The Switch has a lot of scrolling shooters, and it's landing a giant of the genre this month.

Developers Treasure are teaming with Nicalis to bring Ikaruga to the eShop on May 29 for US$14.99. The game previously hit Nintendo platforms with a 2003 GameCube release.

The core gameplay of Ikaruga involves switching the polarity of the titular ship to absorb bullets.

I played this when it originally came out and liked it. I had considered re-buying it later, but the GameCube copy was crazy expensive

I rented this when I first got my Gamecube and it was hard to find after that. After all these years...

Didn't Treasure go under? Happy to see them still putting something out, and always wanted to try this game.

I bought it, maybe 10 years ago, for $40.00 and thought I lucked out getting it at a good price but this is even better. Still have yet to even try the game though. I was really falling out of gaming at the time and just buying games for the sake of trying to have a collection of the best hits for a system. Now I play more games again but just don't have much time to get to them all. Maybe someday, right? ;)

Think that's where I got stuck at too. Never did unlock unlimited continues either.

Over the past 17 years I never even got past level 3 haha.

Fortunately, the cube version gave me unlimited continues.  I do hope they include a 2x slower practice mode (or even better a 2x, 3x, and 1.5x). They inexplicably removed this extremely helpful training tool from future ports/versions.

They're still around, but not very active. They've made 3 games in in the last 7 years (Bangai-O HD: Missle Fury for Xbox 360 in May 2011, Gaist Crusher for 3DS in December 2013, and Gaist Crusher God for 3DS in September 2014).

I thought Treasure was retired or semi-retired.
