TalkBack / Re: Loss Drives EA to Increase Wii Support
« on: February 13, 2009, 04:48:25 AM »
Well we already know of Boom Blox 2, the Beatles game, Dead Space and a number of sports games.

I'm really hoping for Godfather 2.

What other games will they bring out? 50% is a lot.

All of my hopes for reviving my Goldeneye and Perfect Dark memories are shattered. :'(
I don't have as much fun with online games as I do with local games. Though maybe that's because I don't really have any online Wii-friends.

Though there is always hope for Red Steel 2 which I bet will be out this Christmas.

You guys may also want to consider upgrading to Amazon Prime if you order a lot of stuff them. That is what I have and it is great to have free 2 day shipping or for $4 more you can get it with overnight shipping.

Now that I think about it I do get a lot of stuff from Amazon. I've even considered getting food from them from time to time if the deal is good. I always dismissed it as too much, but I will re-evaluate it. Though I am fairly patient and have had little issue with shipping times from them.
Thanks for the pointer.

Great idea. **** execution.

What is Activision's problem with just releasing stuff as DLC?

More easy money off of disk sales.

DLC is the most profitable aspect of these games....

I'm willing to bet more people buy the disks than get DLC. GH more so than RB.
Plus I don't think DLC is as profitable as some would think. Not saying it isn't profitable, but it's not a golden goose either.

RE4 sold on the Wii for two reasons:

1) Budget price;
2) It's f*cking awesome.

Can't say the same for Dead Rising. The game is going to be full price, and the original game wasn't all that great.

Dead Rising is actually $40 not full price.
Ah, $40? That's...okay, that's still too expensive. RE4 was $30. Dead Rising should follow a similar model.

Amazon has it for $37. Automatic super saver shipping too.
I'm always hawking good deals on Amazon. $22 for Sam & Max and & $30 for The World Ends With You (brand new, think it was mislabeled since it went back up days later) were nice catches. Not from Marketplace sellers either.

I would like to play the Cross-Country with Rifle shooting game (forgot it's name).
Curling and Hockey would also rock. Curling on the old Nagano '98 Olympics N64 game became a staple at my house next to Mario Kart.

I just tapped the mic to activate overdrive. That's how my friends taught me to play it. I didn't know you could scream until I read this blog.

General Gaming / Re: World Tour Drum Kit & Guitar Coming Soon
« on: February 13, 2009, 12:15:53 AM »
My drums worked fine that I got w/ the kit for Christmas. Though one of the drumstick holders broke after someone played way too hard on them. :(

Though you'd think the Wii ones would be cheaper considering that they use the Wii remote for a lot of the controllers functions. Pity.

Nintendo's 'solution' is going to include SD cards in some fashion as I understand it.
Newegg.com sells it for pretty cheap (and free shipping at the moment) and I got a discount bundle on the site that included a nice SD to USB hookup for my computer since I didn't have one already.

How does "The Trooper" confirm covers?  I don't necessarily mind, I guess.  The Guitar Hero cover versions were my first exposure to several songs.

Because of how Iron Maiden recorded their songs.  They recorded the vocals and drums on the same track, making it impossible for Iron Maiden master tracks to be in FULL BAND games.  Unless they rerecorded it.  This is why "Run to the Hills" is a cover in RB and why we saw no Maiden in Guitar Hero: Metallica, despite the band pushing hard to get them in.

And there are ways to get songs on there that do not have the instruments on separate tracks. Harmonix is able to do it. It just takes a LOT of work.
Beatles didn't all have separate tracks on their songs and a game is being released of their stuff.

16012
I don't think that will be the whole setlist. Considering the last GH and RB both had 80+ songs I would guess (and hope) for a lot more. Especially since they were already made before for Guitar and Bass.
I would really like to see Black Magic Woman, Knights of Cydonia, Devil Went Down to Georgia, Rock You Like a Hurricane, Striken, Schools Out and Closer from GH3.

General Gaming / Re: Capcom announces Dead Rising 2
« on: February 12, 2009, 01:31:59 AM »
I think that they are waiting to see the performance of Dead Rising 1 on Wii before announcing the sequel. If it garners decent sales then they will go ahead with the sequel.

The sad thing is that there have been several quality games released by big companies that have flopped in regards to sales.
Okami, Zack and Wiki and Godfather are noteworthy ones.

I have a fear that these big releases for Wii like Tenchu, Deadly Creatures, HOTD and Dead Rising are all going to fail and if MadWorld and Conduit also falter then we can kiss a lot of possible games goodbye. I truly hope I'm wrong, but it could all crash quickly.

Just thought I'd share with you a neat trick I used to get a 4gb SD card to work with my Wii w/o modding or hacking. I now have plenty of room for RB and GH DLC among other Wii stuff.

Is it me or is the final boss ridiculously hard? I just can't keep from dieing.
I don't remember having this problem back in the day. In fact I seem to remember killing it in one try.

16016
Well I don't like the sound of this really.  Disc swapping for song lists will be annoying.

I wonder what the chances are of them letting us "install" songs to an SD card.

If Rock Band II (Wii) doesn't do it then fat chance also Activision wouldn't want you to import songs like Rock Band on PS3 and 360 does it. But this is just the ultimate definition of milking a franchise until it's only evaporated milk.

I'll get it. I was just thinking the other day that I would pay $20 for GH3 w/ full band support. Adding songs from 1 & 2 makes me even happier as I missed out on those. Though they have to include the Trogdor song from 2.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Theory: Tetris DS getting re-released?
« on: February 11, 2009, 05:13:06 PM »
I would imagine that the price would be higher than $8 considering it would be a full DS game for D/L

Isn't the full Brain Age game available or going to be available for download for just $5?

Is it? I didn't know. Then I guess they will keep them pretty cheap.

16018
And there have been a couple of times already that I had no idea where to go next and had to check GameFAQs.  The first was a case of needing to capture more Boos before I could proceed.  The second time, I had been down the well and got out of there without killing the ghost that would give me the next key.  I assumed that I didn't need to get him, since that type of ghost usually just drops hearts.

That's what my 10-year-old sister is for  :D . She and I are are playing through it together for this and she kept telling me to kill it and I was saying its just a regular ghost and ignored it. Then when she took her turn she kept going there trying to get it and when the key popped up I felt bad for not listening to her.

I also got stuck in the game and she had to remind me of the candles in the fortune tellers room where a key was hidden. She remembers this game better than I do :)

I agree that the level flow is rather off of the usual Nintendo beat. Was the developer different from other Mario games?

I don't think you can edit a character after he's created, EC. You can change facial hair or hair style, add tattoos, or whatever. But they don't have a "Plastic Surgeon" option in the character customization screen...

yet...

;)

Well the hair was my main concern. I went into one menu that gave me options to buy clothes and instruments, tattoos etc... but when i got to the hair options, it only let me pick from three styles; one bald, the one i currently had, and some hideous style.

Well, you could always create a new character, add him to your band and then remove the old one. It doesn't take long to earn enough money to buy the stuff you want. Especially when you are alreay pretty far in the World Tour.

I've actually been meaning to get the DS one for a while but it always falls at the wayside at the hands of bigger games... someday. Last I saw it was only $15 on Amazon. Maybe when I order Tenchu, Deadly Creatures or Fire Emblem.

So is anyone else hoping that the other Japan-only Fire Emblems get remade/re-released now either on VC or as DS/DSiWare remakes?

VC would be WIN!

The Japanese Wii VC has several FEs already. Those and the N64 Custom Robo are JP VC games I wish would come to the West.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Atlus announces Ys Book 1 and 2 legacy via email

34.99 but it comes with a soundtrack.

:P That's a bit much for me considering I just bought the VC edition. I might pick it up at a bargain price down the road.

And yet you think 40 is worth it for Chrono Trigger DS which is a out sourced port by TOSE(not questioning the game's quality just stating the obvious) with a crappy preorder bonus of a CD with 2 songs and a folded up poster. While Falcom remade their own game and think about it this way, In Japan Ys Book 1 and Ys Book 2 are their own seperate games and Atlus USA is going out of their way of combining both games into 1 DS game card without any degradation to quality and even giving it a premium packaging of a free soundtrack CD.

I didn't own Chrono Trigger before the DS version. I played it on ROMs or borrowed it from friends.
It was one of my favorite games I played but never owned.

Ys was just purchased by me a little bit ago. I've not even finished beating it. It was fun, but I wouldn't pay $35 for it even remade.

I've re-bought several games when they were remade/re-released -Ten years or more after having bought the original.

I don't re-buy games I bought a few months ago. I also don't typically pre-order games either unless there is enough of an incentive to do so (like the OoT Master Quest disk or the Rogue Squadron Arcade disk).

See Ian's post on Mercs (Mercs is awesome but 1 player only sucks), and LIT is a trial and error type of game with a lot of little frustrations with trial and error on top of that.

I'm actually enjoying LIT a lot. It's got trial and error, yes, but I still find it fun and challenging.
'Course, I grew up with a lot of trial and error games and games where there was twisted nonsensical logic involved so maybe I've acquired a taste for it. Plus it's only eight bucks.

Well folks, I really wanted to revisit this game with you. I've even located a reasonably-priced used Japanese Wii. But game rentals are a no-no in Japan, and they want 4,800 yen (!) for a used copy of Luigi Mansion. That's, like, $50. W. T. F.

Plenty of other games are reasonably priced at that store. Is this some sort of cult favorite out in Japan? It's the same freaking price I paid for the North American version new in 2001--and I still own that copy! OoooOooh, Weegie so sad!

Do they have something similar to the Action Replay in Japan you could use? Then you could use your US copy.
