Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 812: I Wouldn't Even Accept Your Apology
« on: February 17, 2024, 01:52:48 PM »
I had a saturn as a kid. Previously I had my mom's NES. I wanted an N64 to play mario and ended up with a saturn. I think my parents thought it was a better value for some strange reason.

My entire saturn collection as a kid:
-Demo disc
-Sonic 3D blast
- Virtua Fighter 2

I was like this thing fucking sucks. I played a lot of virtual fighter 2. I still have my saturn and glad I enjoy it as an adult.

My brother and I played through Playdead's inside yesterday. It was 2 dollars on steam and was fun for a few hours.

Enjoyed the fitness talk as well. I just wanted to add avoid drinking calories such as pop, beer, milk. Doing something everyday even if it's small is a great place to start. Stress increases cortisol and makes you want to put on weight. My heaviest was 230 and currently 190. I was so proud when I got to 180 that I started going to taco bell again. It's amazing how easy it is to put back.

For every lb you lose you take roughly 4 pounds of pressure off your knees. So a 5 lb lost while seeming small can have profound effects. Getting regular good sleep is great too.

I feel like everyone who is in the more like thousand year door hasn't played it recently. I remember Guillaume way back criticizing it and I was not in agreement. I loved that game. I played it nearly straight through when it came out.

I played it a few years ago and it's just okay. Maybe barely okay. I did not enjoy it and was very bored at the end.

They just need to re-release it so everyone remembers

As with RFN tradition, an email suggesting a snes remake has willed 3D Mario collection into existence.

The oracle games were the first ones I played. I played Link to the Past on the GBA and it was so hyped I was disappointed. I remember getting extremely lost about 1/3 of the way through the game. I replayed it as an adult and thought much higher of it (could respect more of the age it came out in).

Same thing happened with Super Metroid. First metroid I played was Metroid Prime and Fusion. Loved Zero Mission and Prime 2. I was all excited to finally play Super Metroid on virtual console. I was very heart broken, but now appreciate it after some more time.

You know, I have no shame. I use rewind feature, save states, and walkthroughs without a care in the world. I only went through Ghouls 'n Ghosts once. No cares given.

I was mainly making a joke that I was the typical "average" user during the Wii's life cycle that actually used the virtual console. I bought and played Super mario bros 1, lost levels, SMB 3, Super mario world, Super metroid, Link to the past, OoT, Majora's mask, DKC country, etc. There were more people like me at the time which is what lead to the drip feed. I completely ignored third party nintendo system games, genesis, and turbographx section at the time which had some really good stuff. I did buy a bunch of games before the shop closed including Rondo, Rebirth trilogy, and fringe Wiiware games. I still ignored the Genesis though.

I've been working my way through the Castlevania and Megaman games. The PS1 is also a blind spot as I only had an N64 at the time.

I kept going back to older areas in Metroid Samus returns thinking I had missed something based on my experiences with other metroid games. No, the game is actually simpler then I initially thought. I agree, the second half is a great game. First half is a meh game.

RE4 is one of my favorite games but i do think there is something about letting a game rest for a bit.

We never thought we would see the disney nes games and they made it back. They didnt have to deal with music rights though.

It's funny I did the same thing with Metal Gear. I totally think MGS4 is worth playing. I haven't played 5 yet though. I think it's important to experience the story as initially was given to fans and not in order chronologically. I think the correct order is to watch star wars IV, V, VI before I, II, III.

It makes you wonder how many other games Nintendo has done this too and we never saw.

I hope Retro studios previous game is done...and not canceled as well.

I haven't played a pokemon since Ruby. I remember being frustrated that I couldn't bring over my pokemon from my original red game (then years later to my horror my crystal game lost its save due to battery dying). I had probably 30+ pokemon who were > level 90. So yea i guess it is a game about grinding lol

I'm open to playing a new pokemon. I almost got X and Y when it came out due to having some of the originals. I'll probably buy Lets go pikachu and maybe the next one if it looks good for switch.

about 90% of the time I always just skipped now playing. just because i'm usually going to sleep when I'm listening.

Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door was one of my favorite games on the GCN. I basically blew through it in one week. However years later, I tried playing it and got really frustrated by the BS there is towards the end.

So I kinda see where Guillaume is coming from. Pikmin 3 is like one of those special games that only comes around a few times in a lifetime and you killed it....for squirt guns

I'm not worried about spoilers. I should have probably clarified that in the email. I will go back and try to get to 500 after hearing your guys discussion. I got to 250 and then got to the boss rush. I was like, "I'm done." I'm glad to hear there is still some meat on the bones.

I'm still chipping away at Xenoblade for Wii as well which I should have finished 6 months ago haha. I'll pull a Jon and just buy Xenoblade II to sit on my shelf. It'll look good there.

I hate that I couldn't make it to the live retro-active due to work. However I really enjoyed the episode. I remember really liking sunshine, but becoming frustrated at it at the same time. When I started college I replayed both the N64 game and the gamecube game in like 2007. I was like oh yea Super Mario 64 holds up a lot better. A few months back I did all the stars for 64 with the help of a guide. I would never consider doing that for sunshine unless it was remade/retooled.

22
Maybe getting to play the app in the background is the privilege we get to pay for.

23
I have on three separate occasions bought the same game twice.

I bought Darksiders 2 on Xbox 360 twice. Once at gamestop and another time at a pawnshop (haven't played the first one and it bothers me I have the first one on PS3)
I bought MGS Revengeance both on PS3 and Xbox360 w/o realizing it.
Lastly, I bought Infamous 2 twice. The 2nd time I was like yea you know what I really liked the first one. I bought it and was really happy all the way home. When I went to put it on the shelf, I realized it was already there (still haven't played it)

I have a problem. Although I don't enjoy going to game stores anymore because I own all the games I could possibly want for systems I currently play besides a few notable gamecube releases that are super expensive now. Most of the games from last gen are super cheap currently and that was how they were gotten. I have been tempted to start buying games for N64 or older >________>

I don't believe Donkey Kong Country used the Super FX chip, so that's why we have seen it re-released on virtual console (I don't believe we ever found out why the games disappeared for a few years on the Wii Virtual console?)

I want to share my Switch out in the wild story. Recently I had a family member in the hospital and had a lot of family members with older children around in the waiting room. Well there are two 60+ inch televisions there, so I had the bright idea to bring my switch and load puyo puyo tetris and mario kart on it (I don't have a pro controller, so everyone just played with Joycons). I had a lot of people stop including nurses to ask about the system. One nurse said her kid wanted one, but she wasn't sure if she was going to buy it for them. I took the system out the dock and handed the tablet w/o the controllers attached. When I attached the controllers and showed you can play the same game and then immediately snapped it right back in the dock, they just went "Oh I want one of these." I had multiple family members say they wanted one after seeing the system which reminded me of the Wii era.

Lastly, Earthbound????
