TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Selling Refurbished Handhelds
« on: April 29, 2013, 08:30:30 PM »
Hmm. Interesting. I would have expected a better price though, the Dsi XL is only 10 dollars less than Gamestop. But I guess that's not too bad considering it comes with a free game (good ones, at that) and is refurbished by Nintendo, which may count for something in quality standards.

This is great news for Me: Since I got my 3DS I have hope to one day have every Zelda Game possible downloaded to it.

This just brought my dream a little bit closer...

This is great news for me! I fell victim to the Mission 14 Circus Bug. I was killed right after I regained my backpack, and decided to stop playing for the day. The Next time I booted the game: No Objective, no goal, just stuck in Limbo.

Now I am going to start over and hopefully be able to finish this great game  ;)

TalkBack / Re: NWR Staff's Favorite 10 Games of 2012
« on: January 08, 2013, 08:34:07 PM »
I wanted a Wii U very badly upon release, but there wasn't a game I didn't already have or couldn;t wait to get. So I bought a Wii U, and took a chance by making ZombiU my first Wii U game purchase. That was a great choice.

ZombiU is a fresh and challenging take of a Zombie game. In a world flooded with Zombie games, it really stands out, and shines. It easily justified the usefulness of the new Wii U game pad, and yes - it scared the hell out of me too.I have tried to explain the game to curious non-Wii U owning friends, which can be a challenge in it;s own right. It usually goes something like this:

"ZombiU, is a zombie survival challenge game. It's not like other zombie games in a sense or 'guns blazing zombie-slaying hero', at all. You don't run around picking up crates of ammo and items - in fact, anything you find you cherish as a survival too no matter how simple it is, whether its 2 bullets or a can of soda. ZombiU sets you in a world taken over by zombies. Mankind's fate, (as well as yours) seems desolate and hopeless. You are alone. You are outnumbered. You are unprepared. You don't get to try or do anything over. You are screwed. You WILL die in this world, and you will die alone. The only connection to any other form of sentient life a mysterious voice on the radio. SO, you have two options: give up and die, or die a warrior that gave his/her all to the fight on the way down. Fight as long and hard as can, with one goal: SURVIVE. You have a cricket bat, a motion sensor and a backpack - good luck."

- I think that sums it up.

Sound good, thanks for the article.
About the QR codes: I personally thought this was a cool 3DS feature, I wouldn't be disappointed if the Wii U is be capable of using QR codes via the Controller's camera or something similar. I remember first trying it with my 3DS - I had my Mii collection stocked full of cool Mii's in seconds just taking scans of QR codes directly from my PC's Monitor. An easier way to share Mii's between friends online would be nice too, but either wayI think i'll be satisfied.

Regarding chat: To me it sounds like the chat app on PS3. that's nice, but i'd be happier with something like the cross-game chat like on Xbox live. Not the whole Party chat thing - I could care less about that. Live's 'Private Chat" option would be enough for me. I just like the ability to talk to a friend without being confined to the space of a "dashboard app".  The only time I want more than that, is when I am in a multiplayer group/party where i need to speak to more than one person, but that comes standard in online games today, even on consoles like PS3 with no built in system party chat.  To sum it up - I think it will start basic but Nintendo will improve it over time to satisfy most gamers.

TalkBack / Re: Wii U Pro Controller to Retail for $49.99 in North America

Rumble is already confirmed for the controller.

Thanks for clearing that up - the earlier comments had me misinformed. Yeah Nintendo! That actually makes me happy, I have been curious about the Pro Controller, the analog sticks above the buttons on both sides of the controller - to me seem like it may fit nicely.

Has anyone with NWR had their hands on one? If so, - their thoughts?

Is Sony still screwing people by not including the charging cable with the DualShock 3? When I bought one last year, it didn't have one (which is ridiculous as you need one to charge the controller).

Yes. It's just like when I bought the PS3 MGS4 bundle. An HD console that included an HDMI port but no cable to use it. I was so mad, I live in a rural area. I drove 40 miles to buy a PS3, 40 miles home to hook it up, and 40 miles BACK to the store to buy an HDMI cable, and 40 miles back home to finally play. That was an annoying day.

I bought a dualshock 3 when they released, and it came with a charge cable. It may have only been a few inches long, but it was better than nothing! Years later that controller needed replacement. So i bought a new one - it did not come with a charge cable either. That's pretty shady business.

Hmm.. I think I'll wait for Nintendo to wise up and add rumble to the controller. I have a feeling we'll see the same thing that happened with the PS3 and Dual-shock 3. Fans will complain, and they will add rumble back.

I will never understand why they decided to remove it in the first place. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Nintendo beat every competitor to the vibrating controller feature with the rumble pack? Why is it that companies invent a new innovative feature that gains wide popularity, only to take it away with no stated logical reason?

Really?  If we don't like to buy white, then why is it the last 2 times i have went to upgrade my iPhone, Apple is ALWAYS sold out of the white ones, but always have an infinite supply of black ones. Their response is always "People like the white one better, it sells better"

This may be a regional thing, I realize it may not be this way across the entire North American Market. But it's still food for thought. People play a lot of "games" on iPhone, (I don't - I'd rather play on 3DS) there is no ignoring it. Just sayin' .....

And besides, how many white handhelds have Nintendo even tried to sell in North America? I'm not trying to sound negative or complain, I just think it's worth looking into.

TalkBack / Re: The Great Pre-Wii U Backlog Saga
« on: August 25, 2012, 01:15:32 PM »
I personally didn't have any problems with it. I also got it for 4$ on PC via a steam sale too, I can verify it was less buggy than that version. (The PC version had glitchy controls for me and I was using a 360 controller) That's why I called the 360 the definitive version for me, it runs & controls better than Wii and controls a little smoother than the PC.

I'm known for being picky about a game being "tolerable" and I enjoyed it. All this talk about it makes me want to put it in my 360 and play it again  ;)

@ Neal:

Yes, I had the same problem with Bully and the Wii's controls. I first tried the game at release on PS2, I thought the Wii release would show improvement - but it didn't. The controls were quite imprecise. I later picked up the Scholarship Edition on Xbox 360, it is the definitive version for me. It's much more playable.

Also, I have a launch Wii too. My Wii has suffered the disc problem more than once. Nintendo replaced it twice. I know one other person with a launch Wii - same problem. After the 2nd Repair it happened again and I learned something: those wii cleaning kits will fix the problem. Every time Metroid prime Trilogy or Smash Bros. wont play I clean the drive and presto! it plays again on the first try.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo of America Comments on Nintendo Power's Closure
« on: August 22, 2012, 04:07:48 PM »
It's another sad day to see another one disappear. I remember all the great times I had drooling over the awesomeness that was Nintendo Power on the school bus, at recess, at the mailbox, etc - every time I received a new issue. Before the internets, there was one thing back in the 80's and early 90's that showed the mark of a hardcore Nintendo gamer; That one thing was Nintendo Power.  Did you have the power? I sure did.

I understand there are may reasons this must happen, but it's still sad. Long Live the memories of Nintendo Power.  I leave this for all of you that want to reminisce - watch & enjoy:

YES! I sooooo want this table. I need this. I am throwing money at the screen, but nothing is happening yet. Consider this one pledged. Now... I wait...

16
Well, looks like I better go ahead and order a PAL copy of Pandora's Tower, show them I want the game. Besides, it's already in English, and I like the nice black box anyway  ;)

And to answer the remark above me: yes, it is a cool action game. I already have it on my Wii's HDD.

TalkBack / Re: Yellow Pikachu 3DS LL Coming to Japan
« on: August 17, 2012, 08:40:26 PM »
Stuff like this is the reason I am waiting to buy a 3DS XL. I admit, I was spoiled by the beauty of my Ocarina of Time Zelda bundle 3DS. So I'm holding out for a special XL, this Pikachu LL isn't a bad start! I'm hoping for a Majora's Mask XL or a Luigi's Mansion edition. I know the odds are slim but hey, I could be hoping for an Earthbound XL edition.

*Sigh* in a perfect world....

TalkBack / Re: Rayman Legends Is a Wii U Exclusive
« on: August 15, 2012, 09:19:52 AM »
I think you said it right in the last paragraph. We all know it will hit other consoles at some time - it's Rayman, after all.

However, I don't care if it does when I really think about it. I just think it's nice that it will launch as a Wii U exclusive. It's nice to see publishers showing faith in the Wii U in ways like this.

Man, this makes me really wish I didn't blow my points a month ago to get that stupid Giant AR card. This would have been so much better! Besides, the 3DS Barely notices the giant AR card properly. I actually had to put it up and make one with Gimp editor and a color printer on a good ole 8x11 sheet of photo paper which works much better.

Makes me want to go down to my local video rental, and scan all their codes with my phone before someone else does. Because my gold Wii remote is sad now.

Thanks! this is just the thing i need to listen to while cranking away at my Nintendo Museum Minecraft Server.

I have to ask... since I have only been listening since around #175 - what is wrong with #103? must be something interesting to call it out like that. Are you being serious about avoiding that one, or should I go check it out and see what the fuss is about?

21
I sure hope theses titles hit the US market for 3DS as well. I already own Mega Man 2 on every device except for my blender. But one more copy of Mega Man 2 never hurts my feelings.

Double Dragon 2 is also nice, but I wonder: what about 2-player? does it even support it? It would be pretty awesome if it did support 2 3DS consoles to connect and play that game together. It's one of my favorites - but like many others it's much better played with a friend.

Thanks for the response. I had a feeling the authors here knew what they were talking about, but it was the first time I have even heard the name "LL" used. I wonder why the change from LL to XL in different regions?

3DS "LL" ? I would be surprised to see such a typo - if this site didn't have Nintendo in it's name...  :P:

Or are they calling it LL in Japan and XL in the US/Euro? (in which case I am going to feel silly)

Thanks for this, have them both but can't decide which one to play first. I was going to start with Pikmin 1 obviously, but I hear so much about how much better 2 is, it was hard not to play the 2nd one instead. I'll give them both a run now  ;)
