But to a "soccer mom", if Microsoft markets this right... she will see how similar Microsoft and Nintendo are (on the box or the commercial she sees on tv) and will not dwell so much on the differences (speaking of course about the "casual" games, that are more prevalent with Nintendo.)

You mean like ignoring the fact that there is a price gap between the two and that one comes with a game while the other does not (let's not even touch motion controls)? Somehow I believe those will be the more important thing to a "soccer mom" then if there is an avatar system in place or not.

Yes and No... it depends on if the child is begging for a 360 or a Wii... if the kid is wanting a Wii I'm pretty sure the mom, will without question pick up that box and buy it. If the kid is wanting a 360, with this new set of friendly and family oriented "options", the mom might be more accepting of the 360.

In my opinion this is a brilliant move by Microsoft. It may look very... retarded to the hardcore gamers and fanboys from all of the consoles cliches (if you will.) I don't think any Microsoft Fanboys will be jumping up and down over this announcement. But to a "soccer mom", if Microsoft markets this right... she will see how similar Microsoft and Nintendo are (on the box or the commercial she sees on tv) and will not dwell so much on the differences (speaking of course about the "casual" games, that are more prevalent with Nintendo.)

So what about those more mature gamers that are looking to buy an xbox. They aren't going to be pushed away by a "mii-esc" avatar, that is purely OPTIONAL! This was made clear by microsoft in their press conference. They are NOT going to take the place of any gamer tag pics. And the games that DO support them, will NOT REQUIRE them.

You can ALMOST say the same thing about wii sports. "well you didn't HAVE to make a mii to play the game", there were of course randomly made mii's. But everyone felt the appeal to make their own mii, because of the ability to then see it playing a game and running around the screen. These avatars that Microsoft are going to be making, are not going to be anything significant to the hardcore/mature player. Those casual gamers will see these avatars as something fun to create and interact with, and will enjoy it. The rest of us, will choose to ignore it, because there is no appeal to us. As I think it should be. "Don't be getting your 'casual' into my hardcore/mature game!"

My uncle is actually a techno artist and from what I'm told was pretty critical in pioneering the genre. He has a MASSIVE following overseas particularly in Europe and Japan. His name is Joey Beltram and you can find some of his music on his myspace page.

Not really a fan of techno so I can't really comment, most of it just sounds like noise to me...
Very cool... I don't really like his style of techno. But it's awesome to hear about people in the industry.

it sucks showing techno music to non techno fans, cuz they usually don't get it. The problem is everybody wants vocals, and I don't do vocals very well. I tried being a rapper, that was not very good.

One of the reasons why I listen to techno, is because there is usually not a whole lot of vocals. And when there is it usually revolves around the rythem or pitch (instead of lyrics). Personally, I hate rap... it's just my opinion though. There are some (rap) songs out there there that I can listen to, but the majority of rap, is not my kind of music. I have to give it to them though, it's hard to be a decent sounding rap artist.

I wish I knew what songs you listened to cuz by your description I can't tell if you heard the good ones or not. It's cool though.
Well... my favorite electronica artist is Tiesto. I actually don't listen to that much techno. Oh (that reminds me), so a freaking awesome dj (artist) who lives down the road and used to go to the same highschool as I makes some amazing techno. Here is his webpage: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=543972 You should check him out.

you never said what you thought of my music, was it that bad?

I've only listened to a couple songs, what I heard was decent. Slightly cheesy (like I can talk), but good.  Somewhat repetitive sounds. I liked a lot of the ideas, but some of the layers just didn't fit together very well... Definite props though.

So... I didn't make a song this weekend... but we did "Rickroll" cancer!

let me explain... one of our Jazz Bands at school ("The Suitz") does gigs all the time for local parties/events. So Saturday, they played for the "Relay for Life" cancer run/walk, and as they were taking apart the stage they found a copy of rick astley and, naturally, played it.

Here is the horrible quality video (shot by andy kautz, he's going to Berkley school of music, check out his myspace band page:  http://www.myspace.com/aakautz )) Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIkNsinzbO0

Very good dude, liked it better than the first.

Your main little riff in there made me laugh.  It was funny and sorta video game ish.

haha, thanks... hopefully the next song will be a little more techno(ish)... I should have time at the end of next week.

So I put up a new song (titled, "When's It Over?")... as you can see... I don't like it.

Someone did mention (on myspace) that the new one sounds like an old video game song (maybe)

decent mics cost over $150 don't bother with anything less than that, trust me.

Midi keyboards are so outdated. You can plug any electric piano, keyboard, or whatever into your computer using your sound card, goto radio shack and they will tell you what cables you need.

Well... we have a lot of Shure 58's sitting around school, I'm sure my band teacher wouldn't mind me borrowing one or two during a couple weekends.

Midi keyboards are needed for live performances... and different sounds/rhythms. I'm not talking about just recording piano into my compy I'm talking about using the keyboard to improvise and such...

GarageBand isn't expensive, it comes with every Mac and has for the past few years and if you don't have it or want the newest version it's $50 and comes with 4 other useful apps.

I still have to decide on weather I am going to build my own pc this summer or save up and buy a mac (macbook pro would be nice)

You plan on doing any videos for these?

Thanks

Probably no videos... unless I can make it count for a random school project. Or my friends and I get (really) bored. They at least won't happen for awhile.

I'm trying to complete a second song this weekend... much quicker tempo.

If I decide that this is a hobby I want to keep doing, then I might look into some other software, as well as a midi keyboard and a decent mic.

nice, I liked everything from 1:40 on, but the opening was a little too slow for my tastes.
The next one is going to be way more upbeat. Hopefully I'll finish it next weekend (I'm not making any promises, school is a b@#$h right now).

The main actor probably has one of the worst haircuts I have ever seen, the haircut along with the "outtakes" has confirmed in my mind that he is a massive douche.

I didn't mind the movie apart from the main guy and the songs were a little grating, but yeah I agree with Caliban, I can't see it winning any awards.
Yes... the many faces of moose...

No two haircuts are the same...

I think it's pretty well done, actually. Some of the videography is pretty dang professional-looking. The whole intro sequence is really good, actually, though it doesn't keep it up for the whole way.

The credit/outtakes/just-playing-around at the end was pretty funny too. Did he eat the bee? What the crap, dude, I'd worry about it stinging my tongue :P
Especially since all of the filming was done during one day... For southern oregon public education it's pretty damn good.

That's why moose is ridiculous... as seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iW36Dn_gEVE

What is this OSSI Film festival you speak of, and what is the purpose of this festival? I need to understand the context of this video otherwise it's just another home made video.
So... actually, I just looked up what this festival was (I really didn't know what it was before)... but our school is part of the Bill Gates Foundation's OSSI (Oregon Small School Initiative). The whole idea of "small schools" is splitting up groups of teachers into "small schools" within a larger school. So that these teachers can have better communication, amongst each other, about joint projects and such...
There are currently 15 Schools participating (and by participating, I mean taking Bill's money)... every school sent 1-3 entries in to this "Film Festival". So in the end... It's not that big of a deal. Oh well...

Man. pneumopericardium sounds so much more exciting that my pneumothorax episode(s). Of course, with my pneumothorax, it actually re-occured, and I actually had to have an operation because... you know that part where you said that...
Quote
(Usually when your lung “blows out” like this the air travels into the chest or abdomen and dissipates after a few days.)
... well... yeah... not for me. The air wasn't going away and I was basically walking around with one lung's worth of effectiveness total, so they stuck a tube in me that was connected to a box and I had to have that in my side a couple of days. It wasn't invasive surgery though, thank god for laparascopes!

On the plus side, I got to watch a lot of Beckett, Dawson's Creek, and Judge Amy, and play Paper Mario on the 64 for the first time.

yeah, they also said if more air had leaked into the lining of my heart that they would have had to have done surgery and stick it tube in there to let all the air out and such... that would have sucked.
