Episode 5: TGS 2011 SPECIAL
« on: September 22, 2011, 02:29:12 AM »

Hear about all the worthwhile games from the show - plus a special guest!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/famicast/27915

As you'd expect this episode is all about the Tokyo Games Show 2011, where James.C, Danny and the newest member of the team (revealed in this episode) were in full force covering all the major Nintendo platform games at the show. First, JC talks about the Square Enix games, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts 3D, then moves on to Cave Story and Rhythm Thief (which EBA fans will love) and a few more little games here and there. Danny gives the full story of what the show was like on the public days. Plus hear the full story of how he almost got to play Monster Hunter Tri G. Leading on from that, there's the inevitable chat about the Slide Pad attachment, which Danny got to use. This leads to discussion about how this could actually improve the gameplay experience for some upcoming 3DS games.

Next, the guys cover a little bit of news, mainly focusing on Monster Hunter coming to the 3DS and what that means for gamers (mainly in Japan) and the handheld as a whole.

Finally, this episode, the Famicast crew tackles listener mail and gets to read a shout out on the air. It could be from YOU! Also tune in to find out how to enter this months contest and what is up for grabs.

If you have any questions or comments for the Japan crew, stop by our forum thread or email us directly. We will try to answer all of your questions, with the best questions appearing on the show.

Famicast a go-go, baby!

Something's definitely wrong with the audio file. It's not downloading or streaming, just an endless buffer. Hope to listen to it soon!

I can confirm that the itunes works.

It's a shame to hear MGS is so inconsistant and awkward. It has definitely put a bit of a dampener.

Well done snagging Billy while he was in Japan, it was a definite surprise.

Also a game that you can play with yourself? :D

Lastly, did the question(s) on the forum thread count or should I send it in form of an E-mail? Would like me to expand the question a bit more?

What are you taking your photos with anyway? The shutter speed is way too slow which is blurring everything but the stillest shots and letting in too much light giving everything an artificial bloom. You're not using the 3DS are you? That thing needs to be stabilised and configured for every shot. If you are, no 3D?

Resident Evil 4 (it is now on 4 different platforms so it would be easy to pick up)

Any unanswered questions, including ones asked before the show went live, will be considered - no worries!  :D

You can send us a mail, or write a question on the Japan crew thread, either way we'll catch it.

@oohboy - Once we knew Billy was coming to TGS, we set up the meeting as soon as we could! Glad you appreciate it!
Are you referring to the show pictures? It was just taken with my crappy camera. The low light settings and bright lights everywhere make it difficult to take super sharp pictures with it... The 3DS would have taken photos unrecognisable by the human eye!

It's always a pleasant surprise to find a new Famicast on the feed. Thanks for the first-hand reports, and thanks especially for Danny's epic quest to land a Monster Hunter demo spot. Question for Danny: when you were running to get in line, was it a normal run, or a Monster-Hunter-High-Step? This may answer why they didn't let you get in...

Next time don't use the low light mode (It was unnecessary, in real low light situations your boned anyway and the view finder lies) and adjust the contrast and brightness levels in post using GIMP or Photoshop or iPhoto. Also take multiple pictures of the same subject when possible, even if you're "happy" with the first photo and pick out the best of the set. It will help eliminate the motion blur and bloom, things you can't edit out in post. Don't be afraid to ask the subject to move into better lighting conditions so you don't have the flood lights in the background.

Also don't use the zoom if you can get closer since you don't seem to be the steadiest of camera person especially when compounded by the long exposure time.

Your camera is adequate as evidence by the photos taken outside. But investing in a new proper camera might be a good idea for the next event. If nothing else, the new features would make your job easier. Things like image stabilisation, optical zoom, better on-board sensors and better algorithms. It doesn't need to be a high end camera or anything. Most consumer level cameras will be more than adequate, just don't buy a Sony Cybershot, those things are more computer than camera.

Really enjoy the show but I think when recording you guys really need to increase the volume. I have the volume on my iPod maxed and you guys are still difficult to hear clearly. I listen to my iPod in my car and I have to have both my iPod volume maxed and my car volume near max in order to heard anything at all. James having a low voice volume makes it worse. This was a big problem with the Newscast as well until Scott took over editing. Don't have an issue with RFN or music in general.

Have to agree with this. Dynamic range compression really helps here.
On a side note, have you considered adding a "PALCast" for Europe/AU? Greg's on RFN but I'd love to hear more.

I agree! We tried a variety of things to get things louder without compromising the sound quality, it's the best we could do. Maybe next time we'll try yoshi1001's idea!

@famicomplicated, about that. In all my excitement, I neglected to purchase a Famicom game. I did get 3 SuperFamicom games though. My excuse shall be that it's for "decoration"...... Until I return to get actual Famicom games...... (hee haw! hee haw!)
