Spurious SpotPass Surprise
« on: October 01, 2011, 10:02:48 PM »

Did somebody press the wrong button?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blog/27974

This morning, I noticed that my 3DS was blinking with a SpotPass notification. I opened my 3DS and the Notifications applet only to find a very strange message:

JJXE(en)

This message was accompanied by the Paper Mario 3DS video icon. Shortly thereafter, I received five more notices, one for each of the 3DS Conference trailers. I had downloaded the 3DS Conference trailers the other day and turned on notification settings for each one.

So the notifications are working, I guess. The strange messages are simply the product codes for each of the video channels. That doesn't explain why they were sent out in the first place, but I'm assuming it was an accident.

This is not the first time that these strange notices have appeared on 3DSes. A test message for the eShop was transmitted about a week ago.

Hey Nintendo, your system's working. For your next "test," how about you deliver some actual demos or something more substantial?

I got that same thing today. I hope it's demos coming soon.

Just out of curiosity, do you leave your 3DS in sleep mode all the time, even when it is charging?

Mine showed up today and I got that test message some time ago.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

Yes, that's how it's intended to be used.

It is? Seems like it should have had a better battery then. If the system is off, do they get delivered the next time the system is turned on? I know I had trouble receiving Wii messages whenever my system was turned off so I'm wondering if the same issue holds true here.

Shame on you, N, for spamming my 3DS inbox [even though I asked you to].

I never power down my 3DS (unless to reset it after a weird lock up) and always put it in the cradle when I'm done. I always find I recieve the new spotpasses the next day when I open it up again. So unlike the Wii, it is very much encouraged to never power down your 3DS, but to simply fold it up and cradle it when done.

I got that message, and about 1 1/2 months ago i quit leaving it on all the time.
I turn it on in morning, for 1/2 hour and the same in the noon time hour and early
evening, East coast time.
If the battery was better i would leav it in sleep, but i leave it in sleep now only for
Street pass and step meter.(play coins)
At 6:55pm EST turned it on for 5 mins, it updated my video channel. DONE!
