TalkBack / RE:REVIEWS: Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution
« on: November 20, 2007, 05:20:30 AM »
The Clash of Ninja video game series in the U.S. ... ... A bittersweet story...

It started out well. Clash of Ninja and Clash of Ninja 2 were released on March 7, 2006 and September 26, 2006 respectively, following up the U.S. Naruto anime to where they were at those times. The first Clash, although quite simple and only containing 10 playable characters, was a still good overall introduction this games series and to the world of Naruto. The boring and repetetive six-month gap was finally broken with Clash of Ninja 2, which felt exponentially better than the first, containing 23 playable characters and the first 4-player mode in the series, just to name a few.

But all of it was suddenly cut short with the appearance of Nintendo's Wii console in November 2006. It seemed to have come from nowhere, as it was not very outwardly advertised all year, or the year before. Few would be able to accurately predict what dark times would befall the Clash of Ninja series next...

In February 2007, Japan released its Naruto Shippuden: Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX for the Wii in tribute to the premiere of the anime of Naruto Shippuden. D3 Publisher, the company that distributes the Clash of Ninja and Ninja Council series in the U.S., came up with the "revolutionary" *cough, cough* idea to take EX and rebuild it into the next Clash of Ninja game. Sure enough, later in the month, and a second time in mid-March, the news appeared on this very website announcing that there would be a third Clash of Ninja game, but it would not be for the GameCube and would be for the Wii instead...

This immediately sparked controversial outcries from many fans, hoping that Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3 and 4 would also be released in the U.S. . Several wrote to D3 Publisher trying to express their opinion and asking whether they would still be released in North America, but of to no avail. D3 only replied in subtle responses, cliffhangers, and cryptic messages, giving a sense of false hope and insincerity...

The months of 2007 dragged on, and more media and information was only appearing for the proposed game, Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution (formerly known earlier in the year by the working title, Naruto: Clash of Ninja MVZ). No public word from official sources ever came out concerning possibly bringing Clash of Ninja 3 to the U.S. . It was final when on October 23, 2007, only Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution was released.

This issue could very well be deemed as the worst anomaly of all the Naruto video games ever released in the U.S. . The entire Naruto fan community has both gained, and lost something this Autumn of 2007...

Don't forget about Naruto: Clash of Ninja 3 and 4. I read in an earlier article right in Nintendo World Report that Naruto: Ninja Council 3 is only the first of three Naruto games to be released in 2007 for Nintendo gaming systems, another being what is now called Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution (formerly called Naruto: Clash of Ninja MVZ) for the Wii. Guess what the third one might be; I can't see it as anything else besides an English port of Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Tasien 3.

... Do you mean some consumers are still buying GameCube games? Personally, I don't think the GameCube will really be "dead" until by the end of 2008.

*sighs* Look, I actually have no problem with this game coming out. In fact, I think I might even have fun trying it, you know, with the Wii remote and all. It's just that I wish they'd still release the original Taisen 3 and 4 here.

Alright, I think I'm out of here for now, as to make sure anything doesn't cause any more "damage". I would've gone into a whole bunch of reasons why I think GNT3 and 4 should be brought to the U.S., and even why I think they should be for the 'Cube, not really the Wii (note: I'm actually still just as annoyed as I ever was), but it seems nothing I say or do is gonna make a difference. All I can do at this point is just hope that Tomy, D3, and our game stores come to their senses...

I got it! I finally got a Taisen 4 and a Freeloader! I'm so glad now that I have one of the best GameCube games there ever is/was for myself!

And to think all the trouble this put me through. I was forced to buy a Wii, but after learning about this and how we might no longer be getting the original Taisen 3 and 4 here, I saw no need for it. And when I tried to return it to them, since I already opened it, they said they could only give me $150 worth of store credit. I lost more than $100 on that deal... but I'm not gonna make that same mistake again...

I actually read in an interview somewhere where they never said no to bringing the other GameCube titeles here, but that depends on whether our game stores will still stock 'Cube games. As that currently does not seem very likely, they're trying to focus on Nintendo's next system. So maybe it's not really the fault of Tomy and D3, it's our retailers. They probably think that nobody's buying 'Cube games as much anymore, and it'll cost them more to try to restock on them.

There has to be a way to get in touch with Tomy and D3; I can't be the only out there who's very displeased.

The Taisen series never gets old, especially Taisen 4, which really kicks ass, lol! If I had it, I could play it all the time. I think it's probably even better than Smash Bros. Melee.

Does anyone here know where I can order a Freeloader and GNT4 by just money order? play-asia.com doesn't currently accept them, and even on ebay, you have to give some credit card information when starting up an account. My folks won't approve, but they do kind of have a point, you know, with all the identity theft, etc. going on...

Anyway, I do have a Wii now, and even though they were thought to be put on the Wii, I was happy enough when it seemed they were going to bring GNT3 and 4 here. But I've looked around on a handful of other sites, and it seems more and more like GNT EX.

... I think I've just about lost all, if not, most of my hope and trust for Tomy and D3. Skipping GNT3 and 4? ... They've gone way too far. I'm now even thinking of returning my Wii (as I just bought it on Monday the 12th). I might as well get a Freeloader and skip ahead to GNT4...

... Yeah, CON2 has 23 characters, so this game having only 14 doesn't make sense. I hope they meant to say 14 new characters.

So is this game supposed to be Naruto: Clash of Ninja 3? I hope they're not trying skip GNT3 and 4, or else fans here are gonna miss a lot.  It's way too early to make CON: EX, as Naruto: Shippuden hasn't started here in North America yet. ... Naruto: Clash of Ninja MVZ; what is MVZ supposed to stand for anyway?

And just who is this News Posting Robot in the first place? Is it really a machine?

Ever since CON came out, I decided I wanted to collect all of the Naruto: Clash of Ninja series. Now, even if 3 and 4 are only going to the Wii, I will still keep to that goal.

Besides, I heard of something that will be free to download now. But after June 2007, it will cost 500 Wii points.

Oops. Unless you mean it makes more money. Than that's different.

Yeah, like mercenaries. Doing simply what they're told, not asking more about what it is or if it's right or wrong.

Still, it's just not fair to the original Japanese series, and to those who don't have a Wii (at least, not yet). Money doesn't grow on trees, you know, and the Wii will probably still be more than $200 even by the end of this year.

As of now, only time can truly tell, though it does look like there might only be a Wii version, which is sad. Maybe trying to get a Wii isn't such a bad idea.

Speaking of money, can the Wii really print out its own? I thought something like that would have to be illegal.

Pale, is there an article somewhere about E3's statement? And blackfootsteps, are you certain that it will have at least a GC controller option? It can be easy to say anything here, but I can not and will not believe anything unless I have the actual proof, or official word as we draw nearer to its release.

*sighs and shakes his head in disgust* They think they're being so innovative for the English versions now by putting it on the Wii and adding Wii remote mini-games. If they're not making still a GC version, in my views, they're making a big mistake.

Yeah, that's exactly one of my points. I totally agree with you, Bloodworth. GNT3 is the only one in the series I haven't seen in abundance, but I've played GNT4 quite a few times by now, and even just judging by the controls, the series, at least the first four of them, are really meant for the GameCube.

I "pray" for those at Eighting, Tomy, and D3 Publisher; they know not what they are doing. And perhaps Cartoon Network and Toonami are to blame as well. I think it's taking way too long to see all of these new episodes just once each week.

Then again, it's still early on, and these could just be the preliminary reports. You shouldn't believe everything you read or hear. I'll await for more information. Otherwise, if it's confirmed that it'll only be for the Wii, then f it. I'm finding a Freeloader, and skipping ahead to GNT4.

... ... ... What do you mean? From what I've seen, of course stores here must still stock some some GC games. I don't think the 'Cube is that old yet, or at least, shouldn't be considered that old already. For a comparison, I know they must've stopped making N64 games by now, but 'Cube games are, or should still be, on. In my opinion, they might even make more money if they release it for both systems. I don't suppose I'm the only 'Cube owner who doesn't plan on getting a Wii anytime soon.

Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How could they do this!!!??? It's already bad enough that it took three years for the first and second ones to get here in English for GameCube, but why, oh why, do they have to make it solely for the Wii!!!???

I have CON and CON2, and wanted to collect all four of them for the 'Cube, and I actually don't really mind if they release it for the Wii, as long as they also have a GameCube version, like they did with Zelda: Twilight Princess. But probably many fans, especially those who are still only GameCube owners, are going to be so dissappointed if it'll only be for the Wii. . They just ruined the whole series! I've been waiting for even a preliminary release date for months, (and I could've used valuable experience from CON 3 {I lost in a Naruto video game tournament to someone playing as Choji, who only first appears in 3}), then all of a sudden they give us this b.s.

If I had some way of contacting them, I'd give the folks at Eighting, Tomy, and D3 Publisher a piece of my mind!
