Netflix has the New Spiderverse, and will be getting the Mario Movie next month. Saves me needing to get a Peacock sub anytime soon.

While I have converted to digital for all future purchases and been that way for a while, I would never buy a digital-only console if I had the choice. My nephew loaned me a copy of Pokemon Arceus and that couldn't happen if I was exclusively digital.

I'm glad it is late next year, my job situation has been rough and may finally be settling down so that will buy enough time to save and plan for a big purchase like that.

Wife and I watched Fall of House Usher. Was a very fascinating ride. Not the most "scary", more of an intense suspenseful mystery. We liked looking for the hints for each person's inevitable death.

We watched House Hill and House Bly before. Of them all Usher feels the most satisfying. Hill House the ending felt a bit too "happy" for a horror show unless you subscribe to the dark ending theory.

Bly felt a bit too drawn out, Usher seemed to get the ending good with answering all the questions, keeping the "not perfect happy ending" and knowing when to end things.

We'll check out Midnight Club since we missed that one. Despite my minor complaints with the various shows, they are all fun rides worth going through at least once.

My wife went to the Stranger Things event with her sisters. They had fun. This could be a great idea if executed properly. My wife re-watched the series leading up to going so there is a lot of potential to capitalize on interest in their big shows.

7. Ant-Man and the Wasp (and Stature for that matter) all keep taking their helmets off when they talk. Did they do that in the first two?

I notice this in Star Wars too. Maybe its an actor thing, maybe a director thing. Everyone with a helmet takes it off for any conversations longer then three words. I wonder if there is a belief that viewers need to see faces to better understand and enjoy a scene. Or studios are dicks and try to pay actors lower rates like they tried to pull on Pedro Pascal in Mandalorian, so actors guilds could be requiring a certain amount of face-time for actors with helmets.

I was about to make a snarky comparison to a certain "food documentary" director who most likely faked their numbers and refused to release their food logs, then when pressure increase he claimed they were all lost in a fire...but you posted the spreadsheet!

If I include all of the free games I've gotten on Steam and Epic Game Store I would probably be in the thousands. I like to say my backlog is my "retirement entertainment plan". Some folks wither away with nothing to do when they retire. Not so for me!

I might make a version of this sheet for myself in the future. But not nearly as intricate. Would be fun to chronicle my backlogging journey.

I'll bet you it is a less massive mess similar to Goldeneye on the N64 in terms of licensing. Considering Nintendo funded and oversaw the development I'll bet they have copies of the source code. Our best shot at getting a re-release of it is if they ever do a Gamecube Switch Online service add on.

I'm super glad I snagged it and Beyond Good and Evil for Gamecube right before I got a Wii. Twin Snakes was one of the rare two disc games on that system.

I wonder if this is a sign that MK9 will be coming? They have been doing a great job adding things to 8, and I was kind of hoping for more, but a brand new game has been long overdue.

Guess it is a blessing in disguise that I am jobless and broke. I wa splanning to buy the TotK Switch and can't now. So by the time I have the cash to splurge on a new console Switch 2 may be coming.

I was surprised to see this happening, since it didn't have a PC version, and am glad it is! I hope this one also has online multiplayer since it was a real laugh riot.

Considering the port of Turok 2 for Switch did not include the multiplayer (unless it was patched in and I missed it)
I guess you did miss it, because Turok 2 does have multiplayer on Switch now. I'm not sure when it was updated, but I played quite a few online matches when it was populated, which unfortunately was short-lived. But fun while it lasted!

That's wonderful to hear! I may jump on the Turok 3 train then to relive some of my classic N64 FPS memories.

Just a warning that while this studio does a great job remastering old games, especially N64 games, they dropped the Turok 2 multiplayer mode on Switch. So if you really want that wait to hear from reviewers or buy it on PC and use your game controllers for the full game.

@Shaymin just a heads up that you mentioning it is the third in a series of "single player first person shooters" may be misleading to some folks. The first had no multiplayer, but the second and third had full multiplayer modes alongside the story content in the N64 originals. Considering the port of Turok 2 for Switch did not include the multiplayer (unless it was patched in and I missed it) I feel it is important that readers know the differences.

I can't find the Star Wars show thread I thought we had so I'll post here. Ahsoka is pretty good so far. I view it as a sort of "last chance" for Star Wars for me personally. I haven't really been enjoying the newer shows other than occasional highlights, and despite the amazing performance of Andor everything else feels lacking. Mando started decent, went stronger, then dropped off the deep end. Boba Fett was a disappointing mess, and Kenobi and even bigger mess. So if Ahsoka doesn't pull me back in I'll be taking a back seat on future stuff besides Andor S2. Not a boycott or anything, just not making them a priority or worrying about spoilers.

I also view it as a sort of "last chance" for Ahsoka herself. A lot of people feel she should not have survived Order 66 or even Rebels. her fight with Vader in Rebels would have been a very poetic and tragic ending for her. I have been holding judgement because anyone can stick around so long as they make it worthwhile. Maul has a ridiculous survival but he became an amazing character so I've overlooked the survival because of this. He served a great purpose and had a very compelling arc.

Ahsoka has yet to actually DO anything of any real merit or substance since the duel she survived through miraculous means. This show is her chance to prove she deserved to stick around and do something more.

My only real complaint that is more than a nitpick (but not a deal breaker) is how yet another main character survives a stab wound to the chest with a very deadly laser sword. It seems to be a trope of the franchise at this point. Losing an arm or a leg like Anakin and Luke did I can understand. But a stab though a place where critical organs are just seems odd.

Aside from that my nitpicks are legacy character looking or acting differently than they did before. Sabine is just too angst-y, Ahsoka a bit too stoic, Hera just looks off. But that doesn't ruin things for me and I can just ignore it for the sake of an enjoyable story.

I understand this reference. Sad that it had to happen but looks like the instigators are getting (and got through an ass whooping) what was coming for them.

Was curious and found my old account here. April 26, 2003, though I lurked sans-account for years before. But I fell back into being a lurker and when I decided to participate again I figured a new name was needed.

Thinking about it actually that wasn't why I did a new name. I had an account on Gametrailers.com (I think that was the name?) by my old username (SatansNemesis) and you could get ad money from uploading videos there. Daisy Pro 666 used to make some sweet videos on their personal site and I was a fan of them. One day I saw their site was down and I had copies of some of them and figured I would upload them so others could enjoy them still as I assumed that they were gone forever like a lot of things went back in the more wild days of online.

Well being young, naive, and clueless I didn't think to de-monetize the videos (not even sure that was a thing there). I did credit the original author and mentioned the site was down but some time later they were pulled for infringement or something by Pro (same username). I checked their site and saw it was back up so guess it was a temporary outage. I was so ashamed (and honestly, never made more than 25 cents on all my videos because their payouts were awful and I never did upload much). So when I saw Pro was active here I felt I needed to rebrand to just avoid them calling me out on it.

Kind of silly in hindsight, but I much prefer Stratos over SatansNemesis and Pro doesn't even come here anymore so its funny to reflect on it. It is nice to remember the good times here, even if many of us have drifted away or post much less than usual.

Looks like I "rebranded" in January 25, 2009.

Technically the account still exists, so it CAN still hit 20 years of existing.

That's a thing now? Feels like something that would be better in an "extreme hardcore" mode.

I have it pre-ordered thanks to the voucher program, from $100 shop cards I bought at Costco for $80. Other game I got was Advance Wars. So saved $50 from retail price. Pro tip for those worried about the $70 price tag.

I still need to beat Breath of the Wild. Not made any progress since months ago when I mentioned I wanted to try to complete as much as possible. I actually gave my game away planning to rebuy on digital during a good sale and there hasn't been a good enough sale for me...so...yeah, I'll have to cave and buy it to complete (never beat the boss once), or just watch the ending on youtube.

Critics have lost their souls is my theory. Mario Movie is brilliant fun and a good time for like 90% of people. I was going to go see it with a friend and he was dissuaded due to the initial negative reviews. Thankfully he changed his mind and enjoyed it just as much if not more so than me.

I'd give it a 9/10. One point dinged for lack of Waluigi and Wario  ;D

Been trying to play Advance Wars. Nice throwback and really scratches the itch that Wargroove could never quite itch. Though it is missing some of the more streamlined options that come in Wargroove or even modern Fire Emblem games (auto-turn end when all moves are exhausted, inability to skip the CO animations).

Yeah, looks neat, agree music is meh, but trailer music is rarely indicative of the final product. And why is BatMan a fascist? Did I miss something about that or were they trying to be funny because "LOL billionaire bad"?

47
I heard that this was originally supposed to close out Phase 4 and end on a cliffhanger with Scott and his daughter trapped, but after the schedule shuffle they made it the Phase 5 opener and it got a rewrite that hurt the film.

Feels like the ant-man films are in these weird spots in the phases that hinder them being their own quality things in some way.

I'd love to see the other Game & Watch titles come. Its been my most played game on the service from the GB/GBA line so far. I had the first couple but none of the later ones so its familiar but new at the same time for me.

Also the GB James Bond game was one I never tried and was quite popular so hopefully since it was an original story without the likeness of any actors it could come as well.

49
Before I watched the trailer I thought this was going to be jacking the premise from the parody trailer from a long while ago.

Actually the Burton Schumacher anthology is actually something to look at for reboots. They kept on Alfred and Commisioner Gordon, and Robin for the second set, but the villains changed, even batman changed, and it really didn't matter. Not great movies, but the general public were a lot more capable of moving on with new casting at the time.

The general movie-going public absolutely can move on with new actors. That is how movies used to be done (and in a few cases still are). James Bond and Dr Who still make a bit of a deal about new actors taking on the mantle of the old. It was generally expected there would be changing of the guard when it came to actors. I think the dawn of the "franchise film series" with the likes of Lord of the Rings and especially Harry Potter where it grew to be expected that the actors would stick around. I remember the behind the scenes interviews for Potter had multiple creators of the series saying it was a pipe dream that the core actors would stick around and that still happened.

Now with major series like the MCU and Star Wars making such a deal of the actor equaling the character to the point they decided to never recast T'Challa or Princess Leia, they will back themselves into an awkward corner either requiring even more acrobatic multi-dimentional logic or pure reboots to allow certain stories to happen in the future.
