Big Octos Wind Waker HD

I swear I never had this much trouble getting the Big Octos to appear in the original. I know you have you follow the seagulls flying in a circle and it's supposed to show up automatically, but nothing happens. I've only been able to get the one that frees the Great Fairy who grants double magic. I really just want the two that give heart pieces.


Am I missing something?

I was stuck on this for days. I post this topic and twenty minutes later, I sail into a Big Octo. Sure, I'll take it.

Yeah. I can't ever remembering there being any reason for the octos to not appear. Unless the game requires you to talk to the man with the spyglass first or acquire the big octo map but I was pretty sure they just popped up when you came over their spot. Only other theory I can thing of is if you need to acquire some sort of weapon like bombs first.
