Title: Minecraft
Post by: ThePerm on April 21, 2011, 03:30:01 AM
Minecraft is awesome. This game is crack. If you like Animal Crossing, Cubivore, Zelda, any game with a level editor than you'll probably like this. Who else has it? We must build a world together!

I picked up Minecraft during Alpha and I played the crap out of it for awhile but the sparse updates recently and my non-interest in things like achievements has stopped me from playing for awhile.  Recently I've been trying Ace of Spades, which is free now and is what I've wanted from Minecraft since day 1: a CTF multiplayer game with Minecraft style building and digging.

I don't have much interest in building online but I wouldn't mind playing Minecraft sometime, especially if you are using some of those awesome game altering mods I've heard about.  Do you use inventory editors? Spelunking and avoiding monsters with another person is what I'd be most interested in doing in multiplayer but the servers I've been to tend to have free materials and only building.  If you have a regular server send me the name.

honestly i started last friday or so....but ive built what looks like helms deep. As crazy as ive been playing it nonstop lately there is still a lot i haven't even done yet.
And this ace of spades sounds interesting.

The Minecraft concept is really cool.  If you are just starting download a program that will back up your Minecraft save.  Trust me when I tell you that Minecraft will crash sometime and most likely delete your save which will delete your entire world.  There are a few different programs to back up saves out there but it is essential.
Tell me which backup program you download and I'll use it to send you the save of my world if you want to check it out.  I've built all kinds of cool stuff and I like checking out other people's worlds.

Find a good server before you play multiplayer.  Half of them are full of people that are OCD and will kick you from the server if you even build something too close to another person's buildings.

Ace of Spades. (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/13/10-reasons-you-need-to-play-ace-of-spades/)  The link tells you about it and has the link to the site that can download it.

I hear a lot about Minecraft but I just can't get into the whole build a world games.  Just not a sandbox guy.

I've been running a small server for my friends and I since the early Alpha versions. We've all kind of grew disinterested in the game over the last month or so, but I think it's just because we burnt ourselves out with our marathon building nights. We'll go back to it once we cleanse our pallets a bit.

Make sure you get a good texture pack! I 'm not too fond of the full on hi-def ones, but just about anything is better than the defaults. I use a modified version of the "JohnSmith" texture pack.

Since my main style of playing is to grab a sword (I've gotten pretty proficient at killing creepers in close combat) and go explore caves I would appreciate more variety down there. Most recent improvements were to the above-ground and decoration mechanisms. I've never used mine carts as I'm mostly digging near the bottom of the map to find diamond, moving mine carts vertically is fairly difficult/expensive for slim benefits so I can't be bothered. There really needs to be some sort of elevator for those things. I've visited a 16th century silver mine and they already had an elevator for the ore. Mining shafts are vertical with ladders for people and elevators for ore in real life, in Minecraft you have to stick that ore in your pocket to get it up through the shaft.

Thankfully the last update added powered mine cart tracks. ;)
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: KDR_11k on April 25, 2011, 02:57:43 AM
Yeah but they can't go vertical like a lift would, plus it's quite expensive to lay the 64 tracks necessary to go from ground level to the bedrock.

Mining shafts are vertical with ladders for people and elevators for ore in real life, in Minecraft you have to stick that ore in your pocket to get it up through the shaft.

The most effective way to mine is to go straight down in a 1x3 trench to about level 13-15 (so you're in diamond territory, but too high to hit lava). You then fill in the middle column with dirt or something else cheap, dig 3 more blocks down below one of the empty columns and fill those in with buckets of water, and place ladders up the other empty column. That way, to get to mining level you just jump down the shaft and let the water break your fall, branch out from the initial site in some pattern to mine, and then climb up the ladder to get out.

Post by: KDR_11k on April 25, 2011, 04:38:20 AM
Yeah, makes mine carts kinda useless though.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: NWR_insanolord on April 25, 2011, 05:29:28 AM
Mine carts were never really meant to be used for mining in this game.

They're a major part in Clonk which I see as a competitor to Minecraft.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Morari on April 25, 2011, 11:27:13 AM
I've never really used the mine carts for actual mining myself. I have a pretty massive transit system set up above ground though, going from town to town. For mining, I have shafts with cushy pools of water at the bottom at ladders going up the sides. I actually waste a lot of time decorating my mines though, putting in reinforcements and such... I like my Minecraft world to look semi-plausible.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: SixthAngel on April 25, 2011, 09:28:43 PM
Boosters would be so unnecessary if he actually made powered mine carts worthwhile.

I mine for the adventure, decorating the mine would be time spent not adventuring. Needs more monsters.

Post by: SixthAngel on April 27, 2011, 02:33:10 AM
This thread got me excited for Minecraft again but I checked his blog and all my excitement immediately drained.  The guy that has done nearly all the work recently has been moved to another project.  This leaves the creator as the only person in his company actually working on Minecraft and he has barely done any work on the game for a while.  It's so disappointing that this game makes him so much money that he sets up a company to make the game faster and then puts absolutely every person on another game while Minecraft development flounders.  A miracle could happen and he could start working like he did at the beginning and release regular updates but I sincerely doubt it.  At this rate all the features that he promised (lanterns) and talked about won't be close to being in by the "release date".  He even just talked about his plan to charge modders for the right to mod Minecraft then quickly retracted it when absolutely everyone hated it.  I guess I'll check back with the game in a month or two to see if there are any new updates I want to try.

I was getting quite heavily into this just recently. I really enjoyed messing around with redstone and making (primitive) powered doors to my base. Then I got modded Morrowind running on my Mac...now Minecraft's on hiatus. Still, I look forward to getting back into it soon, the latest updates should freshen it up.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: ThePerm on April 28, 2011, 03:20:46 AM
yeah, for what minecraft is...you'd think it would run on less system resources than it does. As popular as it is, you get the downside of it being an indy game too. I've ran the Unity engine on my computer and it does some really efficient memory loading/de-loading. Runs smoothly and amazingly without taxing my resources. Minecraft uses like 500mb of ram always, and thinking about it...it really shouldn't be that much ram.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: KDR_11k on April 29, 2011, 12:31:32 PM
Perm, think about the amount of power necessary to handle the gigantic dynamic terrain. Just because the graphics don't look like HD games that doesn't mean they don't need a lot of computing power. There are 128 blocks per square meter in that game world (vertical limits of the game world). You can easily see hundreds of meters into the distance which puts it at millions of blocks within the visible scene.

Also 500MB of RAM is chump change these days.

At this rate all the features that he promised (lanterns)

IIRC those were talked about as an addition to torches once they have a limited lifetime but that idea was nixed so lanterns seem unlikely.

Thats kinda how i figured it, not to mention i played a few other voxel based games that ran much more efficiently. They were all written in another language other than Java. They also handled millions of points like they were nothing. I'm sure there could be some coding tweaks to minecraft that could make it run much more efficiently.

I've had Minecraft crash numerous times (it is a sloppily coded Java product, after all) and I have never had it corrupt or loose a save file. Maybe I've just been lucky.

I am so in love with this game. Digging around and exploring caverns is fun. I recently struck out and started working in a far off location from my normal caves because I found a super huge pit. We'll see where that goes.

Anyone tried multiplayer? I've not but I'd love to play with some of you guys.

The reason I play Terraria is because there's way more to the combat part of that game than MC's combat. The monsters in MC are pretty harmless, once you spot them you can beat them up easily, their only threat comes from surprise attacks. The enemies at night are barely a threat, even the most basic shelter keeps them out effectively.

Looks good. I've had my server down for about a month now due to an electrical surge. I'm kind of holding off on the repair though, as I'd rather just upgrade the entire rig instead. Hopefully the upcoming "Adventure Update" will spur me to do just that.

I've installed the "leaked" 1.8 pre-release and will be digging into it later tonight. I was still on my original map, back from the Alpha version, so I'm starting fresh for all the new stuff in this version.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Morari on September 11, 2011, 10:30:05 AM
I'm going to have to start anew myself. My current map is so behind the updates that I don't have proper biomes or grass in most areas. I'd probably have to travel miles and miles before finding any new terrain types. I might just wait for the "final version" this December before starting my server back up.

i got a lot of the assets and mcedited them together, they dont look as impressive when they are miles apart. I run a test server every once in a while. I build things on both my server and Barbiz's server.

Im thinking about making an adventurecraft mod, so we'll see how that works.

What server are you on now, Perm?
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: ThePerm on November 25, 2011, 07:06:07 AM
5.242.193.99

you have to download hamachi and log on to get it to work
the answer to the next question is minecraft

hamachi is a tunneling program, it basically makes a virtual lan network, it gets around router issues.

Yeah, the increased height limit was pretty nice. They just need to make it so the clouds don't pass through things now. I had a small village built upon a series of floating islands on my server. I immediately went into MCedit and raised it above the clouds. It looks much more interesting now.

Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: NWR_DrewMG on July 22, 2012, 11:25:22 PM
I was looking into renting a server.  If you get one ready and equipped with mods from JestServers it's about $260 quarterly.  If we had enough people willing to kick in, we could do that.  Otherwise, if we only had like 5 or so people interested we could find a cheaper option.  My brother used Minecraft Box for awhile and it worked pretty well.

It looks like for Minecraft Box, we could rent a server with 256 MB of RAM which works for 3-5 players for $7/month.  Any interest in something like that?
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Stratos on July 22, 2012, 11:55:05 PM
While tempting I don't have spare cash to chip in on a server. I'll see these next two days if I can get a legit server running.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: NWR_DrewMG on July 22, 2012, 11:59:41 PM
Well, good luck.  Usually have you to pay your ISP extra to get a static IP, and that's something you'd definitely need to host any kind of dedicated server.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Oblivion on July 23, 2012, 12:01:41 AM
Wait, you have to pay just to play with friends? What kind of bullshit is that?
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: NWR_DrewMG on July 23, 2012, 12:03:44 AM
Minecraft doesn't have any sort of built-in hosting capabilities, so anyone wanting to play multiplayer has to provide their own server.  There's no cost for the software, but setting up a server for anything, Minecraft, email, etc, has some associated costs.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Oblivion on July 23, 2012, 12:38:10 AM
Then I guess I won't be playing you with you, Stratos.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Stratos on July 23, 2012, 12:38:44 AM
I was under the impression that one could just configure your network with the static ip yourself?

All the stuff I've read says nothing about arranging anything with your ISP. I just have to open a port on my router and configure my network so that the computer acting as host gets a static ip from the router.

I was hoping to use Hamachi as that is easier but they cost money too it turns out.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: NWR_DrewMG on July 23, 2012, 12:44:24 AM
Maybe I'm mistaken, but the IP address your computer has is not the IP address you would give out to someone to play with you over the net.  You probably have something like 192.168.1.2 on your computer, but millions of other computers on the internet have that same address.  All of the computers connected to your router will be translated to a single unique IP 0address that you get from your ISP, and that address will change every time your router loses connection and re-establishes connection.

Really though, if you're planning on getting together with someone and playing at the same time as them, you can just give them your public IP address every single time you want them to hop on the server.  If it changes, though, they won't be able to play without knowing what it's changed to.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: NWR_DrewMG on July 23, 2012, 12:47:47 AM
Oblivion, if Stratos can get his server stuff figured out, then it'd be no effort on your end.  When I said that "everyone" who wants to play Minecraft multiplayer needs to get a server, what I really mean is that anyone who wants to HOST Minecraft multiplayer needs to get a server.  If you just want to play with someone else, you need to get their server information, but SOMEONE involved still needs to have a server.  In the case of games like Mario Kart or Halo, the big corporations host servers for us to use, but most PC games have traditionally not operated on that model.

That's why I was inclined to just rent a server.  At $7-$14 per month, if we had 4-5 people interested it'd be a pretty nominal cost.  Then we don't have to worry about finding and setting up a server.

Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: NWR_DrewMG on July 23, 2012, 12:50:52 AM
Also, with the next update (1.3) everything is changing with regards to multiplayer, so this might all get a lot easier.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Oblivion on July 23, 2012, 12:54:20 AM
Do you know what exactly they are changing with the multiplayer?
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Stratos on July 23, 2012, 12:56:09 AM
I didn't think about the IP changing from losing my connection. May put a damper on things. 'Course, with only a few of us on here playing, I could just post my IP each time it changes. Since we'd mostly be playing together I'd just check it and update y'all with the new IP.

I'm looking to get a cheaper price on internet here in the next month by switching providers or threatening Comcast into a cheaper price point so I'll look into ways of getting a static IP in the deal.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: NWR_DrewMG on July 23, 2012, 12:56:27 AM
All that I've read says that they're "merging" the single player and multiplayer which I suppose means that you'll create your own worlds and be able to invite people into them.  Hopefully by username.  That would make all of this a lot easier.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Kwolf on July 23, 2012, 02:05:09 AM
I think you can rent a server a bit cheaper than 7-14 dollars a month. I think https://www.lethaldrive.com/ does it for about 5 dollars a month for a 4-5 person server.   I haven't used them or anything.  I hear good things about them from the minecraft community.

I got to admit I thought once or twice myself about renting one but really didn't have anyone to play with except maybe one friend who hardly ever plays.

The new multiplayer changes are coming in the beginning of august to merge single player and multiplayer.  Sadly I'm pretty sure it's still using IP address and manual input to join.  I don't think they are anywhere near using login names and friends list yet.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Kwolf on July 23, 2012, 09:52:13 AM
Well .. I kinda thought I would be a good citizen and try to contribute to the community.. I paid and rented a server for 6 months.  A five person or so server.

Having a bit of problems with it right now, it's not exactly starting.    I gave it some time and put in a ticket with their support.   If I can get things cleared up and such.  Hopefully I might be able to contribute a small server for everyone to play on.    Although I will admit if I am over stepping my boundries and such with you guys, I apologize. :)
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Kwolf on July 23, 2012, 10:28:51 AM
Whoa they responded to my ticket and fixed the problem fast.    Okay well.. Umm..  I'm not very great at this kinda stuff.   But anyway.   I rented a server and got running.    I paid for 6 months though..   So should be running for at least that long.

The ip/port is   50.31.24.15:25594

It is survival mode.

It should be able to handle up to 5 people or so at a time.    :)

On a serious note though.   If everyone wants to play and use it.   Does everyone want a white list?
Basically a white list lets only certain people connect to the server.  Would help prevent griefing.   Right now anyone could log in and do whatever.   Will let you guys decide that.  :)

(edit.   Totally forgot how awesome and hard survival was..   Dug a small cave near spawn.   Was able to mine a few tree's and junk in the daylight.    Enough to make a door and basic crafting table/chest.  Anything in the room/chest is for anyone.  Thought I would make a small safe house type bunker for when you just start.   Mainly cause I was scared when I logged on to test server and it was about to become night.  :)  )

On most servers I've been on they will periodically drop people. I know if you are having issues with the game world just log out and log back in. Helps the server catch up or something.

I'd talk to tech support again KWolf, server doesn't seem to be very stable at the moment. I'm sure we'll get the bugs worked out soon though.

Jus to let everyone know what the group has done today, here goes:

We have a house built for Kwolf and I. Drew has his own house nearby. Stratos got lost in the beginning so we built a path right outside Drew's house that leads to Stratos' mountain house. Just follow the tunnel and once out of the tunnel, follow the torches.

Drew built a pathway in his house to our first big cave, one that we've explored pretty in depth. There's still a few places in the cave that need be explored so have at it.

We all shares the spoils, but put it in whatever house you want and use whenever you need it.

And since I love what we've done with the server so far, I downloaded it into my single player mode for my own use.

inside my house, i have a descending stairwell that leads down to the very bottom, and i've found a few deposits of diamond there so far.  anyone is willing to go down there and keep mining in my little pocket.

also, i added an incinerator in my storage room if you have extra crap in your inventory that's bugging you and you want to unload it.

I built myself a nice comfy little home this morning.   It's on the end of a river with a nice dock out front.   I make a small trail that leads back to the mine and one of the entrances to Drew's house.   Anyone is welcome of course.

Also made a tiny bridge across the river along with the trail.
Made sure to make the bridge high enough that boats could still pass beneath though.

I was in the process of building an obsidian farm until I realized that in recent versions of the game, they removed the ability to create unlimited lava sources.  That pretty much kills what I was working on.

Got on and played some more this evening.  Started building a Stone Brick tower above my house and digging out a mineshaft below my house.. I went down far enough to hit bedrock.

The stone brick tower though not complete offers a nice sight.  From the top you can see as far as spawn.  It's just taking me awhile to build it.   Having to smelt the cobble stone takes time.   It's been a blast though.  Going to retro fit the tower as I build some, put in some viewing decks.

Also I forgot how crazy it was to mine right next to endermen.  I had one keep creeping up on me trying to get into my view site.  I felt like watching indiana jones as a kid.  The final scene during raiders of the lost ark where I would close my eyes.  Thinking if I looked at the tv the bad stuff would happen to me too..  Kept having to look down at the ground and just back away.   Just kept telling myself don't look at it..   :)

uh, guys?  what happened in my storage/incinerator room?  it's now a volcano, and all of my chests have been burned up.  I had diamond in there, as well as a ton of building materials?  it took a lot of work to get all that stuff, and now it's gone!

Eh that's not good news to wake up to.  I'm sorry to hear that.   Can't say I have been in your house before.   Did it look like damaged from an explosion any?  If you feel that someone may have griefed you or such even on accident.  I'm sure we are all okay with an honor system.    I don't think any of us would mind if you spawned the items to replace them since you did the work to get them in the first place if you want.    Since your a server admin.

Still feel bad about this though..   Sorry to hear that.  I haven't found any diamonds yet, but I will gladly pledge my first few to you Drew.

That's not too good with the lava.

Someone should be given OP powers so that we can regain any lost irreplaceable material. Losing diamond just slows the game down.

By the way, who keeps leaving my doors open? I'd prefer my doors stay closed so monsters don't come in. There have been times I've run in bleeding only to be killed by a monster in the past.

~Update~
Hey! Who is stealing my stuff? My stuff in my mountain is not community stuff. Someone stole almost everything I had in a chest and my bed. WTF? Where is my bed? And my entire chicken coop is emptied.

Stop stealing stuff. I know someone took my things once before but it was just a few brick so I didn't say anything. I am now asking that no one enter my mountain without asking first.

We may have a griefer on our hands which sucks because there are only five of us...

Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Kwolf on July 26, 2012, 10:14:47 AM
Well right now lets kinda hope that everything that has happened was a misunderstanding or fluke.  Hoping everything will just settle.   Although if not, already kinda looking into some server pluggins and mods through bukkit to help with the problems.

I just fear these kinda hampering people though too.  As we all may end up having to do lots of unnecessary commands and such to land rights, chests, etc.   If it comes to it though will just do it though.

The one thing I kinda fear about putting a lot of pluggins on the server is, we may have to wait some long extended times after updates before we can update the server.  As we will need to wait for each mod to become compatible with the newest update.    I think at least.

As it is not totally sure how updating the server will work next week.  I think August 1st is when the next major minecraft patch comes out.   Guess will find out then.

I gave this a go a couple weeks back when a friend let me borrow an account to mess around with. It's amusing enough, but there is one thing that really kills it. The underlying program is a wreak. You tell it to only use so much memory, but it doesn't obey it and proceeds to use swap instead which is never a good idea. You allow it more, but it then goes and uses swap anyway even though there is free and inactive memory it can use. It's memory use is completely uncontrolled. Even quitting is a hassle since it's so badly written it doesn't quit cleanly most of the time and there is a significant chance that it fails to release the controls on quit effectively locking up the system.

The computer can handle the graphics just fine maxed out, it's everything else about it that's broken. Even though this game works, I would have given it a score of zero considering how bad it is on a technical level. It's a shame because I can see why people like it.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Morari on July 27, 2012, 02:18:31 PM
The underlying code is absolutely and undeniably terrible. Thankfully, most end-users will never notice it. At least not now. Program crashes and outright memory dumps used to be common place. Bad enough to the point where if you didn't save every 5-10 minutes, you were screwed. A lot of the show stopping bugs have been weeded out. Also, using the 64bit version of Java helps tremendously.
Title: Re: Minecraft

Anyone want a PvP arena? I was thinking of making one.

EDIT: Instead of making a PvP arena I upgraded our wheat and sugar cane farm. I added protection around the wheat. I'll find a place for a PvP arena soon. If people need food or wheat, I have a special chest for bread and wheat in the original house that was built.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: oohhboy on July 27, 2012, 10:36:08 PM
I am using 64bt java. It's the uncontrolled memory use that is the primary issue. I get the feeling that there is a massive memory leak or a complete failure in memory management of any kind. I can be standing still and memory usage would still be going up. The moment it starts using swap, it's a count down to doom. I like his stances on issues, but he did not deserve the money he got for his programing skills. I would be ashamed with the quality of work. And I am talking about the current build.

I got a nether portal working, near drew's house.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Kwolf on July 28, 2012, 07:45:42 AM
Wow logged on for a little bit this morning.   That's some crazy sugar cane farming near spawn. I thought I was in a jungle for a moment. :P

Also went through the portal to the nether but pretty much came right back out.   I worked on the water ways a little.  I connected the river near spawn and the river that goes near my house.  I built an tunnel aquaduct for them to connect.   Not sure why but I enjoy peddling about in a little boat.

I noticed someone kinda helped "illuminate" that dark room in the back of my house.  I put a sign up and labeled it as a Mushroom farm.  It's not really supposed to have much light in there.  To help the mushrooms reproduce.   That's why I have an Iron door with a one way lever on it.   So monsters that spawn in there can't get out.  :)

I gotta say you guys have to check out Oblivions pvp arena, that thing looks seriously dangerous. :)

I built a small temple near my house.   I was going to fill it with book shelves, but then I remembered how you can do enchanting tables.   Luckily I had just enough diamonds from digging to make a diamond pick and half 3 left over.  I needed two to make the table.

Anyway, there is now an enchanting table in there.  I used up all 8 of my levels on it.  It's pretty cool.

Also near my house on the desert line..  There is some more obsidian.  There was a pool of lava there.. I watered it to make the obsidian.  I really have no use for it though, I just needed four to make the table.

I will warn whoever wants it though.  Be careful of lava beneath the obsidian. I almost fell in.   So just mine it carefully. :)

P.S big thanks to Oblivion for all the bread..  That will keep me fed for sometime thanks again :)

Suppose I should post here, although I really don't want to bump the thread.   I know not many have been playing on the Survival server much.  (though it was fun while it lasted, I didn't expect it to last forever)

Thing is the host I rented it from  Lethaldrive.  Has decided to close/merge with another company with zero notice to it's customers.  For the time being the server is shut down as they go through this.  They didn't give me any notice.  I apologize to anyone who invested time on the server and feels lost on it.    I certainly didn't mean for this to happen.

Again I apologize to anyone who feels affected by it.

Well as of right now I don't know.  I'm kinda angry about them just suddenly passing along all my billing information with no warning.   Right now I cannot even access the things they emailed me saying I could.

If nothing else I am trying to get access to the old server via ftp.  I would like to get a copy of the world dat.  So I could at least upload it somewhere for anyone here to download if they wanted to continue it on.    Right now though I am being denied access.   Once again I apologize to everyone.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Kwolf on October 15, 2012, 06:35:41 AM
Whew..    3 days of support tickets and emails later.  I was finally able to at least get copy of the server files.
I would recommend people stay away from lethaldrive servers, except they just went under so no reason to stay away from them anymore..   Heh..

Anywho. I spent all morning getting this done.  I zipped together the world dat files from the server and uploaded them so anyone can download them.   I had to make a free account with Mediafire to do so, so there is no guarantee how long the download link will last.  So might want to get it as soon as you can.

I was able to use the files to get a local copy version of the server. (At least the normal world) Up and running within a few minutes.  They seem a bit disorganized with how a vanilla server stores it's files.  But moving them around a bit I was able to get them to work and the world looked like it was all there.

Really didn't have too much more time work on it, I gotta eat something and get to work. I just feel a bit better this morning knowing that at least the server files were recovered, so technically if someone feels up to it, it can live on.  I suppose if nothing else everyone can download a copy and have a copy of the work everyone put in too.

Again I apologize for any problems this has caused everyone.  It certainly was not my intentions.

Here is the download link for the server backup files. http://www.mediafire.com/?r27y797qpvb74md

Again sorry for all the trouble.

North (I think) over that bridge next to Shyguy's church. Follow the road and take a right when it splits. I liked the lava coming out of it. I'm going to try and give it a "Lonely Mountain" feel.

Do you know where I can find some red sand/sandstone? I think it would look great with some of my rail lines and as an accent to some of my buildings.

I have a plan mapped out to build rail lines to Lucina and to the other village by crossing the mountains. I'l going to mark out some areas for stations there over the weekend.

I also got a nice melon farm going. Gets me about 50 melons an hour I think. I'm going to build it out to get a very solid stream of income rolling in.

Found the mesa at 5202/71/-9192... pretty far out.

...and then I fall into lava while building my rail line to Lucina. I lost most of my sandstone, red sandstone, a stack of redstone BRICKS, and a lot of coal, gold, and iron. Not to mention ALL of my regular and power tracks. I HAD to stop and mine a redstone deposit... All of my things burned.

The rail line is close to halfway to Lucina, but now I have to break to mine more iron and gold.

Next time I head to the mesa I'm going to setup a second home so we can have an easy warp.

Thanks for the support guys. I appreciate it.

I need to decide how the line to Lucina will run. I got to the end of the sugar farm and wonder if I should go around. I'm going to land the station next to the storage tower. I've torched off a zone for it.

I got a nice chunk of the line to Shy City done as well. Looks like it will turn out to be a fun and scenic ride. Parts of them are live if you want to try. I built a contraption to collect the mine carts at my station. The chest there has extras if anyone wants to try them out. Careful because the stopper seems to hurt people slightly.

I like the new riding mechanics. Makes things a whole lot easier. Just hop in and push the direction you want to go. No need for buttons or slanted start spots. Plus the redstone blocks are much cooler than the old torches.

Also, I made it back out to the mesa. I setup a base there and it is one of my sethome locations. I brought back a bunch of clay and dropped it off at the Shy Community Center. Next time someone is one with me they can TP to my location over there for easy gathering if we need a lot more of the mesa mats.

Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: ThePerm on August 27, 2015, 09:02:01 AM
lol Pixel Art isn't hard to do in survival. You just have to make a scaffolding of sand. The sand trick. Make a row of solid blocks like cobble or dirt or something. Beneath it put torches. When sand drops onto a torch it turns into a collectible block. You know how complicated all my taj majal and mosque type stuff was? I'd have intricate patterns. If you want to undertand something complex. Go to my giant tower in the center of perm on that file I uploaded.

by comparison pixel art is easy.

And i made that item tower way too tall. Not used to the super high ceiling limit.

I burned in lava again. I think I have a problem. This time I only lost more easily replaceable stuff, but it is sad all the same. I was nearly full and about to warp home, had lots of redstone and iron and even a few solid veins of gold/diamonds/obsidian. I just had to mine one more chunk of Iron and accidentally mined down. I wasn't fast enough to warp home because I tried to get onto a ledge right next to me.

I'm about 12 hours away from getting the next server rank. Though I need to get to the nether to complete all of the achievements for the rank-up. I'm going to start delving into Nether and spells more. I'm building lower levels to house that stuff. I'll make my Nether gate look like a Stargate.

You have to fulfill the other criteria. Did you catch my convo on the server?

Type /rank then select any of the ranks displayed and it prints your time on the server, the criteria for ranking up, and which of them have been completed. I think you have to level up to about 15 to quality for rankup.

Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: ThePerm on September 05, 2015, 06:21:53 PM
lucario, unclaim that land in Shycity. I told you where you could build. You keep taking supplies. If you noticed I havent got anything built in a while its because everytime i go on a supply collection run and get all these supplies you turn around and build something with the things I collected.  It takes a while to build those 8x8 holes, and chop those trees, and farm the land. You're stifling my creativity. So please get rid of that plot of land. I was building something and you just had to think "oh yeah I'll build a kfc here without asking".Maybe there is a reason why we moved away from Lucina?

move up the hill away from the brown houses. Theres room there for plenty of things. Im building things on community center side of the road. You can build on the other side of the road preferably up the hil so you don't get in the way of shyguys stuff.

Use you're own supplies though. Shy and I are pooling resources. I Trust Shy because I actually trust him. You can still build anywhere in Lucina, thats our whole group thing. Shycity is a me and shy project.

Why are they purging?
Title: Re: Minecraft

The theory I learned from a popular movie is if they purge one night a year, crime will be non-existent the rest of the year.

So I have been piecing together what's happening. Apparently, BaBojus has personal things needing his attention and can't afford the server. I guess they are looking at cheaper server? That is not clear. Lucario, do you know more details?

I don't know, this is why you should have found a server that didn't involve drugs PERM!

I have saved the server. At least for the next couple of months.

Did they give you a dump of the data? We could try to start our own. Once I graduate college or get my next REAL promotion (expected to be some time in the next year) I would be willing to put in the time and money to get one rolling.

I donated. Babojus seems to be interested in someone taking over the server, if anyone is inclined.

It's only if you step on a specific snow block called powdered snow which causes you to fall into it and take damage. I'm not the biggest fan of it myself but you can use the blocks to convert a Skeleton farm into a Stray farm and get a bunch of Arrows of Slowness
