Interplay Bringing 16-Bit Classics to the Virtual Console
« on: April 25, 2008, 01:08:50 AM »
Interplay to use revenue from Virtual Console sales to bankroll future projects.
 http://nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=15857

Interplay recently announced that they will be bringing some of their classic titles to the Virtual Console. These titles include Earthworm Jim, Earthworm Jim 2, Boogerman and Clayfighter. Rather than the SNES versions of the games, the Genesis versions will be made available.

After the recent sale of the Fallout license to Bethesda, Interplay is pursuing a strategy of low debt and operational costs while they seek funding to bankroll their upcoming projects.

No release date has been revealed for the four announced titles.

Four Interplay Classics Arrive on Wii Virtual Console

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 21 -- Interplay Entertainment Corp. announced today that four of its franchise titles for the classic Sega Genesis videogame system will soon appear on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console.

Earthworm Jim, Earthworm Jim 2, Boogerman, and Clayfighter, all popular Interplay titles on the Sega Genesis in the 1990s, will be available later this year on the Wii Virtual Console.

Nintendo's Virtual Console makes some of the greatest video games in history available for Wii. Users can download and play many favorite NES, SNES, N64, NEOGEO, Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx 16 titles.

Glad these are making their way to the VC, however I wish they were the SNES versions rather than the Genesis ones.

I wish they would have given a reason for choosing Genesis.  Do they think they are the best versions?  Do they somehow get a bigger cut of the genesis games?  Inquiring minds want to know!

Hey man, I wasn't saying they should be the SNES versions.  I'm just wondering WHY they chose Genesis, that's all.  I don't remember any of these games that much, but I did have Clay Fighter on the SNES.

who cares? it's not like the SNES versions are any better aside from what more colors?

Yeah, you can compare the two versions of King of the Monsters 2 then and tell me that the SNES one is only marginally better...

I don't see King of Monsters 2 anywher eon that list so what is your point? I KNOW that SOME games were better on SNES but NOT ALL games were

Good to see that interplay realise that none of their new games are any good.

I called Boogerman a month ago. I posted it in the funhouse but somehow I figured it was coming. I already have it on Genesis though so I might still get Clay Fighter though.

Earthworm Jim on the Genesis has an extra level that the SNES version doesn't have.  Perhaps Interplay used that to decide which console to release EWJ on and then decided to always use the Genesis versions to be consistent.  At the very least it would look weird to have EWJ on one console and EWJ2 on another.

Any of you who buy Clay Fighter are going to be disappointed.  You've been warned.  :)

I rented Clay Fighter once and found it greatly amusing.  A buddy and I spent hours on it just trying to get the announcer to say "I'd be embarrassed to lose that one!" again.  Of course, it wasn't the gameplay that was so amusing, but the presentation.  I don't think that's quite worth it, even on the VC.

Clayfighter on the N64 was a joke of a game... only game that successfully popped up a red error box on screen, with an exception and stack trace.

I wonder if Earthworm Jim has held up as well as I remember it.  I'll have to do a little research, but I'll most likely pick it up.  Was the second game any good?

Slightly upset that they're bringing over the Genesis versions, but I'll get over it.  I just checked GameFAQs, and it seems as if the X button wasn't used, so the controls shouldn't suffer at all.

The only difference I can think of is the voice sample that says "Y" in the quiz show in EWJ2.  I can't think of anything else except maybe the quality of the music and sound.  That reminds me.

Who would win in a dogfight between a Spitfire and a Harrier?
A: The Spitfire.
B: The Harrier.
Y: Flamin' Yawn can Spitfire, but the Queen is Harrier.

It's My Pet Monster

I had the toy and the movie when I was a kid.  It was totally rad.

Anyone remember Boglins?  I had the one with the green glow-in-the-dark eyes in the lower left corner of the picture.  :D
I think his name was Vladd, or something like that.  Holy crap, this is all rushing back to me.  I'm kind of buzzed right now.
