That is the game, though, right?  It has been leaked, and all Dojo characters make up the starting roster!  Thanks, stevey!

Is he going to be hidden? If so, why?

I don't see Sonic or Snake.. so they're unlockable?

pap: In honor of the original 64 game (along with Ness, Luigi and Jigglypuff).

IceCold: Yes, all 3rd parties are unlockable.

They are hidden characters. A scan re-confirmed that third party characters would be hidden due to their guest status.

I guess the rumors of hidden characters in the original remaining hidden for this one are true. Jiggly, Luigi, Ness and the Cap. all got the same treatment.

One other thing; I think this might be it for character reveals at the Dojo.

I mean, all of these characters are on the Dojo. If the rest of the roster is secret then character reveals might be over...

I knew it, now just give this guy one day to unlock a few characters and stages, and we'll never need the dojo again. Though I will read it any way cause I love to read what Sakurai has to say.

I told you goons that if any character was once a hidden character in either game it would be the same way in brawl! I knew it!

There seems to be no reason for where the characters are placed on that screen, unless the rule was to make sure characters from the same series aren't together. Also makes me think that one of the Kirby characters probably should have been an unlockable.

I'll be cautious for now. Call me paranoid, but people will go to great lenghts just to get some lulz.

Also, I have the feeling the guy could be a jerk and don't reveal the rest of the roster.

EDIT: I checked the sources and it is safe, so there's no reason to worry.

Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: NWR_insanolord on January 21, 2008, 07:50:47 PM
Without seeing the actual borders of the screen it would be tough to tell. I can see how it would extend to 30, by filling out the third row and adding one on either end of each row, but I don't know where it would go from there. I guess probably into a fourth row, but I can't see if there's space for that.
Title: RE:The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: GoldenPhoenix on January 21, 2008, 07:54:47 PM
I really hope it has more than 30, heck I believe Melee had 25 (then again a few of those were clones).
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: NWR_insanolord on January 21, 2008, 08:06:06 PM
There is no way it's only 30. I'd be fine if it were 35 and all the characters were unique and balanced as much as possible, but 30 just isn't enough.
Title: RE:The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: GoldenPhoenix on January 21, 2008, 09:12:37 PM
Well there is a roster that has been taking hold and looks like it may very well be the final one. Personally I think it is extremely disappointing but here it is.

This is supposedly based off a collection of "legit" sources

Yes it is a mockup but many are coming to the conclusion that it is.
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: NWR_insanolord on January 21, 2008, 09:39:30 PM
I doubt that roster for a number of reasons, but the inclusion of ROB is interesting. I haven't seen him on any of the lists, but we know that some playable characters start on the evil side at first and he was playable in Mario Kart DS.

EDIT: Now that I think of it, he could be what Game & Watch was to Melee, a somewhat obscure character from Nintendo's history that is the last character you get.
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: NWR_pap64 on January 21, 2008, 10:31:24 PM
Not to mention that if ROB is a character it would reveal that one icon on the Dojo.

But if that was it for the roster I wouldn't mind.

We already got Pit, Wario and Sonic after years of begging, we have three cool gimmick characters in Olimar, Pokemon Trainer and ZS Samus, the Kirby universe gets a better representation and even Snake could be fun to play as.

Not to mention that the veterans have been upgraded so they may play even better than before.

So really, how could you ask for more?

If we get even more, fine, but what we have right now is more than enough.

I can't believe that they'd include both Wolf and Falco over Krystal. I don't even know how they'd do two of those three Star Fox characters without them being clones.

That's the only thing I find iffy about the list.

Wolf I see them using due to a bigger villain presence in Brawl. But Falco over Krystal?

But hey, it wouldn't be SSB without weird character choices, eh?

Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: NWR_pap64 on January 22, 2008, 01:36:00 AM
I HATE to be acting all Pollyana in what could be a harsh reality, but the more I think about it the more the list is rubbing me off.

First off, EVERY single prophet has been saying that the final number is 35, myself included. Since 35 is a reasonable number of characters people could be running with it as being fact.

Second, the ROB mentioned is different in each list. Some claim that this ROB is ROB 64 from Starfox, while others say that its ROB the toy.

ROB 64 has already been debunked since you clearly see his trophy in the coin shooter game update, and ROB the toy is being used as a koopa like enemy. While they technically can make him into a character as well why would you take what is essentially a mild enemy and turn it into a certified Brawler? In that case we might as well make the Goombas playable too!

Finally, the fact that Krystal is not in the roster baffles me. Out of all the characters in the Starfox universe Krystal is both the most popular and most developed character. If you played Starfox Command you know what I am talking about. Not only that but her voice actress dropped the hint of her being in the game in her website. While she could just be voicing an AT or a cutscene in the SE mode why was it deleted the minute people paid attention to it?

So if you combine those facts it looks as if the list is questionable and might have been created in order to annoy and disappoint fans.

People have been throwing around that list a lot lately. Since its very believable who's to say that people saw it and ran away with it? What better way to prank people than with a disappointing but credible roster?

Once again, I HATE to act all optimistic about this since I KNOW the roster will be disappointing in some ways, but unless the screenshots are posted in the next 24 hours confirming it this list can still be considered BS.
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: Spak-Spang on January 22, 2008, 01:53:07 AM
Ok, why is 35 character reasonable, and 40 is not?

I personally, don't believe that list that GP linked to.  It just is too convenient with no surprises, and the formatting looks too much like they are trying to copy the look of the Brawl design and not doing it properly.  It just looks fan made.

Now, what is interesting is this supposed game leak.  This feels legit.  The character select screen shown is what you would expect...and I wouldn't be surprised if that character select screen actually already has some hidden characters unlocked.  Also, people asking how they will put additional characters in the game beyond the obvious spots...I believe that Melee actually shrank the icon boxes later when they added more characters.  I seem to remember that, but it might have been my imagination.

Also, by keeping some veterans unlocked it gives gamers more characters to have in the new challenger approaching battles, that are always enjoyable.

I think Krystal will show up in the game, because she would be a great random surprise character from Nintendo.  I do not see ROB as being playable sense he is already represented in the game in the adventure mode.

I hope if this leaker truly has the Smash Bros. Brawl game that he sets it up to play with 4 people and leaves for like 24 hours so we can unlock most characters soon.  If I remember how the Gamecube worked.  4 people and 24 hours would mean 96 hours of gameplay...that should unlock quite a few characters.

I don't understand why people think Krystal is more likely to be in the game then Falco.  Falco has been a part of the StarFox series since first game.  Krystal has been in the most recent two titles.  Falco has actually appeared in the Smash Bros series.  Why is Krystal more likely?
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: NWR_insanolord on January 22, 2008, 02:29:33 AM
Because Krystal is much easier to make a unique move set out of and would add another female character to the roster.

Like I already said, Krystal is a popular character among Starfox fans. Nintendo has given her a lot of attention in the recent Starfox games, with "Command" developing her love affair with Fox and probably Wolf. Krystal is pretty much a part of Fox like Zelda is a part of Link. Finally, she has some votes in the most requested list.

To me, Krystal represents the latest Starfox developments and since the SSB series is all about updating its characters it would be weird not to see Krystal in any shape or form.

Once again, I REALLY hate to act optimistic about this. The reason why is because this is shaping up A LOT like Melee; lots and lots of hype, lots of speculation all to be destroyed by a lineup reveal. It got to the point where I either dismissed the characters or try to look at it in a positive light.
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: UncleBob on January 22, 2008, 03:01:26 AM
I don't think the fact that she has votes in the requested list makes her more likely than Falco.  I mean, did any veteran fighters have votes on the requested list?

I'm not saying Krystal can't/won't be in there.  I'm just saying it seems like not good thinking to assume a list is wrong because it has a veteran fighter that's been around since the start of the series in 1993 and not a newcomer that was just introduced in 2002.
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: Bill Aurion on January 22, 2008, 03:21:34 AM
Well the list has Lucario, which replaces Mewtwo, soooo... =)

I'm still in denial over the list mainly for the fact that Wolf, Falco, and Fox seem REALLY redundant...I really can't see them NOT making a clone out of either of the two we have yet to see...
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: UncleBob on January 22, 2008, 03:30:35 AM
Like I said, I'm not saying Krystal can't/won't be in... just that I don't particularly agree with the idea that she's more likely than a veteran fighter with a more established history (game appearance wise).

I'm still sad there's no Captain N.
Title: RE:The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: GoldenPhoenix on January 22, 2008, 03:56:59 AM
Well we shall see! I do agree Falco, and Wolf seem like odd choices. At the moment I'm going to accept the list as real and then I can be prepared for the worse. BTW that pic is not "real" as in a game shot but a fanmade one by supposedly two respected "leakers" who gathered together the most respected sources.
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: NWR_insanolord on January 22, 2008, 04:21:53 AM
I think GP has the right idea, accept this as the list and be extra happy if and when they do better than that.

The reason why I'm leaning towards it being real is that on Neogaf (Yeah I was looking there) they seem to trust the source that leaked it, and let's face it the secret characters looks Sakurai-esque (Unfortunately).
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: anubis6789 on January 22, 2008, 04:54:30 AM
I am not sure what to believe right now, but I must ask: 3 STARFOX CHARACTERS?!?

Oh, if that is a mock up of the real final select screen why is Jigglypuff at the bottom of the Pokemon column when Marth and Ness are at the top of their respective franchise columns? She appeared in Smash Bros before either Lucario or PKMN Trainer, and she appeared in the Pokemon games before Lucario.
Title: RE:The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: Caterkiller on January 22, 2008, 05:06:01 AM
Well Anubis, supposedly it is a mock up of the actual roster. I just don't want to except it without Ridley...
And there are 14 secret characters, 9 of which are veteran fighters(im counting WW LINK as well) and 2 who we have known about for months and months now.

Now don't forget Sakurai said he wasn't going to get all hung up on secret characters this time around, but you would think someone like Olimar or King Dedede would be held out as a secret character instead. Aside from ROB there aren't any doozies at all.

And I can't completely except the roster since we had no new representatives from, F-Zero(Pico would be great as a villian) Metroid, or Zelda. Ridley is a popular character and no bigger than Samus in the Melee opening. I think since he is doubted so much, he would be a nice welcome surprise.

If you look at the screenshot of the starting group from the actual game you'll see that there's no rhyme or reason as to the placement of the characters on the select screen.

Post by: GoldenPhoenix on January 22, 2008, 05:38:13 AM
Well if that is the official roster, there better not be any clones! Also I find it odd that the Donkey Kong series doesn't have a villain to represent it while Kirby, Mario, and Star Fox all have enemies. I can understand why Metroid may not have it (Ridley would be hard to include) but why no King K. Rool?

Other questions that are starting to pop up in my head:

Why is Sheik in Zelda's portrait when ZSS is not in Smaus's?
- We have not seen Zelda's official character portrait yet.

Why can no one post a picture of the character select screen with one hidden character on it?
- There has to be an easy to get Jigglypuff (if she is not it) like character who would only take like 10 minutes to get.

Why only take a video of everything except actual gameplay?
- this dude has to have a table or tripod to set the camera on, and how hard would it have been to just tape a match?

I think it's BS.

1. He could've made this in Flash and grabbed all the sounds and images from the Dojo.

2. The video conveniently cuts out just before the battle.

3. The announcer doesn't say "Pit!"

4. The announcer does say "Fight!", but on the wrong screen (he should say this just before you battle, not on the "Stage 1" screen.

It's sort of weird how at NeoGAF you have two sources that are sort of at odds...

You have the one guy who's known for his Tekken leaks (the one who has revealed the rumour roster), and then you have the guy who knew that we'd be getting an update last week on the SSE power-ups saying that it's wrong...Both have a lot of posts and "ban-bets" riding on the issue, so it DOES make you wonder if an "incomplete" roster made the rounds...

It could still be legit.  He could have stopped posting because he is afraid of drawing too much attention.  A leak this big is probably a big deal, and could get him in serious trouble...lose his job, lawsuit, heck possibly even jail time.  Perhaps he did this to show he had it, and to be a dick, but he is still protecting himself some.

Well the Tekken guys roaster matches up with what other leakers have said including PORTRAITofRUIN.  PORTRAITofRUIN is someone who correctly leaked a lot of info on the Castlevania game Portrait of Ruin.  So the 35 character count is looking to be the most accurate one right now.

Plus I don't see why anyone has a problem with this list.  Yes 3 Star Fox characters is pushing it and Metroid should have had another character, but other then that it's a great list.  Kirby, Donkey Kong and Mother all have more representation which they didn't get in Melee.  They've added character from 6 new series which is already twice as many as Melee which only had 3 new series represented.  Plus there's the fact that it's looking very likely they'll be no clones either, which means Brawl has the biggest jump in new characters from any Smash Bros series.  The original had 12 characters, while Melee added 7 new and unique characters, while Brawl is looking to add 16 new and unique characters.

Yes it's dissapointing that Sakurai showed most of the Newcomers already and most of the unlockables look to be Veterans but when you add the entire roaster up, it's a very good one that has a lot of variety to it from a lot of different series that aren't Mario, Zelda and Pokemon like Melee had.

Yeah, but that's why it's weird...Why would this other guy be arguing it?  He clearly has more information than the average joe, so it makes you wonder if different rosters ran through the grape vine and one or the other got confused...

If you're going to question the video posted, you need to be fair, and evaluate the solid support it has, too.  For instance, many say it's a flash application, right?  How do you explain the cursor's constant speed when moving, and the direct corners it takes?  It's clearly receiving digital input, likely from the Wii-Remote.  It's likely that a flash application's cursor would be controlled at least by a mouse, or some form of analog input, unlike what we see in the video.

Of course, there's the fact that the earlier leaked picture was taken from a CRT, this leak is from a different kind of TV, so it's likely a different person.  However, both their rosters match up perfectly.  That's strangely coincidental if one of them is fake.

Anyways, there's more, but I forgot it.

The cursor could have been part of the animation itself, and the fact that the cursor moves so roboticly actual damages the credibility of the video more because the it makes it appear that all the cursor was doing was following a predetermined path.

As for what kind of TV is being used I believe that it is a CRT with a convex screen because I see what appears to be glare in the upper left of the screen and a curve on the right side. It could still be the same TV that the fist screen shot of the supposed character select screen.

If it is more than one person doing this, even if they are not connected, they could be continuing this solely for the , I cannot believe I am about to say this, lulz.

I believe no rosters till the game comes out or somebody rips off a strategy guide from a shipment.  Considering the source was Neogaf I wouldn't trust it even if I knew for a fact they had copies of the game.

Personally, I hope Krystal and Midna are not in it.  Damn furries.  Give us Sukapon instead.

I wholeheartedly agree.

This is EXACTLY the reason why I wanted spoilers posted everyone with CONCRETE proof. All of this speculating is ruining the game for me.

At this point, I don't care if the secret characters are lame or the best thing EVER, I just want to know what's in the game and be done and just wait to play it in March.

Ah, but ole Nostra didn't actually predict where or when they will happen, and the fact that WWII bit was a mistranslation, it was referring to a river not a person, ala Hitler. Given the fact that any person can make thousands of predictions at least a few is bound to come true.

However, I predicted Nintendo will be #1 once more, nearly a decade ago, OMG I got HAXZOR skillz! Woot!

Anyway, Where's Ganondorf? The three to be are yet complete!

Which is ironic, because it was a TV SHOW that developed his character to the point of massive popularity.

This proves further that the adventure mode will have some great character pairs!

Here's what I heard.

Supposedly the leaked video and roster are real. The person who posted them belongs to a Smash tourney community, and from what I read they were going to get an early copy of the game. So maybe the reason we haven't gotten spoilers is because they must have signed an NDA promising that while they could have the game they wouldn't be allowed to talk about it till after launch.

...That, or the leakers are massive douchebags.

How convenient, but if there was any kind of NDA it would probably cover all information regarding the game, not just specific parts (it is easier to have a broad cover then to have a pick-and-choose, specific set of criteria), so any info leaked would probably throw him into breach of contract (and if some guys on the internet can find out who the leaker is then you better believe that a multi-billion international corporation can).

This is of course disregarding the fact that a group of fans somehow got a copy more than a week early from Nintendo, who, to my knowledge, is in most cases extremely stingy with review copies, let alone copies for something of this nature.

I am sorry, I just do not find any of these leaks credible at all, least of which that video... oh, now videos. Yeah, that screen could not be faked at all (I am assuming that this is from the same guy, because the all knowing internet said that it was).

Well, none of this will matter in a few days anyway, cheers .

From the looks of things they might be tourney players. Not only did they pick the same characters they picked the basic level and barely used items.

Speaking of tourney players this comic pretty much nails how tourney players are like.

And you are correct sir.  The people that were playing in those video's are well known Japanese Smash Bros tournament players.

Even though it annoyed me that wouldn't play in any of the other stages except that one on Eldin Bridge the video's were really nice.  We finally got to really see King Dedede in action and he looks to be a great player.  Actually ALL the Kirby characters look to be really good in this game, which shouldn't be too surprising.  Since Sakurai is no longer a Nintendo employee I'm sure he doesn't care about being accused of playing favorites this time.

Oh and here's another video that finally shows Pokemon Trainer in action.  Charizard looks like a great character which is very nice to see.

Speaking of leaked lists IGN has paid attention to them and made a list of some of the more prominent characters.

They list Pokey, Black Shadow, Alice the balloon kid, Hector from Fire Emblem and R.O.B.

If Pokey's in the game as a playable character Sakurai will have gained a dangerous enemy in the form of a big, hairy Italian.

Black Shadow from F-Zero would make sense as he's the closest thing to a villain the F-Zero has ever had. Since Goroh is out of the question and Blood Falcon is an alternate color for Falcon Black Shadow is the next best thing.

In all honesty while I would welcome the Balloon Fighter (as he would add another franchise to the series as well as an unique fighter) I wouldn't want the fighter to be Alice. She just looks so weird...Plus, the original BF design is more classic and iconic. On the plus side, though, it would add a female character to the roster.

I never played any of the FE games (I only saw SB play Path of Radiance), but Hector would make for a nice addition. We got sword users and hammer users so having an axe user would be a nice change of pace.

Finally, even though it might be out of the question R.O.B could indeed be in the game as both an enemy and a playable character. First, Brawl doesn't have that "WTF" character like Mr. Game and Watch was in Melee so R.O.B could fill that position easily. Second, just like with Tingle and Petey Piranha Nintendo seems to have a fascination with this character. He may have nostalgia appeal but if I'm not mistaken only a couple of games used him and he was a slow and clunky peripheral. But despite that fans and Nintendo love the little guy so don't be all that surprised if he's in the final game.

Meh... my interest in ROB has more or less passed, personally. The nod in Star Fox 64 was cool, as was the cameo in F-Zero GX. Him being playable in the latest Mario Kart was a definite "WTF" choice... however, would it be so another time? In all honesty I liked him being obscure and kind of a "wink, wink" cameo type of character. I think his role as a enemy suits him better.

As for a sheer random character... hey, why not Jugger? Even better would be in his "dress" appearance.

Yeah, okay, so Jugger doesn't stand a chance in hell (although I will be quite sad if Advance Wars doesn't get a single playable representative, as the series has earned it). However, I don't think ROB is in, and Nintendo has a rich enough history that if he was going for an off the wall choice Sakurai has many, many options.

I agree with you about R.O.B, but like I said, Nintendo just loves the little guy and Sakurai might be crazy enough to make him both an enemy and a playable character.

So don't be too surprised if he somehow made it in...

It sorta looks like him.

If you can collect his trophy then that means he's out as a playable character (unless that since this is the demo they included his trophy as a collectible trophy for the hell of it).

I've been looking at it over and over and it looks like a Magi Koopa or a penguin from Galaxy to me.  But even if he is only a Trophy that would make me happy. If thats the case then there was defenitly talks with Square Enix, and Geno most likely wouldnt be the only thing we see from them.

Looks like R.O.B list might be the final roster...

Go Nintendo posted a shot of the character select screen with Marth unlocked. He is next to Pikachu, which is EXACTLY how the leakers said it would be...

So, we can kiss Megaman, AC character, Krystal, Ouendan, Ashley, Midna and K.Rool good-bye and hello to R.O.B...

Actually...Brawl central has pics of Luigi and Ness unlocked and the screens are different...In the first pic he is next to Pika, where Marth was.

In the second Ness is near Lucas and both Luigi and Marth are on the left side of the screen!

So are these fake or does the character select screen change around everytime you unlock a character?

I think it is safe to say we'll have a good idea if the R.O.B. roster is real or not come tomorrow.  Also, like Pap, I don't want to spoil the SSE, all I want is the character roster so I can either be:

A) Extremely disappointed and hope Sakurai chokes on a cookie and dies a painful death (Ok well maybe not that extreme! He can choke on a piece of cake as well)

B) Moderately happy with some characters I want like K. Rool and Krystal

C) Super duper happy because MEGA MAN is in it

Ehhe, that picture with Bomberman in it was proven to be fake from what I understand. Looks more and more like we are getting uninspired secret characters of doom roster. (But hey at least Ganondorf is in that crappy secret character roster, the ONLY one I care about)

This is interesting, a supposed real shot of characters unlocked so far versus this mockup from a couple days ago:
real? http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9917/brawlrosterhp8.jpg
mockup: http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w230/CLShortFuse/Brawl/fullroster.png

Could this be like last time where people didn't like the list so much that they believed it fake until release?  Also notice that with the proper inserts into the rows, that 'real' picture would look like the 'mockup' and would give an order to why characters are located where they are. I just wanted to throw my two cents in.  If the 'mockup' becomes real, I don't think I'll be disappointed, it's still A LOT of unique fighters this time around.

Stevey Great find.

There is room for 36 characters for those two rows....if they are completely filled.

So it looks like the roster will be either 35 or 36.

We also have a good idea then what the roster will be.  But, there could be a nice surprise with the 36 character.

So lets see what it looks like with speculated characters.

That list shows the unlocks of:
Luigi, Marth, Mr. Game & Watch, Captain Falcon, NESS

Who we know is also in the game is:
Ganondorf, Sonic, Snake, Peach, Zelda, Kirby, Meta Knight, Yoshi, Jigglypuff, Lucario, ROB,

That looks like there is 5 or 6 more unlockable characters.  I personally do not believe Wolf is a character, it makes no sense.  I do believe Mewtwo will still be in the game.  So that leaves some surprises possibly.

It definitely means he has only finished 59% of Subspace Emissary.  But look at the character lists.  I am pretty sure there will be a level to play for each character.

In fact when Sonic was revealed we saw him in the video going through a Subspace Emissary level...so we know at least a Sonic level is in.  So I am looking at those columns and noticing that 36 characters can fit in that space.  Why 36?  Sure it could mean that there is only 35 characters and that last space is because of the odd number.  Or it could mean 36 characters...and we don't know who all the other fighters will be.

I listed all the confirmed hidden characters (I think) and you notice that they were all pretty easily understandable characters to include.  (Basically every character from Melee will be in the game...except for a few clones.)  So then the other characters who are they is the question, and I don't completely believe that original 35 list.  Wolf just doesn't make sense...so I am hoping for a few surprises.

I can't believe what I'm hearing, but it looks like

Spoilers about characters I guess

Ganondorf is still a freaking clone of Captain Falcon? With his only difference being his cool final smash where he turns into Ganon. And I also heard Ness and Falco are clones as well. Brilliant job Sakurai, you have 3 years and can't make a small roster clone free?
Title: RE:The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: Spak-Spang on January 29, 2008, 04:35:27 AM
Golden:  I feel your pain about Ganondorf, but if I see Ness and Falco as quick additions...and characters that already had a definable playstyle in Melee...it would make sense to keep them clones, except perhaps add some sort of twist.

I think it would have been cool to add the twist of letting Falco glide or something.

Ganondorf being a clone sucks if it is true, but again, he had a defined play style, and we already have tons of sword fighters so why not let him be different...and he really didn't play that poorly in Melee...people just didn't like the concept of his move style not being original.

But if Falco is a clone...then why the hell would you have Wolf...wouldn't he be a clone as well.  This is why I don't totally believe that list floating around.  I believe it will be proven wrong, and Wolf will probably be replaced with Krystal or something...and I still believe Mewtwo will be in the game...but I will be glad if I am proven wrong.

Young Link will be nice, but again probably a clone, which is a shame, because he could of had some drastically different move set.

Hearing that Clones are still in I'm kind of pissed off that my two fav Melee characters are not coming back.

Looks like the only new characters I'll be playing as will be Sonic and maybe Pit. =/ Other then that Its pretty much just Melee characters (Link, Samus, Pikachu, Zelda and Bowser).

After all the months of hype I was expecting something big to have been hidden, someone that would have made me really excited. Instead all the exciting characters were announced at day 1 (with the exception of Sonic, but we all pretty much figured he was in) I guess it was to much to expect after the weeks of crappy updates to the Smash site.

Ganondorf had potential to be a super unique character by mixing magic with hand to hand. It is a travesty that Sakurai decided to make one of the most important villains in Nintendo history a clone once again with close to 3 years of development time. Don't even get me started if Falco and Ness are clones as well, because such a poor, shallow, lineup of secret characters should have at least merited some attention to their movesets.

I don't believe anyone said it was poorly designed. And what other reason would there be for clones in the game other than the game was rushed? Because if it wasn't rushed there wouldn't be clones, though I do not think the game was nearly as rushed out the door as Melee. It just makes me sick that they added so much other stuff to the game but couldn't make the whole roster (which is quite small) unique especially since this will probably be the last Sakurai Smash Brothers game.

Wow, just... wow. So here is my take on the Brawl roster, since the 35 seems set in stone pretty much:

Awesome roster, but crappy unlockables leading to major disappointment. Let's be fair, the starting roster is great, and Sonic and Snake are nice unlockables... but the rest? Most are veterans, while Lucario looks to, indeed, take Mewtwo's moveset. Ganondorf still being a clone is sad. I'm happy in a way, as I mained him, but he deserves his own unique moveset and they should have added someone like Black Shadow to carry the "heavy Falcon" mantel instead. Wind Waker Link is likely going to be Young Link reborn too, if Ganondorf is still a clone.

What I'm really disappointed at is what's left: Wolf and ROB? *sigh* I'm also disappointed at the sausage fest the game became with 35 characters, and only 3 being female. Really, I mean couldn't they have used Krystal instead of Wolf to help that ratio just a little?

EDIT: Oh, also, even though I didn't expect it at all... I still weep over no playable Advance Wars characters.
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: Sarail on January 29, 2008, 05:16:43 AM
I, too, am quite upset that Ganondorf is a clone character along with Ness and Falco.  Falco, IMO, shouldn't even be in the game to begin with, and Ness and Ganondorf should have had movesets unique to their style.  Don't even get me started on Marth...

It's looking more and more like Krystal isn't going to be playable either -- another HUGE loss for Sakurai as she would have made for a far more interesting Brawl fighter than most of the unlockables shown so far -- a bo staff-wielding furry with a few magical abilities.

Where's Ray 01, where's the AC playable fighter, and where's Isaac??!  All of these would make for far more interesting choices than the current set of "clones" that Sakurai has given in to using in Brawl.

The game is going to be great, don't get me wrong.  I'm sure it plays much better compared to Melee.  But the inclusion of clone characters once again, and the fact that the game is lacking more unique fighters other than Olimar, P.Trainer, and Solid Snake makes me quite sad.

Maybe we'll get downloadable characters via the WFC?
Title: RE:The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: GoldenPhoenix on January 29, 2008, 05:22:53 AM
It is funny, but I think I am most angry because the game was not rushed and yet they still have clones. The main excuse for Melee was that it was on a tight schedule and it was better to include clones than not have them at all, well you can't say that about Brawl which had all the time in the world to perfect a solid and diverse range of fighters along with a myriad of extras. Also I do agree the starting roster is great, but I am utterly disappointed that the secret characters are looking to be lazily implemented in order to bump up the character count, besides Sonic and Snake of course. Not to mention my 2nd favorite villain, Ganondorf is once again nothing more than a minor thought (At least Bowser will rock). Yeah I don't like the secret character cast, but I was willing to let it go if they were all unique, but now, I dunno. I can't imagine anyone really defending so many clones again.

After re-watching the intro again, It saddens me even more that the unlockables include Mr Game & Watch, R.O.B and Celda Link.

I really wish Midna and Ashley were in the game. They could have been really Cool.

Instead we got lame unlockables and REALLY lame trophies and stickers.

After seeing the remainder lineup and looking back at all the garbage that was put into Brawl, I actually don't feel at all bad that Sakurai is leaving Smash Bros. In fact I would be more then happy to help him clean out his desk.

Time to bring in someone who is more connected to the fans and cares more for the series.

Ouch, that is pretty harsh lol. You may have a point though, the series may need a new director to provide a fresh look for future iterations. Say what you want about Sakurai (And I have alot to say) he managed to craft a perfect fighting style, so a new director shouldn't have much trouble getting the foundations right.

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from, cap.

Midna + Wolf Link, Ray 01, Isaac, Micaiah, Jill from Drill Dozer, Krystal, Animal Crosser, Mega Man, Simon Belmont -- all of these would be MUCH greater additions than the unlockables seen already.

I'm a bit upset because of it, but I'm anticipating the game just as I always have.

Though, if a new Smash does get crafted in the future, maybe listening to the fans a little closer -- concerning character additions -- wouldn't be such a bad idea.  o_O

Too many great ideas passed up for clone characters like Falco and Marth.

Why is Marth getting lumped in here? He plays nothing like Ike and without Roy there is no one left who he is more or less a clone. He may look similar to Ike, but the two have very different play styles.

If you are upset about the roster in the game, and blame it on "lame unlockables and lame stickers," you are an insatiable idiot, and are doomed to be forever disappointed in real life.

Forget that you know nothing about the development cycle of the game, that 9 new characters have been added, that an entire single player experience was crafted from scratch, an entire online fixture is put into place, and that just about everything in the game has been overhauled.

You're upset because Marth is back.

Wow.

I knew at some point there was going to be an inevitable backlash against the game, but I damn sure didn't think it would be this early and from the fans who have been on baited hooks for the last 1.5 years awaiting what is going to be the biggest Wii - and Nintendo - game to date.

Yeah, because it is too much to expect a relatively small roster to have unique movesets, especially for some of the most important characters in Nintendo history like Ganondorf. It is such a stupid exclusion, people have a right to be a pit POed, especially since most of us care about the fighters, with other modes/extras as secondary. I was willing to accept the leaked roster with ROB but only if they were all unique and didn't look like a lazy attempt to bump up the fighter number in a game that has been anything BUT RUSHED.

You know, there are things I could be disappointed about.  But what I am really most upset about is how they presented the characters and who they chose to be unlockables and not.

If NESS was starting then Lucas would have been a cool surprise...even if he was a clone.
It makes me wish that the unlockables were never shown like Snake and Sonic.  I think it would have been a great round up if they did something smart like added: MetaKnight, Pit, Wario, Pokemon Trainer as the new starting characters and kept secret totally:

Sonic,
Snake,
King Dedede,
Ganondorf,
Olimar
ect..

Then the hidden character list would have appeared much stronger.

I must say, that I am not totally disappointed with clones...for instance I am really glad Toon Zelda is in the game no matter what.

What I am upset about is that the game is totally lacking female characters and ignoring the list of female characters they could of had great movesets.

It is obvious you aren't willing to debate things and instead resort to name calling, so this is my last response to you. See in game design there are priorities, and it is a shame that the priority of Brawl wasn't on the fighters first and the extras second. Especially for fighters that people, you know, CARE ABOUT like Ganondorf who is from a popular series called Zelda and is right up there with Bowser.  I kept hearing the excuse about Melee and its tight deadline and how they wanted make characters like Ganondorf unique, so what do they do after 3 years of development? Why let's make him a clone again! Wonder what the excuse will be this time?

Lmao.

MAYBE 1-2 other fighting games have rosters that big, and those might be Capcom vs SNK and Capcom vs Marvel.

Which is a HORRID argument for you to make, since almost every single Capcom character controls the same, since they all have hadokens now.

Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Guilty Gear, Street Fighter...none of them have CLOSE to 50 character rosters, and NONE of them do not have clone characters.  They all do it.  I'm willing to bet they don't even have 25 unique characters in their rosters, but I'll go ahead and make it clear that such an assumption is just that - an assumption, since I barely pay attention to those fighters.

You're the one crying about how the development cycle was so painfully long and the developers are lazy, when in reality you don't know a damn thing about it at all.  I don't know it any better than you, but I'm definitely not arrogant and ignorant enough to start whining about how Sakurai completely screwed everything up, even long before the game has been touched by my hands.

Give it up already.  It's so annoying to have to listen to this kind of thing all the time.  You could either get your dream roster and enjoy another 6 months of delays, or have the game sooner.  Which is ironic when I consider that so many people have been so angry about the first 2 delays, and yet want more things to be added into the game.

When did I cry about the development cycle being too long? In fact I supported the delays besides this last one which made no sense. In fact I believe I stated I'd support a long delay to touch up things. Heck I don't even recall saying the developers were lazy, just that the implementation of the fighters was not the priority it should have been and was, yes a lazy implementation, and that these secret characters appear to be dumped in again like they were in Melee. Please stop making stupid assumptions about me when it is obvious you have no idea what I did or did not support. Take a chill pill, and maybe have a civil debate.

Also believe it or not, but most normal fighters are more complex when it comes to the character move sets, much more than Smash Brothers has ever been. So that gives them much more flexibility than the limited movesets for Smash Characters. All I know is that they had 3 years to work on Smash Brothers Brawl with a solid foundation in Melee, and they still can't have 35 unique characters. That shows me that Sakurai didn't have his priorities in order and focused on other things instead of finishing the roster before he put his efforts into other modes.

So please stop with your ridiculous straw man arguments, none of us are saying Sakurai screwed up the game, but that he really let down many of us by not putting more of his time into fine tuning the fighters with unique movesets and maybe replacing some of the lame characters like ROB that no one wanted as a fighter. This is supposedly Sakurai's last game, is it too much to ask that he makes a unique cast of fighters?

I've been believing the roster for a while now, so the disappointment is long gone...Yeah I wish they didn't bring back Falco, and Wolf is the Pichu of Brawl, but I'm also pleased with Lucario and Toon Link...I'll live, and so will all of you... =)

Oh yeah, here's some unknown stages for everyone...

Mario stage - Mario Bros. Arcade
F-Zero stage - Port Town Aero Dive
Wind Waker stage - Tetra's Pirate Ship
Sonic stage - Green Hill Zone

I knew this was going to happen.  People are confusing what they think should be in the game with what is.  I'm a lot happier about a more fleshed out single player experience then worried that there are clones again.  The development time was longer but there is a hell of a lot more in this game then melee had.  From the looks of it Ness is a clone because he seems to only be a driving point in the SSE, he protects Lucas from becoming a trophy.  That's just my own speculation.  But everyone pissing and moaning about what they wanted in the game is really annoying.  Of course the game isn't going to have everything you want in it.  That's incredibly stupid.

The excuse will be that people learned how to play as the clones in Melee and the developers didn't want to completely change how the characters played. I'm not saying that it's a good excuse (it's not), but that's what it will be if they give one.

Do we know for sure Wolf is clone or not? Because maybe, just maybe, he'll turn out to be pretty darn unique.

Also i've been trying to read up on the returning clones, but since brawl central is shut down by all the angry smash goons I can't get any more info. When I compare Mario to Luigi, I don't see a clone, their animations and attacks are way different enough for me. When I see Lucas and Ness, their smash attack animations are completely different and their specials are different enough for me as well, I don't see clone there.

Now for Ganondorf and Falco, does anyone know for sure that they are just like they were in Melee? EXACTLY like Fox, and Falcon, just with different speed and stats? If there are different enough animations in them that are as varied from Ness to Lucas I could live with that. Anyone know anything?

Kind of like a Ganondorf with a unique moveset? I still fail to see how wanting a clone free cast is too much to ask. Seems like people are trying to rationalize once again about why it doesn't matter, except this time they can't fall back on "Oh the development cycle was too short, better than nothing". Fine I think it is fair to say you can't have everything you want but there is a point where you have to draw the line. I believe wanting unique movesets is a fair place to draw the line, heck I'm not even that disappointed in the characters themselves but I expected there to be no clones especially with the massive development team they had.

Let me first say that I understand that many of you are pretty passionate about this and I'm not completely without sympathy. But seriously, we are all looking at an incredible roster. If there is any complaint to be made at all, it would be that we were already told some of the best surprises.

Can you imagine what all of your responses would have been if the full roster had been leaked before we learned so much from the Smash Dojo?

Mario
Donkey Kong
Link
Samus/Zero suit Samus
Kirby
Fox
Pikachu
Marth
Mr. Game and Watch
Luigi
Diddy
Zelda/Shiek
Pit!
Metaknight!
Falco
Pokemon Trainer!
Ike!
Solid Snake!
Peach
Yoshi
Ganondorf
Ice Climbers
King Dedede!
Lucario!
Ness
Sonic the Hedgehog!
Bowser
Wario!
Cell Shaded Link! (which I think is bitchin')
R.O.B.!
Captain Olimar!
Captain Falcon
Lucas!
And what, we think. . . Jigglypuff and Wolf!, right? I'm no stalwart fanboy and I can be pretty critical. . . but damn! Brawl seems amazing in every respect and looks to be delivering almost everything I've wanted from the series (and some things I didn't even realize I want, like the stage builder). Have fun bitching about Ganondorf being a clone and all, but just don't forget the big picture here.

From what I understand Falco plays like Fox except her has two guns, not sure how that changes things but that is what I understand. Ganondorf supposedly has his moveset from Melee but has Ganon as his final Smash (Hopefully it is cool). Then again this is from Gamefaqs that I gathered this, we'll hopefully know more later today. Wolf should be interesting to see though, if he is in the game, because I can't even imagine Sakurai making 3 cloned Star Fox characters.

Actually like I said I have no big problem with the cast, I just hate seeing great characters like Ganondorf get gimped AGAIN. Will the game be amazing? Definately. But I can't help feel it is marred by the secret characters, especially those that deserved more attention even back when Melee came out.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'll wait until there is some credible evidence that Falco and Ganondorf are exact clones.  I never used Falco so I couldn't care less.  I'm more miffed that Captian Falcons FS is not his Galactic Falcon Punch.  R.O.B. doesn't get me doing cartwheels but he could be alright, I'll just wait and see.

Man, this is so much like Melee 6 years ago its funny...

I was on the Smash Boards reading every thread and seeing the posters' reaction to each confirmed character and I saw myself.

"Don't worry! The Online mode will still be great!"
"Brawl will be the best game ever! It doesn't matter how crappy the roster is!"
"Give the guy some time! The SSE mode is huge! There might be more secrets!"

These were the exact, same things that I said when Melee was announced. My disappointment was so big that I was in denial about it.

As for Brawl's roster, looks like I was right on a couple of things. However, I would've liked to have been wrong on a couple of things.

No matter how much of a positive spin you put on it Clone Ganondorf is still pathetic. Sakurai had two, count 'em, TWO new Zelda games to choose from and create a move list. Wind waker had a two katana wielding maniac, and Twilight Princess had a strong and deadly warlock, who used one giant sword.

What is REALLY that hard to pluck some moves off of them and create an unique Ganondorf? I know I said balancing characters isn't easy, but Sakurai now had the time and the staff to do so!

But you know what? I already trained myself to handle disappointment, so even if the hidden character roster sucks I'm alright. I expected this, so its time for me to move on.

I dunno, I just finished Twilight Princess, and the Ganondorf boss fight was "cloned" from the Armored Knight fights, if you want to get picky about it. Why would they give him a sword if Link already has one?

As for clones (and as other people have said, we don't even know their moves), I don't find it as big of a deal as you guys seem to take it. Even in Melee they were different enough to give me a different experience when I played as them, and many people grew an attachment to them over the years; making them entirely different would have messed that up, imo.

And while you're all whining about them being lazy, keep in mind they already had to create entirely new fighting styles for Pit, Wario, Zero Suit Samus, Pokemon Trainer, Diddy Kong, Metaknight, Snake, Sonic, Dedede, Olimar, R.O.B. and possibly Luigi. In addition to all the new stages, modes, and music, I'm sure that took up the entire 2 1/2 years of production time. People who want Sakurai fired for "not respecting the fans" after all the work he and his team have obviously put into this title deserve to have their Wii stripped from their person...also, forty lashings.

The only thing they did wrong was reveal so many of the unique characters in the opening trailer, but it was sweet, and as a PR bonanza, it certainly worked. Why don't you guys just think about how you're going to like playing the game in the future rather than concentrating on pipe dreams that the director felt unworkable?

As far as I know Ganondorf's Clone status is just speculation right now.  Most people think so just because he is devoid of a sword.

I still can't believe people defend Ganondorf clone. You realize you are saying one of the most important villains in Nintendo history is "fine" as a clone of Falcon? I can't believe people can rationalize that. Ganondorf has/had a chance to be a great character mixing magic with his moveset. Instead we get a brawler, and one that was originally defended as a clone because of a tight schedule, now because of that tight schedule his moveset is set in stone as a Falcon knockoff? Ugh. I take it that people are going to ticked off to find out they changed the movesets a bit with characters like Mario right?

lol it'd be funny that for his final smash he gets bowser mechanics, and the thing about clones is...they play different. Their nopt exact clones and never have been, ganondorf was slower then fox, but was stronger..there were a few other things he could do that falcon couldn't. Heck what would be coolest is if his moveset constantly changes..he starts off playing like an fire emblem character..at some point if he is thrown off he loses his sword and plays like melee classic, and then for final smash he becomes ganon which would be like bowser..that would rule..i doubt thats how it is though.

What I'm saying is is if Sakurai and his team thought there was a better set of moves to give to him, they probably would have. The boss battles with Ganondorf in the Zelda games were exciting, sure, but he didn't have a lot of moves they would translate to a fighting game they aren't already represented with his Falcon-esque brawling moves.

It's kinda sinking in now.

But I'm still holding out for the LAST character to be someone other than Wolf and instead a TRUE WTF character.

ROB has been in 3 games lately (F-Zero GX, Mario Kart DS and Wario Ware). He's not a surprise anymore.

I still can't believe people defend Ganondorf clone. You realize you are saying one of the most important villains in Nintendo history is "fine" as a clone of Falcon? I can't believe people can rationalize that. Ganondorf has/had a chance to be a great character mixing magic with his moveset. Instead we get a brawler, and one that was originally defended as a clone because of a tight schedule, now because of that tight schedule his moveset is set in stone as Falcon? Ugh.

Well you are being respectful so I'll respectfully respond back. I don't buy the explanation that Ganondorf couldn't be changed and still work. Heck if anything they should have given him his lightning ball that you can bat around. They could have been creative with other aspects as well, heck even giving him a sword would have been a change since he has had one in the last two games.

I'm guessing the final unlockable will be that weird blue thing, Tabuu or whatever.

There's no reason to make it this hard to unlock whatever it is unless it's "special".

I take it that people are going to ticked off to find out they changed the movesets a bit with characters like Mario right?

I assume the only other option would be to remove Ganondorf at this point.  Yes, they had all kinds of possibilities for a moveset and yes, he is an important character in Nintendo games but they chose to focus on other things rather than Ganondorf.  Anyway, why are you so sure that he is a clone?

And could we start a spoiler thread with only pictures please?  I dont want to see any pictures from the SSE unless I choose to.  I just want to know the full roster.

If he's an unlockable character, then Brawl will be following the fighter's tradition: Have a boss like character that is all blue and/or shiny, hard to unlock and insanely powerful...

Don't believe me?

Virtua Fighter: Dural
Dead or Alive 4: ALPHA-152
Soul Calibur: Inferno

And I will respectfully disagree. The lightning bat thing is only cool is Link is batting things back to him, and you can't have that kind of interaction in a free-for-all fighting game. I can see where you're disappointed, but I'm honestly not. We didn't even know he was back in the game as of last night, and what they had him do in Melee satisfied my expectations of the character in a fighting game. Link's the more interesting fighter out of the two, anyway; Ganondorf's just cool as a character, and as such, they gave him good facetime in SSE, as it seems.

Also I just realized why Ridley isn't in the game: Charizard. They'd control almost exactly the same, I think, and it'd lessen the coolness of the Pokemon trainer if they had doubles. Just be happy he's in the game at all...

I have read through most of the comments and while I do understand the outrage, especially in regards to Ganondorf being a possible clone again, I feel most people are being a little... finicky, for lack of a better word.

Besides Ganondorf though my major problem is that if they were going to include "clones", why not just bring back all the characters? Whenever I talked to my friends about the possibility of someone being cut out they would get extremely upset, while the mention of more clones only got a moderate grown. I also have a lot friends who liked Roy (and I like Pichu), were are they left in this? If Ganondorf is going to be a clone and the defense is because people where used to him that way, but other clones are missing, it just does not make any sense.

I find the roster as a whole to be fairly awesome, and while there are a few characters that I would have liked (Ridley, Takamaru, and Mach Rider as the new Falcon clone) it seems to have enough variety for me to be happy. And why all the R.O.B. hate? He could be an awesome, and in all probability, unique fighter, plus he was an early mascot for the NES (he was featured very prominently in the first commercials).

Haha, Gulliver would be awesome. If true, that'd be a sweet final character reveal.

Hey, what if Gulliver turns out to be the mastermind behind the SSE? I mean, the REAL mastermind? It would be pretty hilarious, if you ask me, and TOTALLY unpredicted.

(Well... unpredicted except for me writing that just now.)

Wow, just wow.

Some of you are as ungrateful as hell.  Baww Sakurai didn't make the game exactly like I wanted it to be so now it sucks.  Some of you need to realise that Sakurai isn't making this game just for you, he's making it for the millions of different gamers around the world that have many different taste.  Out side from having 3 Star Fox characters, the rest of the roaster is very good with lots of variety and much better representation of all the series then Melee did.  Even though I would have wanted Ridley to be playable, at least he looks like a truly badass boss fight which makes me happy.

Oh and even if Ganondorf and Falco aend up being clones, that's still 33 unique characters in the game, which is still 14 more unique characters then Melee had.  Actually if you want to get really technical and count all the different movesets as characters then Brawl really has 37 unique movesets which is 17 more then Melee had.

Plus lets not forget Ganondorf and Falco haven't been confirmed as clones yet.  So far we haven't seen any video's of them in action.  So for some of you to jump the gun like you have, is how should I say, rather stupid.

Sure is alot of name calling. From what I understand a source stated that Ganondorf is in fact a clone, and I see no reason to doubt it since most things are pointing to that whether it be be his stance being unchanged or the lack of a sword. Ganondorf if he does turn out to be a clone would be very frustrating because they've had two chances at it and two more Zelda games to determine a unique move list. Also once again I don't believe anyone here said Brawl sucks now, that is exaggerating quite a bit, being critical of aspects of the game does not mean you hate the game as a whole.

I've noticed Captain Falcon is in the game, so I suppose I'll have to buy this atrocity.

I also noticed WW Link is in it too, along with WW Super-Slicer Ganon, so I guess this game does have some redeeming qualities.

What I don't get:

Why take out Mewtwo?  Why take out Dr. Mario?  Why take out Roy? Pichu?  I know players didn't like them, but it was because they were clones, right?  So they were taken out because they were clones, right?  So then, why does Ness have Lucas's final smash?  Why does Falco have Fox's final smash?  Aren't they clones?

And we're hearing Ganondorf is likely a clone, too.  So I repeat, why not just leave the old clones in?

And then, of course, there's Mewtwo, who had no reason for removal, as far as I can tell.

Aside from that, there's one issue I have.  Melee was rushed and still featured an entirely new engine, 29 stages, several new items, and 18 (or 19, depending on how you feel about Luigi) completely unique movesets.  Brawl supposedly has 41 stages, only 12 more than Melee, but reuses at least six of Melee's stages, probably has 30 unique movesets, again not counting situations like Luigi's, and the only vastly improved feature is the sheer volume of items and assists trophies and also songs.

So I want to know why there's only twelve new movesets, why there's only forty-one stages, and things like this.  I think it's pretty obvious that too much time was spent on the Subspace Emissary.  I don't think this is a mode that's going to stand the test of time.  I don't think it's something people are going to sit down and play a year from now, and I don't think there's even that many bosses in it from what I've seen, so all-in-all, I think they wasted development time on the entire thing.  Granted, I didn't see what happened in between when Ganondorf and Wario became playable and the end, but as far as I saw, we had Petey, Rayquaza, Giant Diddy, some Golem thing, Taboo, and Ridley twice.  This is what I saw when the game was up to about 60% completed.  That's six bosses, not including Ancient Minister, Giant Bowser, and Master Hand, who are likely to be the remaining bosses.  It just doesn't seem like the mode worked out the way it was planned.  Basically, the story works in one of two ways: Characters meet, they join up, then fight together, or Characters meet, fight, then join-up and fight together.  That's just about it, plot-wise.  Honestly, they should have cut out all of the bland-looking side-scrolling stages for an extra boss, character, or whatever.

I'm just disappointed, because, to me, it felt like we were offered much more than it looks like we're getting.  I don't know what my official reaction is going to be, if a person can even have an "official" reaction.  I know I feel burned because Sakurai forgot that Smash, at heart, has always been a game based on multi-player, but I want to find a way to rectify this.  I'm hoping Nintendo announces downloadable characters, or something like that, in effort to calm negative reaction from raised expectations, but I doubt that will happen.  Maybe we'll see new stage ingredients added at some time.  Maybe there's actually forty characters, with a new column being added, I don't know, but I'm going to figure out what I can do to tell Nintendo I want more.  35 characters is not "unprecedented" for a game like Smash Bros.  It's wholly underwhelming, especially when everything new was announced well before-hand.  41 stages is not "unprecedented."  We were told to expect amazing amounts, and we're not getting them, which is why I'm upset.

Does anyone stop to thing that maybe Ganondorfs sword is just used for one of his special attacks?  Since so many people have been complaining about too many sword users, maybe Sakurai decided to have Ganondorf's physical attacks not use a sword as to not over do sword users.  For all we know maybe Ganondorf's A normal attacks could still be similar to Captain Falcon but his B special attacks could be unique ones that involve magic and his sword.

Once again until theres's actual proof that Ganondorf is a clone, then anyone complaining about it is jumping the gun.

Alright, then do you have some medication you can take? I usually have some Alka-Seltzer when I got emotionally upset over not having enough playable characters in an upcoming video game, though I'm sure everybody has their own methods.

And if your argument is "i think they're ripping me off because, even though they're giving me new characters and new stages, it doesn't hold up to the exact number I would consider 'unprecedented'", then you're just never going to be satisfied in life, now are you? And Subspace Emissary looks great; the fact that they came up with that and 35 new stages AND a dozen new characters is impressive.

It's people like you that rip the fun out of these things. Remember back in the day when Smash Bros. was just 12 characters and a handful of blocky stages?

Well if Ganondorf turns out to have a unique moveset I will have no real big complaints about the game. Like I said before I do not think Brawl is going to suck, though I do think one aspect of it is disappointing but even at that I'm still super excited for the game. BTW could the reason for Wolf not being revealed is because the game has a time player counter and unlocks him after you put in so many hours?

Speaking of Ganondorf, it would be sooo cool if one of Ganondorf's alt costumes was his Wind Waker form! I know they've shown the trophy but I can hope right?

I want the leakers to play in the damn F-Zero stage.  Seriously, they left the cursor on the F-Zero stage more then any other stage only to pick a different one.

Also I can't wait to see Sonic's stage in action along with Wind Waker Links stage.  Wind Waker Links stage actually looks exactly like I always imagined it.  Now I just need to see it in motion with music, which I'm sure will be the Wind Waker overworld theme.  Hopefully they'll get the Wind Waker ending theme in the game along with Dragon Roast Island theme as well.

Tell me about it... what a kick to the groin for me that was.

Yeah he wasn't popular in Melee, but it wasn't because of the character... it was because his moveset was underwhelming. So I was hoping he might be in and better balanced, but oh well.

So is this list pretty much confirmed? The screens (primarily image up254065) I see on gonintendo pretty much confirm it (order is pretty much dead on too), minus the inclusion of Wolf, which I'm guessing will be forthcoming. Let me say this, if this is the final roster I definitely feel let down. I really expected a more varied roster with the inclusion of some lesser known IPs, as well as the return of Mewtwo. Oh well :/

Luigi changed quite a bit from SSB to Melee, so perhaps some of the other clones will have increasing differentiation.

Toon Link and Ganondorf are confirmed to be clones (outside of their Final Smashes, it seems, but Toon Link's FS is unknown at the moment)...

Toon Link is rad, though, because his bombs explode in the toon-shading style...

I'm mostly looking forward to what subtle differences there are between Toon Link and the real one, even if it's just differently-modeled weapons. I wonder if his boomerang will have wind effects or not? I also hope Toon Link has a unique FS, mostly because Link's is rather tame, and WW has some pretty interesting possibilities.

Well now people are saying that Ganondorf's Up+B is actually somewhat different than it was in Melee...Make up your mind, people!

However, I've seen footage that confirm Toon Link works pretty much like Young Link (except much cooler)...His boomerang has no wind effect, so perhaps it does more damage or something to balance the loss?  Dunno...

That's disappointing.  Sakurai always wanted to have a more fleshed out single player game which he accomplished.  It seems like he neglected some characters in the process.  I have mixed feelings, the SSE looks really amazing, Clones don't bother me as much as some people but it's very strange for Ganondorf to be a clone again.  Ness and Falco I can see.  Oh well, Toon Link is still going to be damn cool

Ok.  Wow, have we gotten spoiled.  You just perfectly put this into perspective so I want to thank you.

12 new original move sets.  That used to be an ENTIRE new fighting game...except it wasn't twelve new move sets it was just twelve characters.  So twelve new move sets and new balance and game play mechanics for existing move sets sound pretty good.  41 different levels to play on...wow why is that not enough?  It's 41 different levels.

Oh, and lets see too much time spent on Subspace Emissary?  First off, I am thrilled they made a full fledged adventure game because that is what I played most in Melee.

But Subspace Emissary is not all they added:

Online Gameplay,
Co-op Adventure,
Co-op Event modes,
Tournament modes,
Create your own levels,
Replays and photos.

The game is filled with tons of goodness.

I am not directing this complaint directly at you thatguy, but many people complaining.  This game is still amazing, and it is still going to be great.  We worked ourselves up over wanting too much from this game...the truth is it is going to be great, and we should be excited to have all this news out.

Sure, do I wish other characters were added to the game...of course, I really wanted Bomberman and Mega Man as you all know...but Wow, what we got what we have is something special and amazing.

Olimar, Sonic, Snake, Metaknight, Wario, Zero-Suit Samus, Roy, Lucas, Pit, Lucario

Many of these characters were characters we have wanted to play for years...and now we can.

lol the game has so much crap, and then theres people complaining..its so pathetic. They added a huge single player mode.....thats great. Plus theres co-op, then when its all done we can fight with a crapload of characters against our friends, and then on-line. The game has endless replay value.

This is what happens when people get their hopes up and expect everything, its happened to me before. Learn from it and stop whining, by all gaming standards this is a great game. This is Nintendo people, and if you havn't learned that they don't do everything you want, halfass some things, and then do other things(great things) completely unexpected then you haven't learned anything from Nintendo.

anyone expecting Krystal should seriously take a reality check, she's a friggin non-Japanese British outsourced character.

A roster of 35 is only a travesty if Ganondorf doesn't have a brand new moveset. Seriously, they spent man hours on fake-Ness but not on Ganondorf, one of Nintendo's most iconic villains? Double-You-Tea-Eff?!

Reports that Falco and Wind Waker Link being clones and Lucario = fake-Mewtwo are a bit disappointing as well. I'm going to love this game to death. I just can't help but think that there are far too many blatant missed opportunities concerning the roster.... though that's based on 35 being the magic number. I felt that having clones (and near-clones like Lucas) after like 35-40 characters would have been acceptable.

And many of us wanted a cool unique version of Ganondorf, but we got poked in the eye not once but TWICE.

Sakurai quote on Melee"Ganondorf? Who gives a crap about him, he isn't significant, Captain Falcon's moveset is fine for him."

Sakurai quote on Brawl "I am quite impressed with this King Deedee guy, now that is a villainous character who has made an impact on gaming, let's give him our utmost love and attention. Oh yeah, I guess we have to include that Ganondorf guy AGAIN. People are sure demanding for such insignificant characters. Fine, we'll change his model and give him the same uninspired moveset, that will make that cult following happy. Not like they matter, I mean who has heard of Ganondorf?"

P.S. Do we know if you can control Ganon? Or is it an automated final smash?

So, does anyone TRULY believe that there might be even more characters to be unlocked?

I've been reading around boards and the last glimmer of hope is that you can unlock more characters outside the SSE mode, like in targets, challenge, classic, multiman etc.

They believe that at one point Sakurai said that you'll be unlocking most of the characters in SSE mode (some say that Sakurai said that 65% of the roster would be unlocked in SSE).

This is fueled even further by the fact that we are still getting new stages and that we have yet to see the 35th character.

Frankly, this is an attempt to try and gain false hope and deny that 35 is it. I know because the Smash community did the same thing with Melee.

Don't get me wrong, though. If we get a surprise megaton I'll be hyped. However, the roster has been confirmes, so its foolish to deny it.

I think the 35 roster is it to be honest. I've accepted that, but I do know what you mean about statements about characters being unlocked outside of SSE. Then again Sakurai also said he was going to try to avoid clones and indicated Ganondorf was not going to be one. So once again, do not believe a crazy man.

No way.... Okay, it's bad enough that all three are clones, but why couldn't they have at least given Wolf a new Final Smash? I mean, has he ever even used a Landmaster?

Why..? The only thing I can think of is that someone saw the most used characters at tournaments (Fox and Falco) and figured this was due to the characters themselves, rather than that it was because both were top tier before.

Man... I'm still in shock that Wolf is a clone. I was hoping he would be unique to add some flair to the hidden characters, but now ROB and Lucario are the only ones. It's like rubbing salt in the wound that Mewtwo was cut too, since he was far different than Lucario and was removed yet here we have three slightly different versions of the same moveset in the game.

EDIT:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H6uRcUADi8

Video... to relieve the pain a little bit, at least he has a really cool aerial drill kick (up A)... but his B moves are all the same as Fox.

As much as I dislike clones, I can agree with this.

If you're going to have the damn things in the game, you might as well artificially inflate the roster to 40-50 with them.

Only getting 35 characters out of it is like failing at being mediocre.

Stages look nice, but who cares? We can make our OWN stages anyway.

Given the sheer number of Melee stages which we had TURNED OFF in the level switch because we all agreed that they sucked ass, I think it's perfectly arguable.

In fact, the level switch was created for exactly that purpose.

But all that aside, you doubt the creative power of the collective SSB community when it comes to building stages?! Shame on you, Bill. I'm quite certain user-made stages will become as, if not MORE, popular than the ones included. Good stages don't need flashing graphics or crazy crap going on to be good.

On another note, after Wolf was unlocked, the player got the "all characters unlocked" message. It's over: 35 is all she wrote.

Well, the final roster doesn't bother me as much as it does some of you all, but something's bugging me...

Why keep the clones (Ganondorf, Falco/Wolf, Ness, etc.) and then replace MewTwo with Lucario (who apparently shares only one move with MewTwo from Melee). That's a scratch-your-head kind of thing to me...

I have a feeling the secret characters were all "phoned in" during the last few months of the game's development cycle. My guess is that Sakurai focused on finishing the starting roster, then pushed the characters off to the side to focus more on the extra modes and the SSE. That is seems to be the only explanation for why the secret roster is so blah in movesets and creativity. Since these may have been a last minute thing they may not have had time to spit out characters like Mewtwo.

Given the sheer number of Melee stages which we had TURNED OFF in the level switch because we all agreed that they sucked ass, I think it's perfectly arguable.

I'll assume that's the royal "we" you're using there. I personally thought the only one that needed to be turned off was the unfair Icicle Mountain stage; the rest were great, and the ones in Brawl look even better.

As for the roster...who really wanted to see Mewtwo back, anyway? I never used him as he was too hard to control, and Lucario seems to be an improvement. I love the Pokemon games, but if Sakurai couldn't make him workable, then that's that. The guy's job is to make a video game, not fulfill the wishes of every single person out there. And in my opinion, what he promised, he delivered. You guys are just getting worked up because you found out about the clones last, unlike in Melee, where the original characters were split among the starting roster and the hidden one. Not really his fault.

*ducks*

But I do understand those who liked him.

Mewtwo was really unique, I'm not glad to see him gone but not too sad to see him leave.  I would have liked it if they kept him in.  It seems like Sakurai focused his character choices around the SSE, I can't see why Wolf would have made it in over Krystal especially with Fox's moveset.  I'm not upset today, I know my friends will get a kick out of playing with Wolf even with his moveset.

When I played with friends we usually ended up playing on Corneria, they hated moving stages, the only one I really disliked was Icicle Mountain.  I'm looking forward to making stages personally made for certain characters.

35 characters, NeoThunder...

"Uh, yeah, someone posted a video of a stage which was entirely composed of ladders and platforms which fell off the bottom of the screen after you stood on them for too long."

I guess I should have been more specific..."Things thrown at me that ties me to a stage" like karts driving by on the Mario Kart stage or the Grubdog trying to eat you on the Pikmin stage...It's not that I won't use the Stage Builder (I have some ideas myself), but in the end they are generic in comparison to most of the pre-made stages...But in the end it doesn't matter, because there are 41 pre-set stages and infinite custom stages...

Oh, and it seems you can't use custom stages online either, cue up more bitching I guess...

Actually from recent video's that have been released, there doesn't seem to be any real clones in this game except for Toon Link.

Falco, Ganondorf, Wolf, and Lucas all have quite a few differences from the characters they're based off of. They all have one B special move that's different. Plus some of Ganondorf and Falco's A moves are different and in the case of Wolf and Lucas, ALL of their A attacks are different from Fox and Ness.

Considering a clone is a character that shares most if not all their moves with the character they're based off of like the ones in Melee did, only Toon Link fits that description this time.  So in reality Brawl DOES have 34 unique characters and only 1 real clone.

We have conflicting sources, then.

I've heard that the dorf is most certainly a clone.

In fact, the only difference in any of the clones I've seen confirmed is that Falco can throw his reflector or something.

Pretty much Toon Link is Young Link with a new coat of paint.  Compared to all the others who have different A attacks and their special attacks have more of a difference between them and the character they're based off of.

In other words Falco, Ganondorf, Lucas and Wolf were all given the Luigi treatment for Brawl.  This is because Luigi was pretty much a clone of Mario in the first Smash Bros but in Melee they made lots of small changes to him that made the differences between him and Mario like Night and Day.  Now maybe after awhile some people might discover Toon Link has a lot more changes we haven't noticed but so far he's looking like Melee's clones, while everyone else has been partying at Luigi's Mansion.

ahahaahahhaah photoshop

seriously, there's so many useless characters in this game.

I'm stuck with Captain Falcon and the Mario Bros. again.  While the rest of the world is using "Fox/Wolf/Falco/insert space dog/chicken clone here cuz they only play to win and be boring".

The number of Youtube videos featuring "competitive" matches that feature only StarForx characters will rise by orders of magnitude.

... Wh-.... Wha-?

Bill, if that's true, then Sakurai's really done it this time. Toon Link in a Landmaster Tank is a stroke of genius so OBVIOUS that Sakurai must be a total idiot not to have included it! I mean, it's like a microcosm of Smash Bros... not only are there characters from lots of universes coming together to duke it out, but Celda Link in a Landmaster would have been that idea, BUT IN A CHARACTER. And for him not to take advantage of this is a philosophical and practical oversight the likes of which I've never had to experience. OH, I LAMENT YOU, SAKAURAI, FOR THE WOEFUL EXISTENCE YOU MUST SURELY LEAD.

Really, I pity him. It's just sad.

I don't know about you guys, but I have half a mind not to even buy the stupid game now, just because I no longer respect Sakurai and don't want to support his stupid work. If Sakurai can't complete the cycle, the very idea behind Smash Bros. of a melding of game universes, then I don't know what this world is coming to.

...

Does this mean no Pikachu Landmaster Tank Final Smash?

From what little I've seen of both Final Smashes (a clip of Falcon's and a pic of Ganondorf's), it looks more like Falcon's attacks from the Z axis (think the Dragoon item) while Ganon appeared to be standing on the X axis...

Completely missed opportunity on Sakurai's part.  Luigi could have been an extremely fun character to play as.  Instead, he's just a minor adjustment version of Mario..  *cough*clone*cough*

Luigi having his Poltergust enabled at all times would have allowed for a very interesting, and most importantly, FUN moveset.  He could have sucked in his foes toward him for his "throw" action, spit out flames or ice as a Forward+B special, or even used it to hover as a third jump for his Up+B special.

I'm seriously disappointed in the unlockables.  The starting roster, however, is amazing.  And the game is going to be incredibly fun to play... I can't wait for it to hit stateside, really.  But it just frustrates me to no end that we have three versions of the same character with small, minor adjustments -- tourneydorks are going to love it, sure, but that's wasted space when more unique, creative characters could have been introduced.

Well, without the vacuum, at least I'll still be comfortable with my main guy.  I really don't consider Luigi a clone.  I can destroy with him, but I suck with Mario.  I was very happy to see his very powerful uppercut return.

It's actually a Ganon-shaped Landmaster.

Anyway, sucks (no pun intended) that they didn't at least give Luigi the vacuum in place of the Fludd. It could even have been the exact same move, just with air instead of water. Sigh.

Why does it sound like most people prefer Krystal over Falco and Wolf?  I'm relieved to have Wolf in the game...a nemesis for Fox who's been a part of the series longer, and started from a good Star Fox game.  I don't understand everyone's obsession with Krystal.

Chasefox:

1. She'd be another female member of the roster.
2. She's NOT a clone.
3. She carries a bo staff and has magic abilities.
4. Brawl is too much of a sausage-fest at this point.

haha, I did miss the hawtness thread...but in response to Krystal, there's no proof she wouldn't be a clone.  Having a bo could have been just an aesthetic choice, and she could've had the same moveset as everyone else...I mean, she's been piloting an arwing just like everyone else lately, when was the last time she used her bo?  (Though if she had a new moveset that would be cool, but based on everyone's complaints and thought process about Sakurai, how likely would that have been?)

But I'm not complaining about this game one bit, it looks like pur fun and amazingness...ok, I lied, I'm complaining about the release date...THEY NEED TO HURRY UP!!!

Is it bad that I'm trying to mooch off of strangers in my area that have already imported the game?  I'm trying to find someone in G-ville that has it, and I've found a person that knows a person already, so I'm trying to see if I can get an invite to play it, without being too pushy.  That'll be pretty awesome if it does happen.  If it's good enough, I'll just have to import it, then forge a means to play it now, rather than wait, then let my roommate buy the North American version.

This thread has a great deal of info, including Ganondorf's complete cloniness. His FS just looks like he'll attack everything in front of him.

Falco throws his reflector, but other than that seems to have all the same moves.

I really, really, really HATE R.O.B. He was stupid in Mario Kart DS and he is stupid in this game. Seeing him in motion only makes me hate him more. Star Wolf blows too, why not throw in King K. Rool? He is a much better developed nemesis that could've had a very unique moveset. Also while I'm complaining, Ganondorf and Falco still clones, WTF? Seriously, what the hell was Sakurai thinking? If he intended on putting them in as clones he may as well have not cut anyone from Melee and left in all the clones.

You know...I keep coming to this page hoping that not everything is revealed yet.  Like another stage will be shown or unlocked...or a super secret time release character will finally be revealed.

You know I would totally do that too.  Even if it was just one character hidden really deep in the game.  Of course it would be cooler and much more exciting if it was like 5 characters deeply hidden in the game.  I know it won't happen, but still it would be nice.

Rumor Geno originally in Brawl, the Square-Enix got him removed because they have a death wish

Sigh...

Well there seems to be conflicting reports on the extremespeed being like teleport. Aura Sphere is really nothing like Mewtwo's attack, though, except that it hurts people while he charges (it flies straight and quick when he shoots his). His Force Palm, while similar to Disable, at least cuts out the first part so it's more useful. Meanwhile, his A attacks are totally different. So he really is not a Mewtwo clone at all IMO.

EDIT: Hmm... more forum trouble it seems as this appears before others who posted before me.

Dude, that is the worst rumor I have ever read. Seriously, here is what the original source had to say:

"Every character in the top 10 of that list is in the game except Geno, who was the #1 character on the list.

IMDB.com lists the voice of Ness, Makiko Omoto, as doubling for the voice of Geno in the credited cast portion of its overview of the game. Finally, on the final character screen, there is an extra square to the far right where a "random select" box was implemented."

Those last two points were supposed to be "proof"? Anyone can update the IMDB listing, and wouldn't the "random select" box look odder if it was placed in a row by itself than at the end?

How is Game & Watch more of a gimmick or uninspired then any other character?

Falco and Wolf being Fox clones is expected.  They have no distinguishing features besides looks, they are like Luigi is to Mario without individual games.
Its hard for me to complain about a game that has so much in it but I really wish that Ganon wasn't a Captain Falcon clone again.  At the very least they should have made him an Ike clone with Roy's explosion sword so he could fight like he actually does in the series instead of his random kicks and punches.

Because his moves are nothing too exiting and I don't know that find as usable as other characters.  However, I do need to add that I have less attachment to G&W than most of the brawl characters.

I'd call Game & Watch and inspired gimmick character. Silly, but clever. ROB was clever as an enemy, and while I don't mind having him playable, it'd always be nice to have other characters. Also, what's up with all the time warp posts. It's freakin' me out.

What's with all the ROB hate?  After finally seeing a video of someone messing around with him in training mode I think he looks awesome.  I mean, come on, he has laser beam eyes!  And rocket jets!

ROB's FS should've involved him stacking the other characters and then knocking the stack over. His FS just plain sucks.

What hurts the most out of all this is the fact that Ganondorf is still a clone.
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: NWR_pap64 on February 01, 2008, 03:58:56 PM
ROB's FS IS pretty weak and disappointing.

All the other character's FS have then growing insanely large, attack directly for massive damage (no pun intended), invade the screen with enemies and effects and are just epic.

ROB's FS on the other hand just has him shooting short lasers that while they do damage you have to get closer in order for it to be effective.

Honestly, many of the Final Smash attacks suck. For example, what the hell were they thinking with Peach's FS? Two different alternatives come to mind and neither involve peaches falling from the sky: Psych-Bomb from Super Mario RPG or Vibes from Super Princess Peach.

I agree.  The final smashes seem really hit and miss to me.  I won't be surprised if I end up turning smash balls off because of their inconsistency.

Speaking of Final Smashes, I'm just really bummed about Toon Link having the same one as Link. I was really looking forward to a wind waker FS. I was thinking he could stop, take out the wind waker, and using the control stick, you could direct a really strong wind in any directions for a few seconds. Think the Whispy Woods tree in the kirby stage but with more force so that even running at full speed wouldn't guarantee survival.

Its a shame because we all know we'll be playing this game for generations to come, and no matter what anyone says, it will be epic. But it stinks that the game is being overshadowed by an ongoing theme of lost potential. Its kinda like all of the deep, meticulous, insanely unexpected features in the game are just jaw dropping, but they forgot to embellish on the small, easy things.

Then again, NONE OF US HAVE PLAYED THE GAME! which is why I will say nothing more on the matter until I can experience everything for myself. Time to get back to counting down the seconds until one of my most anticipated games of all time comes out! By the way, I called my Gamestop recently, and mine will in fact be having a midnight sale. Hope the same goes for you.

Oh and heres a present: Countdown to Brawl

On the assist trophy list- isn't there supposed to be a Rosalina assist trophy?  Why isn't she on the list?

Side note- I was lurking Smash Boards, and stumbled upon this little gem:

"The only pre-existing models he took were probably the TP models of Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf (albeit with a few tweaks and whatnot). But other than that, all the models are completely new, even Toon Link's. If his model wasn't, he would be cel-shaded, when he clearly isn't."

I love how they can't understand the difference between a shading technique and the actual polygonal model.  Sakurai said he used WW Link's model for the assist trophy, and I'm sure he used it for the in-game model too.

There are 27 assist trophies? For some reason I figured there'd be more assist trophies than characters, especially since some of them are just sprites.

Well now we can all say without a doubt that Brawl does have, THE GREATEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!!!

All I've been doing this weekend is listening to the soundtrack over and over again, it's just incredible.  Never before has a game had so much variety in it's soundtrack, pretty much every style of music is in this game.  Then there's the fact that they got an amazing selection of songs from all the series.  Every fan of each series will find at least one of their favorites represented.

The ONLY negative about the soundtrack is the Sonic music though.  It's obvious that Sega got to choose all the Sonic songs that would be put in.  Metal Gear only has 9 songs, yet Konami was able to remix 5 songs for the game.  While Sonic is allowed to have 12 songs yet Sega only remixes ONE song for the game.  Goddamnit how f*cking lazy can Sega be.  Konami is nice enough to give Sakurai new music for over half of the Metal Gear songs while all Sega is capable of doing is ONE song.

Then there's the fact that there's no variety in the Sonic music.  The only unique song that stands out is Scrap Brain Zone, everything else is either the main theme or the song from the first level.  Oh and the fact that Sonic Boom, Sonic Heroes and Seven Rings in Hand are in the game makes me want to puke.  All this game needs now is something from Sonic R and Brawl will officially have the worst Sonic songs all in one game.  Oh wait, Super Sonic Racing is from Sonic R which makes it official, Brawl has the worst collection of Sonic songs together in one game.

So in short, congratulations for Sakurai, Nintendo and Konami in helping to make the greatest soundtrack ever.  And burn in hell Sega, you lazy f*cking bastards for putting a black mark on this other wise godly soundtrack.

I'm probably the only person alive who doesn't care about the music because I don't even hear it in the middle of an intense match.

I'm only listening for audio clues about mines being placed and such.

Well anyone that wants to hear some of the music but doesn't want to download those giant files, this Youtube user has uploaded quite a few songs.

I'd recommend everyone listen to the Final Destination theme for Brawl right now.  It's truly an amazing piece to be heard.

Too bad they wasted such a great track on a stage only good for Bob-omb/Explosive matches...

No they didn't, you have to remember that all tracks can be used in Custom Stages.

I plan on making a huge temple like stage with this song in the background.  I'm going to call it, The TRUE Final Destination.

Oh crap, I forgot about that! =O

Though the first track I'm going to use in a custom stage is DEFINITELY going to be the Golden Sun Battle Theme Remix...Best surprise ever...

I did a recheck of the ATs in the list, and Andross is NOT on there (and I don't believe I cut him off from the data rip data)...This means that there could possibly be OTHER ATs hidden in the data...

Right now there are 28 proven...

(It's also possible more MUSIC has been hidden in the dual-layered disc, as there are a bunch of numbers missing in the soundtrack rip...It seems unlikely, but Andross' disappearance is suspicious...)
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: stevey on February 03, 2008, 01:38:28 PM
There more!?! *head explodes*

27 was way too low for AT but more than 314 tracks is way too much, no game can be this awesome!
Title: RE: The game has been leak! Prepare for spoilers!
Post by: Bill Aurion on February 03, 2008, 02:00:32 PM
Turns out the music rip is only from ONE LAYER of the disc...The other layer holds a majority of the FMV in the game, but if the missing song labels are anything to go by, this is how many songs could be missing...

Mario - 4 (two in-between Mario & Luigi and Mario Sunshine...two in-between Mario Bros. and Mario Kart)
Zelda - 1 (in-between LttP and LA)
Yoshi - 1 (in-between Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Touch & Go)
Star Fox - 1 (in-between Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Assault)
Fire Emblem - 2 (one from Shadow Dragons and the Blade of Light...one in-between Gaiden and Sacred Stones)
Mother - 4 (three in-between Mother and Mother 2...one in-between Mother 2 and Mother 3)
WarioWare - 1 (just a sound effect)
Animal Crossing - 1 (in-between AC and Wild World)
NES - 1
Assorted - 1
Metal Gear - 2
Sonic - 1
Melee - 1 (FOURSIDE PLEASE)
Brawl - 2
SSE - 2

So far the most convincing evidence that this may be the case is that the Fourside track has somehow mysteriously disappeared even though every other Melee track is in the game (not counting the classics)...

I'm pretty sure none of the franchise remixes are orchestrated, and I have no clue about the original material (like in the SSE, which I won't spoil myself on until I play the game...)

(Actually, the Fire Emblem vocal theme is probably orchestrated...)

All of the victory songs you know those small doo dads that play when you win are orchestrated. . .

So, anyone else here that the code for the game reveals some intended characters that didn't make it in? Specifically: Mewtwo, Roy, Toon Zelda/Sheik, Dixie, Doctor Mario and someone noted as "Pra Mai" (some say this is Plusle/Minum while others say it's the leader of the emissary). I'm surprised Krystal wasn't seriously considered, but of those I'm only sad that Dixie (especially sad about this one...) and Mewtwo did not make it.

EDIT: Oh, and sorry if this has already been mentioned here, been gone for a few days.

Dixie Kong always looked like a reject from an episode of Blossom, or a background dancer from an early 90's TLC video.  I'm glad she's not in- too dated.
