Sounds like Spore in name only.  Not that I'm surprised by this.

Does operation wolf use the wii remote to emulate a light gun?  Do I want to know the answer to this question?

I have to disagree here.  Fighting games get more fun after everyone has had a few beers.  Of course playing the computer is a different story.  There's no way to get the computer drunk that I'm aware of... :C

So sad.  Not surprising, but still sad.  Soul Calibur 2 is one of the few games my wife will play me at (and by "play" I mean "ritualistically whoop my ass")

Well that's... actually pretty cool.  The other home console versions always have better options than the neogeo versions did.

EDIT: Unless they neglect to include gamecube controller support.  In which case there is no fist large enough to shake angrily at the sky in vain.

I agree with the recommended for fans ranking, but if fighting games aren't your think maybe someone else should write up the review?  I like the game a lot, and like 2D fighters in general.  But waiting for the superior sequels to the game is reason enough for a "fans" recommendation.

I'm not going to argue fighting games merit any more than I'll argue why genre [X] is a waste of time.  Fighting someone at your skill level is stupid fun.

Yeah!  Finally!  Now I just have to wait for them to release kof96.  94 was ok, but being able to pick custom teams really makes the series.  Plus some of the moves in 94 were a little insane to pull off.  Never really played 95.

Wow.  A GOOD Star Trek game?  I'm intrigued.  But this really sounds like something I'd want to play on the DS rather than in front of the TV.

I would have been more interested to know what characters were in this and whose moves have been invariably changed to some absurd button combination.  The reason I gave up on the Mortal Kombat series is one game I'd have my favorite character, and the next game he'd be dropped.  Or they'd change another favorite's moves to something completely different and usually nonsensical.  Or they'd add weapons or some nonsense.

The reason the Street Fighter and King of Fighters series have been so successful is that they either refine or don't mess with the core gameplay. When Capcom changes a move it's for the better (ie Sagat's Tiger Knee and Chun-Li's Fireball).  Same with SNK (King's double fireball used to be pretty awful to pull off).  Also the moves aren't along the lines of FORWARD DOWN BACK DOWN BLOCK UP BLOCK RUN = fireball

So what's the deal?  Did they by any chance return to the MK1/MK2 days of semi-intuitive moves and familiar characters?  I lost track after 3.

There are problems on some guitars, my buddy bought 2 copies (one for a client) and the one he opened first was unplayable.  The strum bar didn't register at all.  The other one was fine.  He returned it and the replacement was fine.

Good game, but 10?  I'm sorry, if there's anything at all wrong with the game, it shouldn't be a ten.  And there are some things wrong with the game.

Yeah I'm not going to be writing down any more codes thank you.  It's bad enough for multiplayer games.  And someone please remind Nintendo that there are parental controls built into the console, so they can stop protecting adults from the naughty words.

sounds good... more games need editors.

I've been waiting over a decade for a decent Super Mario Bros editor.  The DS one should have had one.

I can't be too excited.  I know what they do to console versions of these games.  I won't be surprised if it's a quest based adventure game called SPORE: Mystery in Evolution Town

Why can't they just straight port these things?  I would have bought a real sims 2 port in a second.

Nice, here come the KoFs!  I'm such a whore for the games I'll probably get '94 even though you can't customize the teams.  Maybe mario galaxy and guitar hero 3 can keep me busy until they get to '96 :S

The problem with the last game was the screen is tall instead of wide, resulting in you flying blind off cliffs as punishment for going fast (kind of eliminates the point of sonic).   How is the level design in this one compared to the last one?

Yeah, I wouldn't hold your breath.  I'm guessing it's more like: go to the shopping channel, click buy this game for friend, they get a wii message and download it.

What makes magician lord worth it (if anything) are the hilariously bad dialog and voice acting.  At the end of each stage the evil dude taunts you with AMAZING 16 BIT DIGITAL SOUND and it's so terrible it's awesome.  The level names are also awful and spelled wrong... "Anderground Passage of Terror" is a good one.  It's sort of a mini "all your base" every time you beat a level.

Also the game's plot is pretty funny and makes no sense.  Essentially you're a psychotic librarian.  This dale of evil gods guy checked out these eight books with a fake library card, and loaned them to his friends and so you go whoop ass until you get all the books back to their proper place in the weird eight slot thing (it's not the dewey decimal system, but what can you do?).  And some how all this returns water to the earth.  Even though there is plenty of water on level 4.

The game is obscenely hard for all the reasons mentioned by Jonathan.  And if you really want to hear that Dale dude yell at you for being a "nice guy", you learn the cheap boss strategies and keep hitting continue.  Also as an extra bonus on the last level you get to fight EVERY miniboss, one after the other with no powerups or extra lives between.

I guess it was the thing to do (drunk in college) in 1996, but I had a lot of fun beating that game with my roommate. And also I got so angry at it I probably gave myself permanent heart damage.

I know they were going for simple, but they really should have had 3 action buttons on the remote, or ideally 4 button SNES layout.

I saw this at E3 on the PS2, and was dumbfounded as to why this wasn't a DS game.  Painting with an analog stick?  WTF?  Should work well with the Wii pointing though.

History shows that third parties threw themselves at Nintendo's lunchbox platform.

That's not the point, the Gamecube was easy to program for in the first place, and there are flushed out developer tools available from day 1 for the Wii.  The major publishers all have experience on it, Capcom certainly does.

Somebody needs to a breakdown of developing for a HD console vs Wii. I'm assuming the graphics teams has to spend twice as many hours creating higher res textures and higher polygon character models. I guess you have to spend all that time programming multiple texture shaders over everything too.
