular with the fans? Like if you had to pick one song from a Mario game which game would make more sense? Super Mario Land or Super Mario Bros 3? Picking the theme song from the least popular DK game just doesn't make any sense.

I happen to like the cheesiness of the DK Rap, I like Krystal, and I love the look of Yoshi's Story...Stop generalizing please...

Now that seems like a better way to explain why they would be doing a better choice other than DK Rap. I know that the lyrics aren't that top notch but then again when I listen to music I listen to it as a whole and not just the lyrics or just the tune, i.e. the vocals I hear are interpreted as a tune just as if it was an instrument playing.

I dunno, DK rap has become a SSBM song to me... I don't picture crappy DK64 at all, I only picture beating people up with Sheik. =P So the song is all good in my book.

Eh, the DK rap was actually the best part of DK64. It's so bad it's good.... kind of like, you don't watch the Adam West Batman movie because it was an Oscar winner, you watch it because it's so campy and fun.

Hi folks I havn't posted anything in some time due to my own computer being busted and me saving to buy a new one soon. But guess what happend to me last night? Well yesterday while at work I picked up Donkey Konga with the drums at the largest EB in the world at Universal City Walk. And I had my GameCube in my break room at the time and we would play in between shows. Boy did I have a good time, then later that night I traveled over to my girlfriends house and we played there. Then on my way home walking down the street from the bus stop, I was held at gun point and my drums as well as my wallet and every credit card and ID I had were all stolen from me. But jokes on them I only had 30 bucks in my wallet and had they looked in my back pack they would have found a GCN with 4 controllers, Soul Calibur, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros. I refuse to play the game with out the drums, and i'm very sad. But it is a great game though.

Jeez! That's some mugging...glad you're okay.
I'm quite sure Rare intended for the DK Rap to be corny. I mean, the monkeys are getting into all kinds of stupid slapstick antics all the way through the "video" at the beginning of DK64. I thought it was funny, in a somewhat embarrassing way. But mostly, I bet that the Japanese devs that keep bringing it back just don't see it our way. They probably don't realize how bad the lyrics are (and it's really the lyrics that break that song - the song would be kind of boring without the lyrics, but it's not downright terrible until you add the lyrics in).
