Title: Lost my DS...
Post by: Djunknown on July 02, 2009, 02:17:55 AM
 :-[

Lost my DS when I was in the movie theatre. I had it in my left pocket, and some time during me walking out of the theatre and into my car, I noticed it was gone.I looked in my car to see if it slipped out, but it wasn't there either.

I went back to the theatre, searched the area where I sat down, asked the customer service if someone turned it in, said no.

I gave them my info in case it turns up, but I have to assume the worst. Its not like a cell phone or wallet where its only useful to the owner. My guess is that some kid is enjoying a limited edition Mario red DS with NSMB and Ninjatown, some headphones and a black carrying case. All they have to do is drop a few bucks on a AC adapter, boom they're set.  >:(

I registered it to Club Nintendo for the warranty. My question is that what if someone was dumb enough to try to hock it at Gamestop, Amazon, Ebay, can Nintendo track it? If I call Nintendo and say, 'Hey my DS was misplaced, can you track where it went if its scanned?'

Why did I bring my DS to the theatre you say? To kill time between the advertisments and previews. Can't stand 'em. Wish they played cartoons like they did in the 40s...

So yeah, I'm depressed, pissed at myself, hanging on to a sliver of hope. I mean, they could call me tomorrow morning, saying they picked it up! But I'm not holding my breath... :-[

It is in your ski boot.

I remember that moment.

You checked all of the car?

I would ask some of the local EB/Gamestops. They actually tend to have policies about systems and collect addresses and phone numbers from people who sell back old ones.

You guys need to get a chain so you can tether it to your pants.

Wear it like those cool kids chain their wallets and their MacBook Pro to their pants.

Heck yeah, I had a chain holding my 17'' Macbook Pro to my pants. Well I did until the weight ripped my pants... lol

How much of an idiot would you look like with a DS chained to your pants....

Can't you just chain the DS' case to your pants? That would result in less damage to the DS clanking around and wouldn't look as stupid either. But you should still keep it in your pocket. The chain is just to catch it IN CASE it falls out.

And as far as ripping pants goes, I recommend chaining stuff to your belt instead of to your pants. Belts can take the weight, but pants probably can't.

Please say you knew I wasn't being serious about chaining my Macbook Pro to my pants....

Checked it thoroughly today. No sign of it.

Called the theatre again to see if there's any updates, but none to be had. Wherever it is, its gone...

I'll remember that for next time. It might look a bit goofy, but peace of mind pays for itself.

Thanks for your concern people. I'll continue to exhaust all possible leads, but I'm ready for the worst. $@#$ happens.

I CANT FIND MY DS EITHER. (for like 3 months now)

Freaking DS stealing gnomes. They monitor NWR looking for victims then hide our portable gaming devices. I hope they outlaw gnomes.

Gnomes stole my copy of AC: CF, and they temporarily stole a rented copy of Resistance 2 until I had to pay for it then they brought it back.

Is that why you don't join our AC parties?

I don't know where my DS is either.

...Which is because I sold it. But still, I have no idea where it might be.

A good place to look would be the residence of whomever you sold it to. Do you have their name and address? :P

I'm actually very familiar with procedure here. (Sorry if this is reviving a dead thread) First of all, if you have the serial number, which it sounds like you do, you can try to call the local Gamestops (this works even better if you can actually GO to the stores physically) and ask them if they have it. if it's a limited edition, all the better for you because it will stick out like a sore thumb. Also try any pawn shops or any place where you can buy used systems. If you locate it, you can call your local police and file a report, because it means the system was actually stolen from you. They can requisition the system from the store without the store having to take the loss of "giving away" a system, plus they are the only ones who can see the info on who traded it in, so everyone is happy. Of course this actually hinges on being able to find it. Don't expect the store that owns it to just give it to you, though, the police do have to get involved. Good luck to you!

This is a month old when you bumped it. It has to be at least a year then we frown upon it.Unless it is in the funhouse which happens alot.

Besides you helped someone out. That never goes out of style.:)

Reviving a dead thread is preferred over making a new copy thread to my understanding.

Is there any update on the lost system, Dj?

There's nothing to report. Whoever lifted it probably didn't sell it. Or at least sell it in the 'traditional' channels. Like I said before, it doesn't have a charger, so I doubt many resellers will take it as is. The GS/EBs in my immediate area don't have used Mario Red DS Lites, no postings on Craigslist or ebay within a limited radius either...

After a month, its as good as dust in the wind. :'(

EDIT:Welcome to the boards Athena. Please share provocative, but somewhat tasteful pictures of said character when you get the chance. 8)
