Mafia V: Day Two
« on: June 01, 2006, 03:46:19 AM »
The gathering of the elected representatives produced the name Uncle Bob.

Uncle Bob, one of the Citizens who pioneered the new laws, understood the the gravity of his sacrifice.

"Very well," he said.  He stood and was escorted out of the meeting room with two security guards.  The fatal shot was fired in the antechamber and each of the voters felt the implications.  Uncle Bob was picked simply at random, but tonight the plan would truly enter into effect.

The young man remembered this as he lay in his bed trying to fall asleep.  He'd been resorting to medicinal help.  The old farmer had provided him tea, alcohol, pain killers.  Whatever it took to allow the man a restful night.  Still, the prospect of falling asleep was simply too frightening.  As vivid now as his memories were, the young mens nightmares were a terrifying manifestation that he simply could not escape.

He had few good memories of the time.  But there was the one day everyone had a moment of reprieve.  It was the day that Garnee, aka KURT was found dead.  He'd apparently been testing a new motion sensing weapons technology that he'd reverse engineered from the Confederation plant when one of the Confederation operatives snuck behind him and slit his throat.

There was always the hope, that they could kill each other off. . .

May the votes begin

Getting a post in right now because i'm about to go to sleep and might not be online again in time for the day closing.

I want to vote Stabby cause he looks suspicious, and he started the Unclebob bandwagon without a care in the world, but I think that every game and he always turns out innocent. :P

Remember, Stabby does suspicious things every game--thus far it's always just been that he doesn't care.  (Anyone remember the first game where he used to walk around the thread with a shotgun?) Also, I better take this opportunity to stress that I'm not defending Stabby--I have no idea if he's mafia or not.  So don't think we're in cahoots.

well, if anyone could tell me how to vote better on day 1 please let me know, but from what i can tell its all random.
For the first couple of days it pretty much is random.  (This is why I typically don't vote for the first couple days.)  You don't have much to go by, so you're left reading too far into people's posts and guessing at random.

After a couple days have passed, it gets easier to spot who's mafia.  If you notice patterns of people voting the same way then either (a) they're townies who had a MSN conversation and decided there who they thought was mafia or (b) they're mafia and are trying to vote out a townie (or a member of the other mafia).  It's even easier once a member of one of the mobs is dead.  Unfortunately for us, Garnee died before he voted, so his death isn't really helpful to us in finding out who else is siding with him.  However, if he had voted a couple times before he died, you could look back and see who voted with him.  It's not a perfect system, but it will generally at least give you a vague idea of who has a better chance of being mafia than someone else.

Depending on how much time you're willing to put into the game, you might benefit from going through old mafia threads and comparing how people post from one game to the next.  If in Mafia II someone was a townie and posted a lot and in Mafia III they were mafia and didn't post very much, it could give you insight to their role this game based on their current posting habits.  Obviously, this method isn't fool-proof because it could just be that the person was busy with outside activities during the second game or just wasn't as interested that time around.

When in doubt, take cues from the more experienced players (BlackNMild, Dasmos, IceCold, KnowsNothing, MysticGohan, Pale, ShyGuy, Stabby, SUPER, TVMan, TYP), keeping in mind that at least some of them are going to be mafia.

EDIT:  Hey Pryo, question: If the Emissary investigates a mafia leader, does he come up as a regular townie like in previous games or does he appear as mafia?

Don't forget that Stabby was mafia in the first game.

and as far as taking cues from everyone on that list,

I know everyone on that list has an MSN account except for TVman & IceCold. You can check profiles and see who has their contact info available though.

Oh no, why did you have to bring that up again? Your death was part of the game, no one was "out to get you", get over it

Wait, Stabby was mafia first game?  I must have a bad memory.

Nevermind; Stabby's probably Mafia.  But I'm sure as heck not going to start this bandwagon.

In fact, I don't have an msn, I don't believe in it. I only use aim, yahoo messenger, and the new myspace im.
But anyway, something will come up eventually, this thing is gonna get blown wiide open.

Also, I've learned from experience that neither Vudu nor BnM can be trusted.
TVman is dead. I killed him and took his posts.

MysticGohan either.  I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw him.  Same goes for Wandering (who missed sign-ups).

But then again, isn't that the point of this game?  Anyone who's mafia is clearly going to lie about it and do everything they can to get the townies to vote themselves off.  So it's not like you pinpoint any of this crap on me.  I'm sure you'd lie if you were mafia.  Wait, are you mafia?  Are you lying right now?

I don't have an MSN account.  I keep most of my convos to PMs when I play this.  I think it makes for a better experience.

I trusted vudu when I was a godfather and didn't trust BnM....  Biggest mistake EVAR!

I just remembered about the Defenders of the Keep--any three people who are voting together could also possibly be part of the Defendors of the Keep (Emissary & Deputy, also), so this system doesn't even really work very well in this game--just because certain people always vote together doesn't mean they're mafia.  This is going to be harder than I had originally thought.

Stuff it. No time for analysis. SirStabbalot claimed to not be mafia in the first thread, therefore, he's mafia.

Hah, my point was that he seems to be obviously saying it's good, meaning he is probably trying to distance himself from the Sony mafia, meaning he probably actually is sony mafia.  Either that or he's trying to make it sound like he didn't expect it, thus meaning he knew it was coming...

One of the two, either way, let's kill him.

Alright, I'd like to clear something up right now: The self-voting thing was to try and kick-start the voting. I wish to try to survive as long as I can this game.

And now for my defence:

I'm innocent!!1!

Really, there's nothing else for me to say.

Come one, people! I'm always over-agressive. You should know that by now.

EDIT: Stevey has a good point. VOTE SHYGUY.
