The 90's Arcade Racer is headed to the Wii U's eShop with Nicalis as publisher.
The racer is currently being funded through Kickstarter, a process that began in early January. As the name suggests, the title's creator, Antonis Pelekanos, is developing the title with arcade racers of the 1990's serving as his influences. The game is a single-player racer where you compete against AI drivers. It will provide an online leaderboard where players can compete for best times against friends and other players. The developer cites games like Sega's Daytona USA as inspiration, and takes a noticeably "wacky" approach to its track design, one of which takes place in a dinosaur park.
Nicalis announced their plans as the game's publisher today, and have noted that their responsibilities will be "working on the Unity programming, physics, tuning and general design and production of the game." Nicalis' Tyrone Rodriguez said this allows Pelekanos to focus on art and other important aspects of the game during it's development.
While the game was originally working towards the goal of £10,000 ($15,664.00), it has since exceeded that, and has raised £11,451 ($17926.54). A £10 ($15.65) pledge currently nets a download copy of the game for PC, Linux, and Mac.
