What SNES RPG do you love more?
« on: May 29, 2009, 06:38:56 PM »
No fight for me. I got bored of FF6 sometime after the Opera scene. I just did not care about the characters and the level design was just to boring.

chrono trigger on the other hand is amazing. One of the best games I ever played and feels like a totally unique game unlike anything else. FF6 feels exactly like FF4 but with worse storyline but same layout and battle system.

that was FFIII in the US right?

they were both HUGE games for me back in the day.
A friend turned me onto FFIII & I turned a different friend onto CT
So its gonna be a tough call, because I enjoyed them both so much, but it was sooo long ago.

Why isn't there a 3rd option of both.

I'm somewhat amused that Super Mario RPG is left out of this discussion, but between FF6 and Chrono Trigger it's no contest: Chrono Trigger.  FF6 starts out strong, but just dies out in its monotonous second half.
There was a Signature here. It's gone now.

This is a duel between to 16-bit RPG greats. No third parties allowed this time. Plus Chrono Trigger is obviously superior to Mario RPG.  :P

(I sense a follow up poll involving Mario RPG and the winner of this poll)

My top 3 Super NES games looks like this:

1. Earthbound
2. Chrono Trigger
3. Super Mario RPG

Funny thing about that is I don't even like RPGs... or I guess that would be modern RPGs?

Anyways, Chrono Trigger definitely wins over Final Fantasy III/VI, although I suppose it could be argued that Chrono Trigger is an evolution of FFIII. Though what really puts it ahead is the music, it is simply incredible and unforgettable.

Same here, I have most of it on my computer. I don't need much of an excuse to start listening to them... Guess what I'm doing right now?

I'm guessing the same thing I've been doing half the day :)
Though I decided to switch over to World Ends With You music for a bit. I'll go back once that album finishes. The Chrono Trigger album is huge. I also have the Brink Of Time album of Chrono Trigger jazz arrangements. It's a strange one.

If there was a spot for it, I'd have to say Earthbound. It's my all time favorite game. Both FF6 and Chrono Trigger are fantastic. I ended up playing both in college around the same time.

I think FF6 has the stronger story. There are more story moments that stick out in my mind, whereas Chrono Trigger doesn't have as many. That's not to say that CT doesn't have a great story, but FF6 has a much deeper one. I'll always remember the opening scenes in Narshe, anything involving Kefka, and a certain scene involving Celes.

Chrono Trigger has the stronger gameplay, and is in my mind the superior game. While I enjoy FF6's battle system, CT's is much more fun. I love the tech system, and it made you think about who you were going to bring along for different bosses. In FF6, once you started getting Espers, your characters started to blend in together. In Chrono Trigger, each character had more of a chance to stand out and be different.

I've played both but not when they came out.FF6 on the GBA and Chrono Trigger on the DS. I would have to say that my thoughts are the same as North Sea.  I really want to play Earthbound.

Do so through any means necessary, it will be worth it. The game is ineffable.

An online poll, heh, that's a pretty small percentage of people who owned an SNES. Considering how poorly Chrono Trigger sold in comparison to other games and the SNES itself, few people outside the Interent have actually played Chrono Trigger.

Thanks to the 'magic' of Warez, petty thieves across all the interwebs can enjoy the magic of Chrono Trigger.  :-\

Plus there is the DS game.

Only 280k in America? I consider myself lucky to have a copy.

I wonder how many people who own the original bought the DS version... Looks like it sold more than the SNES version already so hopefully it has converted a lot of new fans.
