----Original OP Starts Here----So we know the new Zelda game is coming to NX. And that's pretty much it. Maybe Pikmin 4, maybe a couple of Squeenix games. Something from Koei-Tecmo. And now this.

Rise: Race The Future. From the makers of IronFall on 3DS. Coming to pretty much everything (except Vita), including NX. They even ripped Vook's logo mockup for the announcement. It's also coming out Winter 2016 which, yeah sure, of course it's totally coming out Winter 2016. No, really!

You'll probably never play it. But it's the first official third party game announced for NX.

It's always funny when a new console is on the horizon and you start seeing the first games announced for it.  Usually there are games that I wouldn't give the slightest **** about but I find out about them simply because there is such a demand for info on the new console so the first games announced get a lot of attention.  Actually it's a good marketing strategy.  If Rise came out a year into the NX life I probably wouldn't know about it at all unless it started getting GOTY buzz.  But with this timing I do notice it.

Or if it was the only thing coming out a year into the NX's life. :P

I'm very interested to see the continuation of EA's unprecedented Nintendo support. If this past year is anything to go by, we should be in for a real treat.

Project Sonic 2017 (lol working title) has just been announced for NX. Holiday 2017. But let's be realistic, we only have a CG trailer so let's just say 2018. From the same people who brought you Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations (and also Sonic 06, odd how the left that one out).

Finally! The first solid reason to buy an NX console!

Apparently according to friend-of-the-site Syrenne, the current NDA says not to announce games for the NX. Guess Ubisoft and Sega don't care!

Or the NDA 4-Corner Games got isn't the same as the one Sega and Ubisoft got. I understand her frustration but Monochrono isn't Sonic or the one franchise that still moves tons of units on the freaking Wii in 2016.

That Project Sonic 2017 trailer is like the opposite of the also just announced (but not for NX) Sonic Mania which incidentally is like the game Sonic the Hedgehog 4 should have been.
I'm not a huge Sonic fan (like the character more than the games), but the tone of Project Sonic 2017 rubs me the wrong way. It seems too serious.

In any case, I'm going to buy an entirely new console to play a game available on a console I already own because my life doesn't make sense.
Title: Re: Official NX Game Announcements
Post by: Luigi Dude on July 23, 2016, 09:34:36 AM
I'd like to imagine since the Sonic Mania trailer says it's Spring 2017, it'll be available for the NX launch as well.  Since it's being done by a different team then Project Sonic maybe they thought they couldn't reveal it's an NX game since Nintendo hasn't announced the system yet while the Project Sonic team didn't care?  I mean it's a retro 2D platformer staring Sonic, two things that sell the best by far on Nintendo platforms so Sega wouldn't be that stupid not to release it on the NX, especially at launch when hype will be highest?

Then again this is the same company that hired the developers of Pokemon to make a 2D Donkey Kong County platformer staring a cartoon elephant and then released it on every platform, except Nintendo ones, you know the platforms with the majority of the audience for said title.  And of course said game sells like **** since you know, the audience for it is an Nintendo platforms which Sega refused to release it on.

So I'd like to remain optimistic that Sonic Mania will also be hitting the NX as well but considering Sega's long continued history of dumb decisions, I'll keep my fingers crossed until I see the official announcement.

Looking at their resumes, I don't think Christian Whitehead and Pagoda West are the kind of devs who get dev kits in advance. I also don't think Sega has their hands directly tied to this project aside from overseeing it and protecting their IP. I fully expect Sonic Mania to be on NX but like many of us, Whitehead and Pagoda West are like, yo:
Title: Re: Official NX Game Announcements

Sure, I expect Sonic Mania on NX for reasons already stated. It just seems odd for Sega to announce one for NX without the other. Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and Pagoda West may not get development kits in advance, but Sega is the publisher. It knows which platforms it wants to release Sonic Mania. I'd suggest maybe Nintendo asked Sega not to mention NX except Sega announced Project Sonic 2017 for NX so the whole thing is just confusing to me.

One thing I think would be cool is if NX is the only platform that gets a physical release... on a cartridge and the special edition is packaged in a Genesis-inspired box.

That Sonic Mania trailer is over 9000x cooler than the Sonic 2017 one.

If Mania is any good it will eventually show up on NX.

That would be really cool. Seems like the kind of thing that would happen only in Japan... I really wish Nintendo would instigate things like this, though.

The only thing I can think of is Nintendo wants to keep its launch details as much of a secret as possible. With Mania coming right at the NX's launch window maybe they don't want Sega spilling the beans. Not Generations 2 coming whenever? Meh.

Why make the financial investment for a game like this and then "skimp" on localizing it to markets waaay bigger? Does Dragon Quest really get that little love in other regions?
Title: Re: Official NX Game Announcements

The market for MMOs is shrinking by the day, and the platforms DQX is on would be dead, dead, not suitable because it's streaming, and already served by FFXIV. (Wii, Wii U, 3DS, PS4). Add that to the fact that Dragon Quest games are still never guaranteed to be localized (witness the three year wait for VII) and X is below the bottom of the Squenix priority list for localization.

Here you go, ShyGuy.

Dragon Quest XI was being thought about for NX, but it seems it's actually in development and Square Enix is wanting to try to release simultaneously with the 3DS and PS4 versions. Will it be more like the 3DS, PS4 version, or something entirely different to suit the NX?

Yep. Each installment is independent from the others. Just things like slimes and other notable monsters appear in each game. You have a 3DS, so definitely check out DQVII when it releases in Australia!

While a lot of fuzz is being made about Bethesda not committing to Skyrim on Switch (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2016-10-20-nintendo-switch-officially-revealed) it should be noted that besides Breath of the Giant Mechanical Spider in the Will Smith movie Wild Wild West, no other game has been officially confirmed. Nintendo has not said anything about the Mario Kart, Splatoon or 3D Mario footage. Ditto 2K games about NBA 2k17 being on Switch.

That really only confirms my hesitance. Seeing Bethesda and Epic on the partner list is a big deal to someone like myself, and this message from Bethesda is only confirmation of what I'm already leery of: lack of western 3rd party support. In the past, these developers have been very lukewarm to Nintendo's meak hardware.

No, they're going to release a separate handheld that only plays the new pokemon game on it sort of like old school Game & Watches that were one game per unit. If that doesn't work, then they'll just release them on mobile phones after Pokémon Go showed what a success that could be. In the end, a main Pokémon game must never be released on a console. That was the agreement Nintendo signed with Sony, Sega and Microsoft to make the videogame market a fair fight.

Well, yeah. Nintendo is arrogant like that. They said they could beat them all with one hand tied behind their back. And then they did while using the other hand to swing a Wiimote. Ha ha ha! Nintendo is just toying with their competition. They know they could run easily defeat and decimate them all. But they've done that already and having no competition in a game makes it lose its appeal. Nintendo is made of gamers. They're just making a game out of the market and having fun with the challenges they come up with to compete against everyone despite the advantages they let the competition have and the handicap they put on themselves.

C'mon, this isn't like that Wii U E3 sizzle real.

Skyrim is prominently featured in the friggin' switch reveal video and Bethesda is listed as one of the developers onboard. There's absolutely no way that isn't a real game. I have no idea why Nintendo wouldn't let them officially announce the game, but as was pointed out they haven't even officially announced anything besides Zelda, which was already announced. We also haven't seen any other companies come out and announce Switch titles. They appear to be holding back until the full launch showcase, for whatever reason. Hopefully it's soon.

Well...

I just rewatched the Wii U sizzle reel from E3 2012. Dirt, Alien: Colonial Marines, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online, and Metro: Last Light never made it to Wii U. All four were shown right in a row after Darksiders 2. In the case of Metro: Last Light, its developer, 4A Games, even openly mocked Wii U before the port was cancelled.

Right now, to be fair, this is almost exactly like the Wii U E3 2012 sizzle reel. I can't see NBA 2K17 releasing on Switch. The season is almost over at that point. It's encouraging that Bethesda is even on record to support Switch, but after it backtracked on confirming Skyrim, I'm not ready to believe the game is really coming to Switch until pretty much when I see it in stores. The reaction to portable Skyrim has made the most noise out of any of these games from the reveal trailer so that's something.

I think Nintendo ought to go hard after these games. Frankly, I can't believe they would promote their hardware with games that don't even make it to release for their system.

Would say, a Fallout 4 GOTY release (that hopefully frickin' works) be an acceptable substitute for Skyrim if it came to it?

Why wouldn't they show that then? It just seems completely illogical if Skyrim doesn't come to NX, especially considering it was the No.2 game they ever showed for the system.

I actually don't want 3rd parties to do what they did for the Wii U.  If you are just releasing an old port.  STOP don't do it.   If you are releasing the same game at the same time as the others...then go ahead with the port.  But if you release a port that is 6 months to a year old on a new system that doesn't have a proven user base you are not going to get the sales results you expect....and it won't be the systems fault it will be yours.

Well my brother in law in the business works for a company whose name is not on that list but he confirmed they are making something for the system. He won't say what of course but he said as of right now they can confirm there are working on something. But from my past discussions with him not fishing but knowing him, for his studio to be excited for the system is HUGE because they all mocked Wii and Wii U and they are not mocking this. He also has connections within other studios and said they all feel the same way there is no mocking going on behind the scenes as per usual so that is something. Again its one guys observations. He is a low level guy he is what you call a rigger which is nothing special but he has worked on AAA titles for the others and if he says he is excited for this then that is something.

His feelings are Nintendo has a hit on their hands and were wise to keep the lid on because MS and Sony are both in a position to steal their thunder and Nintendo was waiting to make sure MS and Sony were firmly locked into the incremental upgrades before showing their hand because it makes it harder for the other two to change directions now. This way if they other two want to copy this it would be no better than their half assed attempt to get in on Motion controls only they both have machines and tech on the market that could be adapted to this sort of thing and its too late for them to turn either of those around without backing away from their new consoles on the way.

Anyways its not much but I get the impression the game my in law is working on will be a western exclusive or western style action game. Only because I know what he has worked on before and what his team does. Not western as in cowboys and Indians I mean American style action game.

Funny how much attention LEGO City Undercover has gotten recently, right?  :)

I'm kind of torn on this one in a way.  Genuinely felt the game was one of the Wii U's best exclusives... of course, very few third party exclusives stay that way, and it never did quite seem to get the broad audience it deserved. Gamepad stuff wasn't ever (I think) necessary so shouldn't be that hard to fix, but it was a bonus and I'll kind of miss it.  Here's hoping for shorter load times!

That alone to me would be worth the justification of porting it.  If the load times could be reduced to a small fraction of the time they are now, it'd make the game SO much more playable.

I was disappointed to see that Stardew Valley was cancelled for the Wii U.  I think it would have sold well given that there's nothing else coming out on Wii U, it's had such good reviews, and the Harvest Moon games always seemed to do fairly well on Nintendo consoles but I'm sure they did the math and figured that it wouldn't be worth it.

I've decided not to wait longer to get Stardew Valley so I'm going to pick it up for PC.  Steam has it on sale for $9.99 right now, so why not...

Rumor has it from a pretty solid source (http://letsplayvideogames.com/2016/12/report-dark-souls-3-running-on-switch-from-software-considering-trilogy-rerelease/) that From Software has Dark Souls 3 running and are happy with the performance.

Quote
According to one of our sources, From Software has Dark Souls 3 running on the Nintendo Switch with a level of performance they are happy with. They have not committed to releasing it yet, but discussions internally at the company have discussed the financial viability of re releasing the main three Dark Souls titles on the Switch with their DLC bundled in.
Development on a Switch port has been underway for several months via a small team, with From Software waiting to see initial sales data before committing to producing ports. The plan would be for a Switch rerelease of Dark Souls 3 if greenlit to release the same day as PS4, Xbox One and PC receive versions with all DLC included.

Hopefully, provided the sales data looks favorable, that last sentence implies they would release Dark Souls 3 with all DLC for Switch the same day as PS4, Xbox One, etc.

This is sounding positive.

Screenshots look pretty great if they're legit. I'm telling you though, the Tegra chip in the Switch is no joke. This is a game (Talos Principle) running the Nvidia Shield Android TV at 1080p, and it's a port of a PC game, not running with the Vulkan API (which I would imagine, every Nintendo Switch game will use).

*Disclaimer: This is not a Nintendo Switch game!*

Do these guys have dev kits? I see this Seasons of Heaven pop up but all it makes me think is this is running off the pc, and they just want to make a switch game, and they're just making it in unreal. They could bait and switch. Use Switch hype to get attention to it, and then release it on ps4 and xbox one and never switch. If that is the case then this game is coming out too.

Mostly I guess I'm waiting for that big Launch Window Software Library reveal, which would admittedly still change afterwords as games miss deadlines, but at least give me an idea of what I'm excited for in the first two or three months of the Switch. I feel like a whole bunch of titles we've been talking about are NOT hitting launch, and so are of little use to me in my immediate goal of mapping out the first half of 2017.

You are right.  It is the animation of the boy and dog.  It doesn't feel natural.  Why is the boy walking holding his backpack like that?  It just doesn't feel organic at all.  When it comes to natural animation, nobody does it better than Naughty Dog.  I am always impressed the little details of the characters interacting with the world that make it feel real.  This animation feels like it is taking place on top of the world not within the world.

I did see something a couple of days ago about the manager of Epic Games Japan supposedly saying that a lot of Unreal Engine 4 games are coming to Switch. (http://nintendoeverything.com/many-unreal-engine-built-games-on-the-way-to-switch-rep-says/) The interview is in Japanese and I'm not sure what the quality of Nintendo Everything's translations is like (I'm assuming it's theirs since they didn't link to another site), but this announcement certainly lends a little more credence to the whole idea.

Title: Re: Official Switch Game Announcements
Post by: Khushrenada on January 10, 2017, 04:18:37 AM
I guess this Mario / Rabbids RPG is a thing since every "leak" constantly mentions it. If it is, the footage this Thursday better blow me away because I just don't think it's a good idea.

Also, if that is what the hype of the January 12th event is. Then why the **** didn't they just announce stuff in October?

That reminds me of when there was the recent leaker who announced things like the New Super Mario Bros. Show and that Nintendo would have a whole N-Sports thing going on. The leaker listed this as the launch games for the switch:

-Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (NIS America) -Dissidia Versus: Final Fantasy (Square Enix Co. Ltd.) -Dragon Quest X: Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online (Square Enix) -Earth Defense Force 5 (Marvelous Inc) -The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Remastered (Bethesda Softworks) -FiFA Anywhere 18 (EA Sports) -For Honor (Ubisoft) -Just Dance 2017 Platinum Edition (Ubisoft) -LEGO Dimensions (Warner Bros. Interactive) -LEGO City: The Chase Begins (Warner Bros. Interactive) -Mario RPG: Rabbids Invasion (Nintendo/Ubisoft) -Mass Effect Andromeda (EA) -Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost ON (Bandai Namco Games) -Monster Hunter XX Switch (Capcom) -NBA 2k17 March Madness Edition (2K Games) -Overwatch (Activision) -Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (Capcom) -South Park: The Fractured But Whole (Ubisoft) -Splatoon ReFresh (Nintendo) -STEEP (Ubisoft) -Super Mario Switcharoo (Nintendo) -Sangokushi 14 (Koei Tecmo) -Tales of Berseria (Bandai Namco Games) -Tekken 7 (Bandai Namco Games) -Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands (Ubisoft) -Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 (Capcom) -Valkyria: Azure Revolution (SEGA) -Yooka-Laylee (Team17)

And, quite frankly, that list underwhelms me. Frankly, in any system launch, there's usually maybe up to 3 titles I may be interested in or would want to purchase. I get that the idea is to diversify and have a lot of different titles to interest more consumers but that diversity will mean a bunch of titles I don't care about and most big titles and games come out way later than launch anyways.

For me, this upcoming Switch event is more about hoping to hear about a few other games that will be coming after the launch and later into the year as there will be more franchises and games I probably care about that way than at launch. But most likely, most of those announcements will be saved for their E3 videos later this year. The other thing is to just finally have Nintendo announce all the features of the Switch and end whatever speculation may still exist (although I'm sure fighting over potential hardware specs will still continue on past the event.)

Yacht Club Games has announced Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (http://yachtclubgames.com/2017/01/switch-up/) for Switch. Sounds like Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is the game everyone owns right now which includes all the campaigns (and will continue getting updates). Yacht Club Games is also going to start selling each campaign as a standalone game in the near future (hence the renaming of the original package which includes everything).

Yup. It basically boils down to whether you want to buy everything, or just want the expansions on Switch (since they've announced that the price is increasing). Wii U will still get all the updates as well.

From the FAQ:
Quote
If I own Shovel Knight on another platform, can I get the game on a new platform like the Nintendo Switch for free?
No, but that’s part of the reason we’re making these changes! Hopefully, it’ll be easier to jump in on a new campaign on any system of your choosing.

Quote
Why aren’t the standalone versions launching on all platforms?
Our goal is to provide the standalones on the most current gen systems (ones you’re most likely to switch to play new content).

They might get the same content, but no other gamers are switching over to Switch other than Wii U owners. This re-release pretty much only applies to Switch, not xBone or PS4, and let's be honest, Wii U owners are likely the only people jumping ship to another console at this point.

I already have Shovel Knight on Wii U, I'm not buying it again. Partially because I don't think it's good, but whatever.

If it's anything like the recent Momotaro Dentetsu game for the 3DS, Nintendo might be behind this game.  In the case of Momotaro Dentetsu there hadn't been a game in over 7 years since Konami killed Hudson but Nintendo went and got the rights from Konami to have a new game made.  Maybe Nintendo is paying for this in which case I'll be all over it just to hopefully send the message to Nintendo to start going after more IP's that Konami is just sitting on.

Oh and **** yeah at Sonic Mania coming to the Switch.  I know many assumed it'd come but Sega isn't exactly the brightest bulb in the world so I kept my fingers crossed.  Good thing it's been confirmed so Nintendo fans can get their retro Sonic done right fix as well.

Source: https://twitter.com/TheSwitchCast/status/822934476204507136

I'm happy to see Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII and Nobunaga's Ambition. I found it a slight bit concerning when all we saw from Koei-Tecmo was Fire Emblem Warriors.

I also saw confirmation that NIS has several more titles in progress for the Switch in addition to Disgaea 5.

Now if only Switch could have the latest Madden football game, it would look fairly complete.

I thought I recalled that too, but Capcom's comments indicated this was some new feature to the game -- maybe it was in reference to the SNES. Either way, I already own it on Xbox LIVE and it's like $3 on PSN right now. There's no way I'd give $40 for it.

Expect it to be a budget title within 6 months. ;)

Kinda hoping for that.  I'd pay for the DLC of the battle mode and inklings, but $60 is too much for a game I already own with a very modest increase in content.

Nintendo could care less. Do you think they're going to give you a deal on Breath of the Wild for Switch if you bought it from the Wii U eShop? Activision and EA have away (maybe it was $10...Don't remember) upgrades to the Xbone and PS4 versions of Call of Duty Ghosts and Battlefield 4 if you bought the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions...Nintendo knows people will pay for the same game twice.

Yes, they had a battle mode ready three years ago and decided to gimp their own game and get a criticism and lost sales for it.

More over, when they where doing DLC tracks for the game they kept putting aside ready Battle mode tracks and instead put even more effort into creating other tracks.

What I meant was it was planned as DLC after the track packs but it was so late in the life cycle for the system (or was taking so much work to implement) they may have decided to save it. In no way am I suggesting that they had it complete and just sat on it.

So Ultra Street Fighter 2 actually really is more than a port. News emerged this week of a first-person mode and a 250-page art gallery. Not sure what the first-person mode actually is, but I'm hearing it's anything from a first-person fighting game to a first-person shooting gallery mode (featuring ha-do-ken's?). Either way, it's additional content using the joycons. Could be interesting.

That... unfortunately, is so bad that I feel unsold from the game. Did they really tack that on just so they can justify the cash grab??

EDIT: I guess this is only 50% through development? Maybe we can expect it to improve. It still seems like a really shallow, superficial mode. I'd rather have the game for $15 ($20 at most) and scrap the motion control mode.

These are far from official, but hearing a couple of really solid rumors. One is highly unsurprising in that Capcom wants to bring Resident Evil to the Switch. The other concerns Square and the desire to bring FFXIV to Switch.

Paying more for what will likely be the worst looking/running version of the game seems off, but I do like the physical release.  I might wait for it to have a price drop, although it will likely be a small fraction of the price on PC by then.  Given the price of Bomberman and Tetris, it makes sense that Indies would see a chance to charge more on the Switch.  If they don't sell well, the price will come down.

The producer of Sonic 2006?

No, in that case, the city would be super flat and have random canals going through and have rooftops that make you jitter back and fourth as you snap to the 'gravity" of your sloped roof.

Seriously, though, we're arguing the practicality of urban environments in a series that regularly features bumpers and loop de loos in their highway infrastructure and an abstract land made of music instruments existing in the same world as literally San Francisco. It's not even like City Escape and Music Plant are from two different eras of Sonic. Heck, I'm pretty sure those two games could hook up via GBA/GCN cables!

Yeah, but Clex, Forces shares a Producer with Sonic 2006.

I'm going to go on the record stating that 3D Sonic peaked with Sonic Adventure 2, and that Sonic Colors has been the only game in recent years that was actually good, for two reasons: It was mostly in 2D, and that it rewarded the player with Boost energy stringently and many of its platforming challenges required management of that resource in order to obtain rewards.

I do think that some of the control aspects of the Unleashed style of 3D gameplay were very good- drifting around corners was especially nice, as were quick-steps, but boosting adds nothing except ramming through enemies, and when enemies can be easily defeated in such a way, it trivializes their inclusion. The only games that used a boost mechanic properly were Rush, Rush Adventure, and Colors, the former two challenging the player to memorize stage layouts and maximize their air and rail time in order to keep their boost chain up so that they could keep going fast.

I'll also say that Sonic Lost World had a great control system that was marred by absolutely atrocious level design.

I'm going to go on the record stating that 3D Sonic peaked with Sonic Adventure 2,

I can get behind that. SA2 was a big reason why I still cared about Sonic games into the Wii years.

I think the difference is that Sonic Adventure 2 was made to try and hopefully sell Dreamcast systems whereas, today, Sonic games are made to try and hopefully sell anything.

Post by: Luigi Dude on March 20, 2017, 11:27:48 PM
The first 20 hours of Radiant Historia are amazing.  It has a great battle system that's constantly changing and adding new things to the mix.  The problem is they stop introducing new mechanics around the 20 hour mark and then it drags on for another 20 hours that just reuse the same content and enemies over and over again.  The final 10 hours of the game go back to being amazing again when they go all out in the last area so it ends strong at least.

I would still heavily recommend it though since the story is great.  Even when the gameplay started to drag the story was strong enough to make me want to keep playing.  Of course one word of warning, anyone that wants to go the True Ending needs to use a guide since one of the side quest required to get it is impossible for anyone to do without it.

Square Enix announced that it's launching in Japan on June 1 for 4,800 yen (both physical and digital). Seiken Densetsu 2 and 3 support multiplayer with up to three people, which seems like a perfect fit with the the Switch.

It doesn't seem like people are too hopeful for a release in the West, but, **** it, we region-free now. This is going to be my first import game. The box art (http://www.jp.square-enix.com/company/ja/news/images/PKG.jpg) looks gorgeous!

Oh yeah, and possible Radiant Historia on Switch is neat too, I guess. The DS game is still on my RPG list of shame. I've had the game for years without playing it.

Considering that the first two games already have English translations and the physical release, maybe we will see it over here! Gonna cross my fingers for it.

At the very least, hopefully they include English language options for the first two games in the Japanese release. If Nintendo really wants to ingratiate themselves with niche gamers, they could step in and make it happen by offering to translate and publish it in the West (like they did with seemingly every Square Enix 3DS RPG that eventually came out here). I don't know how much work that would actually entail for the third game though.

That Radiant Historia thing is for 3DS so never mind then.

Shame. Is it a sequel?

Remaster with additional content, if I read it right.

I would have been all over that for Switch, but just not all that keen on buying it for 3DS, since I still have the original DS title I could play.
