Don't know, they pretty much stand together quality wise.  Season has some great tunes.  I've played them so often, I don't really need them.  Yeah, right.  My 3DS is a portable Zelda machine.

That's not my experience.  It's jerky almost the entire time.  When it saves, you get slowdown, but the scrolling is choppy throughout.  This guy mentions what I'm talking about, and you can even see it in his video:

Framerate is consistently poor, making the whole game chunky to the point of being annoying.  I have seen that mentioned for the 360 version as well, so I guess its an inherent flaw.  The game is pretty good otherwise.  It's mainly figuring out how to use inventory items.

By sheer coincidence, I have both those games!  Weird!

I don't get the NSMB2/NSMBWU dislike.  Love them.  Okay, I get that people think they're too similar and safe, but they're what I want.  I remember back before the original DS game when it seemed like Mario sidescrollers were a thing of the past.

I actually need one for my 3DS and haven't found the right one at any store.  I just hope I don't need those 400 pts. for something really cool as soon as they're gone (ie, "We're offering the SNES-style controller for a limited time!")

Maybe it's the Cabela's review being fresh in my mind and causing me some concern.

Just watched a video, and it looks awesome. LostWindy.  I just hope it doesn't suffer from the increasingly common Wii U slowdown/frame rate drops.

Is this Sonic demo the same one from a while back that still had frame rate issues?  Because it's decent, but I did get slowdown.  I'm hoping they just didn't bother to patch the demo, which was the case in articles about the demo from back in September.

August, huh?  I've been checking CN *every day* since I missed out the first time, so I guess that's something like 90 days.  Well, I got in this time, and Nintendo sent me a shipped notice on both that and the Mario cards reward that same night. I've got the gold Wiimote, so I'm definitely actually using the nunchuk.

Jonny, if you look closely, the platform to the pokey is a batter's box and home plate, and the whole thing is a baseball stadium.  A major clue, but I'm kind of dumb.  I did actually have the bat, I think, but maybe I didn't use it right, because I still had to use a bunch of other special stickers.

Neal, the first time I face the pokey, I "cheated."  I wasted a bunch of special stickers, but I had saved before the battle.  I dropped to the home menu, closed the game, and was then able to restart with all of my stickers intact.  A cheap way to experiment.

I haven't had any of these problems and I absolutely refuse to look at a walkthrough.  Maybe it helps what order you play the levels in--I played the swamps second, not the desert, and the swamps are loaded with items--but I've found it to be pretty smooth sailing.  I will admit that the boss fights are a pain.  I have to use tons of special stickers, after which Kersti advises me to use fewer.  I think each boss is susceptible to certain stickers, and you just have to try to figure out which ones.

Other than the revamped battle system, I'm surprised when people say it's significantly different from the first two Papers.  It's right in line with them and is just as charming. The conclusion of the oasis puzzle made me bark with laughter.

Thanks, toothsaw.  That's helpful to know.  I'll likely leave it on the Wii U and remember to have that on when I'm Wii-ing.

I've been planning on having my Wii sit next to the Wii U so I could use the GC emulator, but I'm not sure how two sensor bars would work and I won't feel like moving the sensor bar cable every time.  Maybe I should transfer my Wii stuff over, retire the Wii, and bring my GameCube out of mothballs.  Would the wireless controller I bought for my Wii work?  Its receiver plugs into the GC outlet. Yeah, it's basically a GC inside the Wii so it would have to work.

TalkBack / Re: Server Stress and Broken Systems Vex Wii U Launch
« on: November 19, 2012, 12:45:31 AM »
I set my Wii U to downloading and went to eat, so I don't know how long it took.  I haven't had any issues.  I checked out a website, transferred my Mii from my 3DS, played a very little bit of NSMBWU, and bought and downloaded Trine 2.  I assume that went fine, because I set it to turn off when it was done downloading, and everything was shut down after I watched The Walking Dead.  I guess I should check that, but so far, so good.

To the person above complaining about the screen being cut off on non-HDTVs, it happens on my old CRT 16x9 set.  Find out if you can adjust the overscan.  I used to know how to do it and will have to figure out how again. Then again, I'm temporarily using component video until I can get an HDMI switcher (old TV, one HDMI input), so I may wait and see if my HDMI input is more correct.  As it is, Mario looked much better on the Gamepad than my TV.

While I'm at it, I was under the mistaken impression that those 3DS/Wii U eShop cards went into a pool and could be used for either system.  Nope.  Only works on the systems on which you redeem it.  Sucks.

I was able to confirm that Trine 2 downloaded.  That's super swell. I do wonder why it and New Super render on both the TV and the pad.  I wonder if you can tell it just to render on one or the other.

I went out to Walmart at midnight and bought Mario.  I didn't want to have to deal with it tomorrow when I pick up my preorder at Best Buy.  One guy ahead of me was able to snag a Deluxe without a preorder, and I think another guy in line caught a white version just by chance, but after that, the guy said every other system was claimed.  There wasn't a big line, though it's just a 24 hour store and they weren't specifically doing a big midnight thing.

But, I have my first Wii U game in the house!   :cool;

They didn't lie by much, so I was able to download it.  I'm maybe an hour to an hour and a half in and loving it.  The combat system doesn't suffer at all by being sticker based.  Welcome back, classic Paper Mario!

I couldn't agree at all.  I like them both, but the first two Papers have more wit, charm, and a more enjoyable combat system.

I'd be downloading the new one right now, but Nintendo lied about it being released at midnight.

What Nintendo sites do you visit, because I may have to steal that Reggie joke for the ones you don't go to. Good, original usage there.  :cool;

But will using the P-acorn take the shine off my stars?

I wonder why Nintendo dropped all the minigames after the original New Super.  They added a lot of value and were fun.

I've not played them either.  I think the 3DS version will be the impetus for me to start at the start.
