Bravo! Now Nintendo really needs to market the hell out of this one; perhaps as discussed add a Zelda demo or something. And there aren't many of the same genre on the Cube, so this news is even better.

Wuss.

What I take out of this review is that there are no flaws, because the graphics look fine to me and when I do get to play the game it'll be in english.

Will this be easy to get into as my first Fire Emblem game, or should I check out the GBA one(s) first?

Maybe it's a good thing that Zelda was delayed, because Fire Emblem might have stolen Game of the Year from it.

"More difficult? Okay, count me out."

Considering how much I hear people b!tch about the difficulty of the "easy" GBA Fire Emblems this might be a little out of my league.  I'll probably get it anyway though because without Zelda I've got nothing else to play.  When someone is tossing "Game of the Year" around then you give the game a chance regardless of difficulty.

And as IceCold said Nintendo should start pushing this thing to the moon.  It has credibility as a mature game and a good game.  Those are the elements of a big holiday title.

Can anyone tell me if there's the obligatory walk-through campaign at the beginning of this game like there was in the first GBA Fire Emblem?  I skipped Sacred Stones, and I'm a little worried that some of the additions (most notably skills and the blacksmith mode) will be lost on me and I'll just skip over them like I did with badges for Mario & Luigi.

Also, it’s said in the review that difficulty level is selectable from the beginning--can it be changed mid-game?  For example, if I start out on Normal mode and halfway through it becomes apparent that the game is too hard for me can I change the difficulty to easy, or am I stuck on hard unless I start over?  GBA Fire Emblem got really difficult at about mission 26 or 27.  (I still haven't been able to beat it.)
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Alright a few things:

There is an easy mode. This is probably closest to "normal" on the GBA versions, so don't completely freak out. :P I'm just happy that finally we've got a difficult Fire Emblem game --if you want to. IntSys seems to finally have come to an accomodation between pleasing hardcore fans from the SFC era like myself, while still keeping the game "accessible" to people new to the series.  Maniac makes me happy. But lord is it hard. (That's a good thing.)

No, you can't change the difficultly level midway through the game. You'd have to start over. The game'll let you know if you're above or below your skill level within about four chapters in. (About an hour).

As for Blacksmithing and Skills and everything else that's new, there's an optional tutorial that shows you how it works. You can skip over it if you like but it's in there so it'll be explained to you. Also, you can just try it out and see. Skills are really self explanitory. Blacksmithing is fun, if expensive. Remember you can press the X button to get a "description" of the item you're looking at too.

As for it being the Game of the Year, I'd definately vote so, and I adore RE4. Heh.

I hope this helps, and ensures a few more Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance purchases. Heh.

Mario: I'm not that good at strategy titles (except Perimeter) and I absolutely can't handle turn based because you can't adjust to situations in those, you have to wait until you've been annihilated and it's your turn again. Never mind handling the equipment of more than three or four characters at once (with more I just ignore shops and rely on loot and auto-equip). So I prefer not to play hard turn based tactics games.
