TalkBack / Re: Rock Band Wii DLC to be Distributed on Discs
« on: May 07, 2008, 09:39:34 AM »
I'm glad they are at least they are doing something, which is more than you can say for Activision.  I won't be buying it due to all the reasons mentioned though.

Activision's game was released day and date with other versions, has online play, isn't needlessly overpriced, and the Wii version actually has the best controller.  The lack of DLC is far more understandable given when GH3 was released; it makes no sense for Rock Band, which is coming out after WiiWare and the announcement of Pay to Play.

This isn't DLC, this is from what I can tell a "not-exactly-a-sequel" with new songs and identical game play.  I don't see why GH3 doesn't do this, and while they're at it, release GH1 and 2 for the Wii.  As you say, Guitar Hero 3 is the better choice on Wii.  But if guitar games are your thing, you're better off with an Xbox 360 for the sole fact that you can buy both games and get 2 interchangeable controllers out of the deal.  Why Sony and Nintendo didn't force them to be compatible is a consumer hurting mystery.

The biggest complaint I have with it is they make you pick your character and options AFTER you join a game, and therefore have to impose a time limit on it.  This means best case scenario, you are waiting for people to make their selections, and worst case scenario you run out of time looking at all the different cart options and end up with the cart you didn't want, a character you didn't want and automatic drifting, which you probably didn't want.  Why in the world wouldn't they let you select all this stuff BEFORE joining a game?

Looks really cool, but I have to ask: How did a couple college kids get a Wii dev kit?  And how do I get one?

"The game is essentially a port of the PlayStation 2 version,"

No, it doesn't work with Guitar Hero controllers.  The PS2 version does.  Oh, and it's $10 more than the PS2 version.

No sell for me.  And you guys know how much I eat up accessories like this.

I'm just going to echo this.  One would hope the Wii's success would mean no more half assed ports, but I guess not.  It's bad enough for a game that doesn't come with tons of proprietary plastic controllers.  No DLC I can understand (for a 3rd party), but no online multiplayer?  At all?  Even with friend codes?  Ugh.

I keep hearing how good the Nyko gun is with this.  Anyone confirm/deny?  Also where the heck do you buy it?

Basically this is awesome.  I never got to play the PC versions, but saw/heard enough to convince me.

I couldn't get on the first few times.  When I finally did connect, I found out the game doesn't remember your control preferences unless you specifically pick your name on the character select menu so the match didn't go well.  The next time it was laggy and unplayable.  I've come to admit to myself that I don't really like the game.  The controls are terrible and I just don't get the hype surrounding it.  This coupled with Nintendo's much-hated friend code system and servers that can't handle the traffic has me wanting to sell the game.  I haven't played it since about a week after it came out.

A much better game would have been a 4 player online version of the Mario Vs. Luigi game on The New Super Mario Bros: Tight controls, easy to pick up and ridiculously fun.

So annoyed.  No DLC, no mention or GH 1 or 2 for the Wii, no rock band controller compatibility, and now this.  Everyone has a different band they wouldn't mind a GH tribute game made for, and that's why it's a stupid idea.

CROOOOOOOOOOOZIN!!!! Cruisin' USA YEAAH!!!!

What an awesome/awful game.

I played the mostly superior Atari 800 versions of games growing up, but I wouldn't mind getting C64 versions over here on VC.  Though M.U.L.E. just isn't the same without 4 players.

Wait... why do we need friend codes for disk games if this uses the Wii friend list.  No, seriously.  Whatever non-logic they were using for friend codes just self-destructed.

I have a ext 500 gig hard drive that I got for 116.99 which is now listed at amazon.com for 142.47.  Why the price is higher I don't know.

I got that one for $112 on sale months ago.  Something weird is going on.  It's like they decided 500GB was enough and aren't going to get any bigger.

Does this mean they can make games he had nothing to do with?  Or have they already been doing that?

I've tried every night to go online, and only yesterday was I even able to get to the point where I could get a friend code.  It crapped while waiting and waiting and waiting for people to join a match.

Is this wheel still just a useless piece of plastic?  Because I fail to see how that's "innovative".  Now adding some analog triggers, well then we'd have something worth wasting plastic over.

This sounds like a very good feature.  User driven feedback for games tied directly to the console could seriously stem the tide of crapware on the Wii.

I think the streaming video is a matter of necessity rather than a feature (due to the Wii's famous next-to-no storage space).  While not "having to" download a video is a nice option, you can't get high quality streaming video very reliably with most people's internet connections.  My feeling is these will be highly compressed, shrunk, stuttery or some combination thereof.  I could be wrong, but it's hard to judge whether the quality is higher than youtube when watching them on... youtube :)

No on both counts.  The game had both Zapper and D-pad controls on the NES in the first place, so it kind of makes sense that it's the first Zapper game to come to the Virtual Console.  All you have to do is pretend your Zapper broke.

I can't wait for Arkanoid with the d-pad.

Why 2$ too high? The C64 wasn't that much behind the NES.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 8 bit computer game era, but seriously, the majority of those games are extremely simplistic and don't touch the level of Zelda or Mario on NES.

Pay & Play just sounds like a terrible sales pitch.  Uh, if I bought the game, I already paid?  They need to be more clear what they're offering selling here.

The price is about $2 to high, but this is good news.  There's reason not to release in other territories and the laughable file sizes will help Nintendo's silly idea that we'll never need more internal memory.
