Nintendo Gaming / Re: Did "Dead Phoenix" become Kid Icarus: Uprising
« on: March 09, 2014, 01:14:04 AM »
I think Dead Phoenix was a spiritual successor (if not a direct one) to Legendary Wings for the NES (also, arcade).

In the NES game, your fifth most powerful attack transforms you into what looks like a bird on fire... kind of like a phoenix?

It's nothing mind-blowing, but the Gamepad was a great match for Little Inferno.

Ice Hockey is a lot of fun. It might be primitive, but it has the essentials for what you need to have a fun, pick up and play game.

I'd say it's just as fun as playing air hockey.

Dr. Mario 64, I think.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Are indie games the "New" 3rd party?

It's not like there isn't a wide variety of retail game quality.

We just know that Mario 3D World will be good and ignore "Petz" and "Barbie's Horse Adventure" are to be ignored.

I don't know what to think about an indie game called "Nihilumbra."

I am very excited for it. In fact, I already bought it and started playing it. :)

Because the story elements of Metroid are usually the elements gamers hate about Metroid: Other M.

Fixed.

I liked the story elements in other Metroid games... just not Other M.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Do you regret buying a Wii U?
« on: January 29, 2014, 11:52:31 AM »
No. I don't regret it at all.

I've really enjoyed what I've played of Pikmin 3, Mario 3D World, Rayman Legends and I've got 5 other retail games that I've yet to really dig into. Plus VC is better than the Wii (and Earthbound!) and other small games like Little Inferno were really fun.

Also, the future, when I get to play whatever comes out down the road.

I mostly play Nintendo consoles. I've never played the story centric Mass Effect series, so I'm definitely not going to start on the 3rd version. I'd have considered getting the trilogy.

I did get Need For Speed: Most Wanted U...

Hard to narrow it down to one. Here's some games that I've played through many times and still am not sick of:

Original Legend of Zelda
Super Metroid
Resident Evil 4

I could also say Mega Man, Mega Man X and 2D Castlevania (PlayStation, GBA, DS) but there's not really ONE game that stands out from the rest in those series. Also, either SMB 3 or Super Mario World are kind of in that same catergory.

91
I want a traditional 2D Castlevania game. The last one to come out was Order of Ecclesia in 2008. Six years ago.

(I tried the demo for Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate and wasn't impressed.)

92
I'm currently playing Mario's Picross (3DS VC), Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS) and Rayman Legends (Wii U).

When my friend and I hang out, we've been playing Mario 3D World (Wii U) otherwise I'd have 100%ed that a long time ago.

After these games, I have many Wii U games I've yet to play through. I'd probably start with Pikmin 3.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: StreetPass Relay lowered to 3?
« on: January 16, 2014, 09:51:38 PM »
There are relay stations that I go to, where I often only get 2 or 3 streetpasses (the McDonalds near my gym).

I've also gone to a different McDonalds (that I'd never gone to) a month ago and only got 2 streetpasses.

(There are also other relay stations that I've gone to where I most often get 5 or 6 streetpasses.)

Some relay stations, I tend to get less.

I have a few theories why...

Theory 1: Relay Station holds the last six streetpasses, irregardless of whether they are repeats or not. So, if Robert McBurger works at McDonalds and brings his 3DS during his 9 hour shift, he gets 2 street passes per day. If that McDonalds doesn't have many customers with 3DSs, after 2 days, Robert might fill 4 out of the 6 available slots. Result: you only get 3 streetpasses: one from Robert and 2 from other customers.

Theory 2: The relay station only holds one streetpass from each 3DS, but you can only access streetpasses since your last visit. Theoretically, a new streetpass relay would always give you 6 streetpasses. However, if only 3 more people streetpass that relay station since your last visit, the next time you go there, you only get 3 streetpasses; You don't receive the older streetpass data that you already got on your last visit.

Theory 3: It works in some other way. Nintendo never really explained how exactly their relay stations hold and send their data. I don't really have any reliable way of testing out either of these theories with definitive results.

Another good argument (for Nintendo's case) is the 2DS. See? You don't NEED 3D for the games. Maybe people are buying most of the games to play them on the 2DS?

I've got a backlog of games to play right now. If I run out of things to play, I'll pick it up at full price... or if it goes on sale again, I'll snag it up.

I ordered a $50 card from Best Buy for $40 so I could get Duck Tales (and eventually other stuff).

It seems Duck Tales is no longer on sale. :( That was short lived.

The SNES one is pretty dated. The graphics, though pretty cool for their time, don't look that good any more. There wasn't voice acting, so you had to read what people were telling you while dodging/shooting. It was pretty amazing for its time, though.

The N64 one is pretty much the same game, but with graphics that are good enough that you can tell what's happening (better draw distance and frame rate) and voice acting. I recall the story was pretty similar in both. And the RUMBLE PAK!

I just started playing my copy (received for Christmas). It's really a damn fine game. I've never owned a Rayman game before, but my initial impressions lead me to believe this game could be better than any of the 2D "New" Mario games.
