It's still pretty impressive since the X-com series is non-existent in Japan so there isn't an audience for this type of game, plus the Rabbids were never popular in Japan either.

Plus it's doing better then the last Mario and Luigi for 3DS did in Japan, so it's certainly hitting something with the Mario RPG crowd the most recent games haven't.

Maybe it's like Splatoon where it's a genre that's predominantly Western that the Japanese audience just needs a Japanese company like Nintendo to tweak it to their liking.

PS4 is blowing the Switch out of the water. More liek P$4.  #Nintendoomed.

But imagine the money Capcom could be making if Monster Hunter World was released on the Switch.....

I can assume a late port hoping for double dippers is planned for around summertime?

If MHW is not planned for the $witch, and the delay isn't to add those extra features unique to Switch, then I can only assume it's because Capcom has been bankrolled by $ony Corp.

$o much $$$ left on the table here Capcom, pick up the ball and run it into the damn endzone already. An obvious and clear path to success here....

It's got Mario in it, that's all they need.  Plus Nintendo was involved in the development process so I'm sure they had some suggestions that would help make the game more appealing to a wider audience, which included Japan as well.

I believe I shared this once before, but the rumors are Sony gave a money hat to Capcom with the one caveat of "no Switch version". This rumor broke before the game (or the un-localized XX Switch title) was announced. The second part of that rumor stated that Capcom then went into a panic because the Switch proceeded to explode. So there was an alleged Switch game going into development by the Monster Hunter Portable team that would be considered the true Monster Hunter 5.

Now some of that seemed like it had fan bias, but then the announcement of XX on Switch hit followed quickly by the reveal of World AND that there we no plans to localize XX.

And a lot of signs did point to Capcom cooking something up for Switch. Capcom is notorious for releasing the same MonHun game multiple times with expanded content. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a Switch version of World (Monster Hunter World G/Ultimate) that circumvents the Sony deal because it is technically a new game.

Though really, I just want them to localize XX and take their time building up a new Switch version from the ground up.

Even with just a brief time with Monster Hunter World, I have no interest in seeing Monster Hunter XX (Switch) being localized. The changes Capcom made with World were long over due for the series and are what I am looking for after severely dropping off playing Monster Hunter Generations (3DS).

Hopefully Capcom has some special Monster Hunter thing being cooked for Switch. I'm worried that it is far off.

Wow. Splatoon 2 is outselling Mario Odyssey. The Splatoon series is really taking off in Japan. First time, I've gone through the chart in awhile so it may not be a fresh observation but it surprised me just now going through this. I'm also surprised to see XC2 rather low in selling at the moment. Especially since XC2 went a bit more anime in its style this time around. Yet, it doesn't seem to be getting much love in Japan. AC:New Leaf. Man, that game is incredible. It just keeps selling in Japan.

Look at Splatoon 2's sales compared to last week - 18 fewer copies this week (0% change), that's awesome.

Well XC2 is selling slightly better then the previous ones in Japan but that has more to do with the Switch being more popular then the Wii and Wii U were when those games hit.  Of course its Western sales are much higher which is why it's the first Xenoblade to cross the million mark so I imagine Nintendo is overall happy with its performance.

Of course you do have to wonder if its sales could have been even higher if they didn't go full weebo on this one.  Just being on the Switch alone was going to expose the series to a wider audience, but making it look like the FBI would arrest you for buying it probably scared off quite a few sales as well.

Hopefully they don't do what they did with Fire Emblem and double down on the perverted aspects thinking that's what made the series more popular, when things like Casual mode and improved production values did way more to increase that series appeal then Otaku jerk off bait

The XC1 didn't cross the million mark worldwide? I remember that game getting a lot of attention in the PAL and AUS areas before it finally did make it to the West where it basically sold out everyone and was hard to find. I would have thought that game passed the million mark easily with all the Wiis out there and acclaim that it got.

I would imagine the limited sales of XC1 more had to do with the print being a limited run than due to a lack of interest. They had no intention of making a second print of XC1.

I mean, it may have at this point thanks to virtual console... But I doubt it. According to wikipedia, XC1 launched in Japan at 80k sales, and came close to 200k by the end of 2013. Sales estimates for the west appear to put it (slightly?) higher than Japan, but that could still refer to anywhere from half a million upwards.
Add at least another 150k from the n3DS version (but also added cost of having Monster Games port it, add 3D, etc.)... Yeah it would've had to sell pretty well still on Wii U virtual console to pass the 1 million mark.

I think in North America, particularly the United States, it being an understocked Gamestop exclusive probably gave the impression of it selling really well. But maybe it really just was a lower print run. Haven't checked to see how it's faring nowadays in the 2nd hand market, but for a couple of years it would regularly pass hands at well above the MSRP.

Monster Hunter: World still rules the roost. It's followed by Dynasty Warriors 9 and the latest adventure of everyone's favorite protagonist, Kirito. Also, Dragon's Crown Pro came out.

Splatoon 2 crosses 2 million sales in Japan.

Casual mode won’t do a thing for a non-permadeath JRPG. Makes me wonder why they added it in the first place. But, if there’s only one thing Monolith takes from XC2 it better be that damn combat system.

Now if MHW was dropped day and date on the Switch as well, do you think it would sell nearly this well on both?
or is it best for Capcom to drop it on PS4 first, and then drop the late port on Switch in 4 month to capitalize on double dippers?

I genuinely believe (or irrationally hope) something Monster Hunter related will be on the Switch soon. The old rumors claimed the Monster Hunter Portable team was working on an alternative title for Switch. We will surely hear something by E3, whether that is Double Cross localization this summer, a port of World, or a new title.

I think it has to be XX. They've been waffling on World in public for so long it's like they know they can't bring it to Switch but won't outright tell us.

I haven't even seen MHWorld, but what about it would make it not scalable to Switch? Why would it need a lesser, or more portable specialized version?

The only thing holding it back would be a lack of optimized code or a refusal to reduce the advanced graphics down a notch for performance. Doom and Wolfenstein prove the Switch can handle these high graphic games, but you need a competent team to port it and there are some sacrifices that have to be made.

It could be that their code is so wildly un-optimized that no one could hope to get it running in an acceptable state on the system.
