Title: Guess the poster
Post by: Mario on February 14, 2006, 11:19:22 PM
I'll start off with an easy one

Quote

That's the problem. The big games for the North American audience are all sequels. Why buy a DS to play Castlevania or Mario Kart when I can play those games on the GBA which is much cheaper? In Japan it's different. Nintendogs and Brain Training have done incredibly well. Those games don't exist on any other system ever so you HAVE to buy a DS for them. System sellers are typically new games with new experiences. "Hey come buy all the games you bought last time" doesn't sell systems. It sure as hell didn't sell Gamecubes.

In North America Nintendo needs something unique to really grab people. So far I've noticed with the DS that the "traditional games" are all sequels and franchise stuff while the "non-games" are new. Nintendo has been of the idea that their franchises are everything so they probably think that franchises and sequels are good enough to attract the traditional group. But that's a flawed plan. It requires the non-gamer strategy to really take off. In Japan it has but in North America it hasn't really yet. After all the whole plan was in response to the market in Japan so it makes sense why it would work well there but not here. Here the "people getting bored of games" arguement doesn't make sense. It's quite the opposite here. So Nintendo has a problem where their new content, the games that are supposed to be the system sellers, are all non-games so if non-games don't take off in North America they've got nothing but a bunch of sequels which will make it harder to find a system seller.

The GBA doesn't help. After all if the DS isn't providing that much different for traditional gamers then the GBA itself having the GBA in stores is going to give people even more of an excuse to buy the old system.

It's not a really drastic situation but it's something Nintendo has to keep in mind. Traditional gamers are not going to be content to just play the same old stuff over again.

I've wanted to see Spirited Away for a while, but that little girls voice is so friggin' annoying. I can't even watch the commercials it hurts my ears so much.

Anyway, I made my avatar in Paint to go with my name, which I've been using for almost 3 years now. A few of my friends didn't even know I made it- they thought I got it from some cartoon mouse website. I didn't intend on it, but the way I made the eyes it looks kind of crazy, or scared. Thanks to Gamefreak for formatting and hosting it for me.

and to think - if these forums had a search feature, this game wouldn't be possible...

I have hit my 1000th post! This is a big landmark for me, as I am now in QUADRUPLE-DIGITS! Now, there are people like Grey Ninja and PIAC who have closer the 3000, but I'm on my way! Let us partake in a celebratory hive-five!

*hi-fives everybody*

That was fun! Now for those of you who brought their own booze, drink up!

*doesn't drink*

And now I will tell you a brief history of my life at the PGC forums.
________________________________________________________

When I first came here, I was known as "[edited for content]" and I am currently under the name of "[edited for content]." This was my first and only forum at the time, and to this day, it is the only one I post in more than once a month.

When I first came here, I was unfamiliar with the terminology. People often used the word "thread" but for a while the definition had eluded me. But as I progressed in my PGC career, I learned what not only what "thread" meant, but also some essential acronyms such as: LOL, LMAO, ROTFL, BTW, OMG, OMFG, IMO, WTF and some others, I'm sure.

My first avatar was one of Homestarrunner, a popular "no-arms wiley" from the hilarious flash site www.homestrrunner.com. But that one was soon replaced by a lovely message stating "I like to steal bandwidth from others." I then was avatar-less for a while, until I got my next avatar off of some hosting site. Some people may remember this avatar as "GIR riding a piggy"

After the hosting site went down, I got smartness and opened an Angelfire account.

I had my fair share of posting in multiple sections and pointless threads, but since then I seem to have gotten…umm…better.

When I was starting to get bored around here, I joined in the wacky-crazy-loonyness that is the Aussie thread. Since then, I have become a regular poster there. I have accumulated most of my posts in the Aussie thread and General Chat. I am now legally insane. Thank you, the Aussies.

Often times, I have encountered many problems and error messages on my computer. When this happened, I would turn to the town drunkard, Grey Ninja, for help. He has helped me on numerous occasions, and also has inspired me to purchase Xenogears and Metal Gear Solid for my PS, both of which I am happy with. He is also the reason I got Morrowind to work on my crappity-crap PC. Thanks you stupid drunk jerk.

I often PM people about the size of their avatars. Most people thank me for this and change them quickly. Only once have I been flamed by another person, and that person happened to be a “VIP.” Since then, I have not seen this VIP post. I think I scared her away. Tee-hee.

Throughout my stay here, I have a more sophisticated taste in videogames, and I am now a big fan of anime.

Other stuff happened too.

_____________________________________________________

The reason I have stuck with PGC is the reason most people despise it. The mods. I welcome the mods and think they do a great job keepinf the forums clean. People say this site is strict, but it makes it more fun to visit. I don’t want to see huge banner avatars that take up the whole screen, and I don’t want stupid racist punks swearing at me in “AOL talk.”

I like the number of members, too. People say that it’s small, but it creates a sense of community that I really like. When I visit other forums I feel like an outsider, but from day one I felt welcome here. I think it may be the color scheme. The forums may not be too active, but that makes me look forward to any new posts.

I plan on staying here and continuing to post regularly and I hope I can bring my post count up well into the thousands. And in the words of PIAC,

“I WILL SAY SOMETHING USEFUL ONE DAY.”

~Thank you~

P.S. I know I promised a song, but my friend with the microphone has decided to take a little vacation to New Hampshire. I’ll get the song up ASAP, but I don’t have a clue when that will be.

Bill, I didn't answer yours because you edited your post later to add your quote.  When I first started posting the next quote you hadn't given yours yet.  And the reason I still haven't answered it is because I haven't the fainest idea who said that.

EDIT:  Since we have no open guess the poster entries besides the two which no one knows, here's a blast from the past.

Mods- I'm dead serious here, so there's no need to lock.

I've heard several people (can't speak for this forum) worry and think the Revolution won't be something truely revolutionsary.

Well, I've recently talked to a developer who is working on Revolution software, and out of desperity (sp), I asked him if he could give any Revolution details.

And it worked. Currently, I know the media format and even about a Revolution game. (I promised him I wouldn't tell any of the big details he gave me)

But the developer told me that the Revolution, is in fact, going to be revolutionary, which is basically the message I'm getting across here.

So there's no need to worry; Revolution is going to be here to kick @$$ and take names.

I don't know if any of you have figured this out, but this thread is a piece of cake, even without a proper search function. Just go to Google and type in..

" site:planetgamecube.com/forums xxxx"

(your phrase) - you need the space before "site"

I don't think it works for every single thread, but most of them anyway. That's what I use when I want to find a thread lost in the board - very useful.

My dear gaming elite, what has transpired in my absence? Must i return to simple rhetoric and mundane 'findings', such as 'Nintendo is in trouble!' and 'What Nintendo needs is...'. As recent as 20 human years ago, Nintendo saved the gaming 'religion' from extinction. The N64 was a grave mistake, if i may join the previously ridiculed 'What has Nintendo f'd up' game. Many great empires have doused themselves in a gasoline of arrogance. By believing the 'lemmings' would lap up whatever they released, they prevented themselves an opportunity to widen their dominance. In some respects, they were right. The software sales for the AAA games were better than any on another console. Sadly, they were too few or too far between. The Playstation, AKA beezlebub, beat the N64 to the punch, and with the more conveniant media , the compact disc, made the game creating process much easier for developers. The cartridge went the way of the dinosaur, blown out of the water by the new gaming gods. So, here we are. 6 years have elapsed since that fatal error, and what has Nintendo done? They have set the table for their return to dominance. By being more aggressive, Nintendo now has major developers back on the bandwagon. Maybe not completely, but thats what the 'N5' is for. The GC was the framework. The 'N5' will be the 'rapture'. With a new youthful leader now in charge, Nintendo is poised to take on the gaming world head on, with aggression, something they were missing since the NES days of old. When you are not challenged, you become complacent, content. When the star dims , thats the test of ones toughness. Nintendo is back on track, and they're looking to reclaim the lost souls of '96-2003.

Hey guys, this thread is kind of useless if no one actually guesses the poster

We have a backlog of unanswered quotes; mine (before the Odama one), vudu's, two of my other ones, and TVMan's (he should be ban'd for his ambiguous nature). Why don't we make it so that if after a week or so the quote is unanswered, the poster should tell us who it is?

Anyway, here's another one, from a poster that has been lost for a while (I often wonder what happened to him..), and it was written **don't look, as it makes finding it easier** prE3 2005 before the VC was announced

The "emulators" comment is intentionally somewhat vague. Usually, one would refer to what Nintendo is most likely to do as "middleware." That is, software that takes care of much of the heavy lifting on the programming side of things. I think, however, that putting emulators on there might be a good idea. More specifically, I think it would be advantageous for Nintendo to expand it's library as much as possible by offering emulators for NES, SNES, N64, and if they can manage to make the deals, Sega Genesis and more. Offer the ROMS electronically distributed (fully encrypted with a crucial chunk of the ROM missing - requiring a brief download from Nintendo's servers in order to play - Hell, the entirety of NES ROMs could be considered the "chunk"). The key to keeping piracy of the ROMs down would, of course, be to sell them cheap - $5, but better less. Providing people with the tools to make fun new games inexpensively is also key. I'm not talking about fully blown dev kits, but dev tools for a specialized 2D "emulator" that would make puzzle games, board games, and games like Alien Hominid easy to make - justifying selling it at $10 or less electronically

My dear gaming elite, what has transpired in my absence? Must i return to simple rhetoric and mundane 'findings', such as 'Nintendo is in trouble!' and 'What Nintendo needs is...'. Lets take a look at the not so long ago history of your favorite video game company, Nintendo. As recent as 8 human years ago, Nintendo was number 1 in the world. As for the second post, I honestly don't remember who said that.  (Remember, I posted this way back in May.)  If someone guesses I'll look it up and see if I can find it.

The only thing covered by insurance (with a 500 dollar deductable) was the car stereo stuff because that was mounted in the car.  That equated to about a 600 dollar check for me.

You know, before I thought you were just positing the most ridiculous straw man I've ever encountered, but now I realize you really, truly believe that a negative attitude towards a console name represents a complete abhorrence of all humanity. This demonstrates two things. First, the reification of your own emotional response to a monosyllable such that anyone who does not share it must possess a set of beliefs bordering on psychosis. Second, the complete lack of what psychologists call modulation and proportion, a symptom characteristic of cult members and schizophrenics.

Here's (at least I think) an easy one.
Quote

The first time I played A Link to the Past it was a used copy with no manual and I didn't know anything about the game except that is was supposed to be great. As a result I initially assumed that after getting the Master Sword and fighting Agahnim that the game would be over. Keep in the mind at the time I had only played action related titles so the length didn't seem too short to me. Imagine my surprise when I found out the game was not even half over and that there was a whole parallel world to see. Now that was exceptional since that was mentioned in the manual so it wouldn't have been a huge spoiler to know that ahead of time but it remains one of my most memorable game moments. Because of this I'm of the idea that manuals should be like two pages long and describe only the bare bone essentials.

1) Wheels are, by most definitions, circular without corners
2) Squares are, by most definitions, rectangles with four sides of equal length (and thus four 90 deg corners)

Thus the statement is both an oxymoron and pleonasm

I'll start off with an easy oneKI3 was probably "promised" with more than a dash of sarcasm on Scribes or something.  I really don't think Kameo will change platforms AGAIN (GC->Xbox already).  Honestly, it could be released near/after the Xbox 360 launch--MS claims it will support Xbox until 2007 (lol yeah right) but saving Kameo would be one way to back up that hollow claim.

You guys will never guess this one... it will shock you and maybe even get me BANNED!!

Here we go...

I have a sick, sick mind.  So I commonly think of awful things and (typically) make people choose between one of two cases or such.

Today, I think I came up with the worst idea ever.

Taking pictures of, say, 8 year old girls and boys, in the nude, is illegal - child pornography.

Now, if the 8 year olds are dead, they're still 8 years old - and nude photos of them would still be illegal.

But, let's say we can have these corpses perfectly preserved for 10 years - and presto, they're over 18 - and thus it would be legal to take nude photos of the bodies.

The idea is to create a website of 100% legal child-like porn.   All of the proceeds will go to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital (Probably the absolute best charitiable cause ever and one that I do seriously donate to and would highly reccomend everyone else doing the same)

I was also considering attaching stings to the bodies to create "sex" videos.  Then, I considered letting live people have sex with the corpses for video.  Finally, I decided on both.

OMG WTF!!!

I fully expect this post and the originating post to be nuked from existence....

Is that phone booth from Dr. Who or Bill and Ted?
Hint: It's not a phone booth.
Technically they both really are.

Which know makes the question why do Phone carrying Boxes make superb Time Machines?  Much Like why do toasters make such great points for dimensions to other realms?

I personally like Unclebob and Insanolord and I don't have a problem with the job they are doing. I find them very fair and lenient.

That's me, right? I'm often very self-congratulatory and arrogant and refer to myself in the third person.

I recognize my own writing. It's so much better than anything in Talkback. Ha ha ha!

A compliment. For Insano. From Khush.

This is really where the analog of me being Dave and Khush being Bill comes in. Over the course of NewsRadio, there are instances where things get serious and Bill is forced to admit that he really likes and respects Dave, and the way he behaves 98% of the time is just an act, brought on by nicotine deficiencies and extremely old sandwiches.

Sure Dave. And if you ever tell anyone about Steel Magnolias, I’ll kill you. It would take a robot not to cry at that movie!
