Street Fighter 3DS Touch Controls Detailed
« on: October 15, 2010, 04:43:01 PM »

The 3DS Street Fighter game uses the touch screen for 'shortcut' moves.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/24273

Andriasang has translated Capcom's official Super Street Fighter IV 3D website update, which includes details of touch screen support for fighting controls.

The touch screen has four panels and almost any kind of attack can be assigned to each of them. This includes Ultra Combos, throws, Focus Attacks, standard special moves, and three-button punch/kick simultaneous presses. That means you can execute these attacks instantly through the touch screen, making it easier than standard button presses on the Nintendo 3DS.

My first instinct was you complain & call such a thing "cheap" but...Considering up close & personal situations, taking your thumb away from the buttons to push one of these may cost you that split second & give the opponent time to move out of the way.

Might be useful for gamers that have trouble playing fighting games but in vs matches these guys may have some problems if they rely too heavily on these shortcuts.

This is something similar to Capcom vs. SNK 2 E.O. for the game cube.

With less real-estate than a regular controller, this allows folk to get off those more difficult ultras by Blanka, Guile, Vega, M.Bison.... those that need you to charge inn one direction and repeat it twice more.

Even though Street Fighter is the pinnacle of serious fighting games, it'll never be as serious on a hand held, so I think it's cool that there making it so that the player can still have fantastical fun with the awesome moves that the Cpu is whipping you with.

(That was longer than it need to be...)
....he asked me if the glass was half full or half empty. "Neither." I replied. "I see a glass that is two times bigger than it needs to be....

It's like C-Sticking in Smash Bros or the (usually shoulder) buttons that do grabs which are typically two-button combos on traditional fighting games.

2 button combos make sense on a controller because you only have one finger on the buttons. Arcade sticks make hitting multiple buttons easy.

Fast specials shouldn't be hurting the game because a person with enough skill will enter the special move correctly anyway and the game is balanced to make special move spam a bad idea. Only newbies think special moves are somehow inherently better than regular moves.

The Bleach DS games had special buttons on the touch screen and it worked fine.

I love this idea...

Yes it could be cheap, but I love how you can program any 4 moves you want.  Do you want to program in a super combo do it.  If you want to quickly do special moves that might be difficult for you to pull off do it.  If you want to try to program a complicated multi-hit combo you can do that.

To me it is a nice addition to a game, that allows the gamer to take more control of the fighter.  I like it alot.

How hard are the Ultra Combos to pull off anyways? Only ever played Street Fighter IV once & I stuck to what I knew & used Supers.

Now that I think about it, putting those moves that require a 360 movement with the control stick/pad in shortcuts would be pretty useful.

For total nubs like me how cant pull out Vega´s special, this is awesome ;0

On the other hand, its pretty useful for certain characters with few and spamable attacks (Ryu,Sagat,Ken etc..) t}}

I can see a lot of people complaining about how cheap this is, just like some people did with the C-stick smash attacks in Super Smash Brothers Melee. Unless the game is completely unbalanced, no skilled player should lose when the opposing player is spamming attacks, so this should allow for a little simplification to help get players involved in the game without cheapening it.

I could never for the life of me consistently pull off a Dragon Punch when I wanted too.  And there are other moves that are very difficult to pull off in Street Fighter...specially playing at home on consoles.  I don't find it cheap at all.

If the controls have the same issue as Street Alpha 3 on the GBA had we all may have to set stuff on there.

Even when I used the GBA player on the Game Cube I cannot perform a super move in that version. Yet I have no trouble doing the same moves with the Playstation version.
