Listen, I didn't tear through this game just so I could watch you all flounder and be scared of Lynels.

I have a second favorite place The Forgotten Temple What a rush!  Jump, run and sail like a wild man!

Holy crap that was so much fun! The best part of those kind of shrines is that getting there is the mission itself. I love it when the shrine dude is like "by getting here you have proven yourself". It's such a rewarding feeling.

Played a lot today so I feel I made a lot of progress.  Lots of shrines cleared, unlocked the tower for two new areas, some new armor, found my second great fairy!  I'm in the area of my second beast but I wasn't in the mood for that today so I explored other areas.

I tried the Guardian deflection and it's really satisfying to pull off.  I haven't tried against a mobile guardian yet though.  It's funny because I went back to an area that was quite Guardian infested thinking that I could now tackle it.

The tower in Central Hyrule is surrounded by Guardians.  I ended up scaling the tower entirely on stealth!  I didn't even need to use the shield deflection.  It's still tough though!  You need stamina because when you start climbing a section a Guardian will spot you and you have time to do two leaps until the next session where you'll be out of his sight.  Two of them watch the tower and they're stationary so I suppose you could always kill them first.

I played off and on over the weekend, looking for new towns, Great Fairies, & areas on the map I maybe haven't explored thoroughly enough.  I quickly accumulated 15 korok seeds, as i'm coming to find the landmarks they're usually located at, their "tell", is pretty easily identifiable once you've seen them enough.

I'm not sure if it's because my armor is underleveled or what, but in the farther reaches of the map, I'm still getting 1-shotted (not killed because of fairies & Mipha's Grace) by a lot of the "normal" enemies.  I'm guessing a part of it is me needing to get gud, but the current situation has made it to where I won't dare tread into unknown areas without at least 3-4 fairies.

I really enjoy just exploring the landscape for new enemies (there's a really enjoyable one deep into the Gerudo area), but I think for the sake of armor upgrades or missing pieces, I might start leaning on using the internet to pin point their location.  I'm going to keep myself blind for lynels, shrines, and korok seeds though, there's a lot of joy in stumbling across them or figuring out a puzzle without help.

Killed my first Lynel this weekend.  That guy was kicking my ass, but I started to learn the tricks.  My food was depleted, and I lost some gear.  But man, did it feel good to win that fight!  I was eager to fight another one until I pressed on the path I was going and found another one!  I realized very quickly that I didn't want to go through that again, especially since I'm low on shields after practicing deflecting the Guardian lasers.

But that led to a really fun discovery: I found a giant, freaking horse.  At first I thought it was one regular sized horse and a bunch of tiny horses, but I got close to it and it was huge!  I took a picture for the compendium and tried to tame it.  It was hard approaching it, even in my ninja suit, but I climbed a thing and got to it by gliding.  I was surprised to be able to tame it, and more surprised to be able to register it.  I was disappointed that I could only register so many horses and needed to let one go to keep my giant horse.  I ended up naming him Garganto.

Having done all the dungeons, I'm tempted to go to the end.  But I really wanna do more shrines.  At least 100.  I feel like I've explored so much of the map, but I'm still in the 80s.  I also wanna give that one island people were talking about a shot.  I think I'll aim to do that and see the ending this weekend.  I'll spend the week doing sidequests and trying to upgrade my armor then see where I'm at.  I also want to complete the memories.  SO MUCH TO DO!

Madness...OG bar is SO limiting in terms of the world's verticality.  Unless you're leaning heavily into cooking to boost stamina, I would find that to be really constraining my ability to make progress in the game.  But you do you, lol.

Funny enough I just took down my first Lynel yesterday also. I finally went off to Zora's Domain and took care of that whole mission. Walking the path, reading the history, exploring the land around the Zora Domain. Met the Zora people. It was kind of weird to encounter a people that had a lot who remembered Link and were affected by his failure in the past. Changed my mind. Zora Domain is now the weakest village in the game. It's beautiful in the sunshine but it's a smaller community and there are no real homes. I guess it's kind of neat that being a different species they do things a bit differently and everyone just sleeps in a communal pool area but the lack of homes and places just makes it feel empty and ornamental. It doesn't help that there aren't a lot of people to follow doing different things throughout the day. While there, I followed through with getting to the Divine Beast and beating it leaving 2 more Divine Beasts to rescue. Of course, doing so put me on a path to meet a Lynel but Stratos and others had already made this clear so I was expecting it. It would seem that the game may intend for this to be your first Lynel encounter since there is a cutscene for it.

However, you don't have to actually fight the Lynel if you don't want to. You can accomplish your objective sneaking around it which I did. Then I saved and decided to take another run at defeating him. I got my armor and weapons ready and decided on a strategy to use which involved trying to stun him with Urbosa's Fury that I've also got from my first Divine Beast completion. Overall, it was a really easy fight. When he did hit me, I only had like a heart or half a heart damage at times. I kept expecting to go down further in health but every time I checked after a hit the damage was low. So, I think this might be the weakest Lynel in the game. Shortly after finishing the Divine Beast mission, there was a Blood Moon so I'm thinking of going to face this Lynel again to see if it stays this easy. I never had to use a fairy to save me and I only had to eat one meal of food to replenish myself.

Maybe there is a difference between the color of Lynel manes. The first one I was fought was a white haired Lynel and its power and attacks were far greater. This red maned Lynel was hardly in the same league as the first one I tried to fight. The weapons he dropped after the battle were pretty much all weaker than stuff I was already carrying. One thing that was the same was that it would charge at me from a distance. I kept locking on to him and trying to jump out of the way at the right time to initiate a fury strike but I never got the timing right and he always seemed to hit me before I could jump out of the way. While it was good to take down a Lynel, I have to test and see whether I'm competent against other red maned Lynels or if this is just a starter Lynel.

Should have done Zora's Domain sooner. With all the wildlife and plant life along the way, I was able to get many things I needed to do some more armor upgrading and went nuts after saving the Zora with upgrading all the armor I have so far to get stronger for the journeys still yet to come. Just need another 2000 rupees to complete my current 10000 rupee quest. Also, maybe it's just me but I like getting a full set of armor and then matching weapons to blend in with the denizens and take on their culture. So, I was Gerudo Link with the complete outfit and Arabian/Gerudo weaponry to match. Now I was Zora Link with the complete Zora outfit and Zora weaponry to go with it. Curious to see what other Link transformations I can make up. Getting ready for some Tri-Force Heroes and costumes!

At this point, I think I should also take care of finding Hatsu in Korok Forest which might be somewhere in Hyrule Forest. Once again, I'm finding myself wanting more equipment space and would like to start using up more of these Korok seeds I've got. Will probably start playing through a bunch of the shrines I've got on my map as warp points and take care of some sidequests. I've got 2 memories to find but when looking at my memory list, there are still going to be a couple unaccounted for. I'm wondering where those come in. The Journey continues. I'll get to you sometime next month Zelda. You've been doing well with Ganon this long. I'm sure you can last a few more weeks before I get around to you.

I'm actually in that area, and I think I'll try that Lynel.  During my fight with the first one I took down, I came up with some strategies, so I'm not as nervous.  On the commute home, I was gathering wood for a side quest when a guardian surprised me.  First time I wasn't nervous about the encounter since I knew what to do.

Ok last thing for anyone who may know, I've got the Climbers Bandana and some sort of Climbers Shirt, are there Climbers Pants anywhere?

Yeah, you find them in a shrine quest: "The Secret of the Cedars" in Hateno Village.

I love it when the shrine dude is like "by getting here you have proven yourself". It's such a rewarding feeling.

Really? I always feel like Nintendo was just being lazy with those 20+ shrines. I rather Nintendo forced you to at least fight off a pack of Lynels or Guardians or Guardians riding Lynels.

So, tonight I went to the Lynel by Zora's Domain.  It wasn't a tough fight for me.  I didn't need to recover hearts once.  The weapons it dropped were weaker than the ones I got from the first Lynel I fought.

For a comparison, I went to fight the first Lynel I beat.  I only vaguely remembered where it was, but I then I remembered there were two, so I should be able to find one.  This fight was tougher, had to recover, but about what I remembered from before.  So, there's definitely a difference in Lynel strength that isn't cosmetic.  After killing it, I realized that this was the second Lynel I saw, so I decided to go find the first one.  Apparently, that guy had been working out since the last few blood moons.  It had more HP, a strong weapon, and some new moves I wasn't quite ready for. After losing both my shields (I only had two on hand) and wasting food and fairies, I decided to just load my last save.

There are three tiers of Lynels in the game, with the Zora's Domain Lynel being the easiest.

Evertide Island is one of the best experiences in the game, but Nile Boogie might not think so because he's a filthy casual.

Something annoying with the game is even after completing all 120 shrines, there's still 2 shrine quests missing on my list. It might be a bug as I was able to walk right into one of the shrines just fine and the quest only loaded after exiting it. This was the shrine surround by flowers. Has anyone else run into bugs like this?

There are three tiers of Lynels in the game, with the Zora's Domain Lynel being the easiest.

Actually, there are 4 but only 3 tiers of Lynel weapons: Lynels < Blue Maned Lynels < White devil Maned Lynels < Silver Lynels and there are Lynel weapons < Mighty Lynel weapons < Savage Lynel weapons.

I am getting close to 70 shrines now, and all the beasts done.  I didn't plan to upgrade my armor, because the main thing in the game that good armor is useful for is the thing I'd have to kill dozens of to get it, but I may get at least one level 4 upgrade if I can find the last fairy.  In the meantime, I am finding it funny how easy the Hinox are, even big brother black.  Like most RPGs, it is a good feeling to dominate enemies that you were scared to face early in.  The first time I wandered into a Hinox in a forest, I panicked!

Speaking of those, something happened with one on Evertide Island.  I was afraid to face the Hinox there and spent forever methodically weakening him.  Finally, he died and I ran over to grab the orb.  When I was near his spawn point, the blood moon kicked in and he was back... it was too funny to be mad.

Edit: Just wanted to say that I was grossly overestimating the number of Lynels I have to kill to get armor upgrades to the max.  I found the last fairy, plus found out that I can just save before a battle and repeat it if I don't get the drops I need.  I still suck at fighting them and eat a lot.  It seems like my dodges are usually a little out of sync.  I am also slow with aiming arrows, so getting airborne is my cheap strategy for doing that.

It's true that there are plenty (tons around the northern limit) and blood moons reset them.  It is the same thing every time, though, so gathering materials becomes classic RPG grinding that is best kept to a minimum.  Lynels are more interesting to fight than most, but there just aren't many enemy types in this game, so the material gathering tends to come from the same few creatures.  There is not much reason to fight ones that you randomly encounter, unless you are running low on weapons or want to give it a try if you've never fought one.

There is no real need to upgrade gear four times, so it isn't much of a complaint.  I am doing it more to justify spending all that money than anything else.  Haha.

I agree that the grinding element is the weakest aspect of Breath of the Wild's endgame, and that enemy variety and/or meaningful enemy encounters are lacking. These are two elements I'd love to see improved later, or, if there's any sort of lesson learned from this game, they tone down the amount of fast travel points. I was always surprised by the amount of options available in Twilight Princess, but the number of fast travel points in this game is a bit absurd, and counter-intuitive if you want people to really be adventuring across the land.

You could always exchange it for a piece of stamina. 1/5th of a stamina wheel is less impactful than a whole heart container.

Also, does anyone know what the new update for the game is? Just loaded it up and was notified of the update.

Play how you want to. It'll still end the same however you do it with Calamity Ganon's defeat (provided you get around to defeating the main villain). A little bit of warning: If you stay with just three hearts, it means you won't be able to acquire the Master Sword in this game and it means you won't be able to see one of the story memories in your adventure log.

Haven't been posting too much in this thread at the moment. It's funny. I was posting a lot of stuff on Miiverse when first playing and now I have to remind myself to maybe throw something on there. There are still surprises to be had but it seems like a lot of the game has been covered and discussed now and it's starting to become more familiar. The world a bit smaller with fewer new frontiers to discover. And yet, it hasn't diminished my playing of the game. Last night, I sank another 8 hours into it and I probably shouldn't have played it that long but it still keeps me going. I've been doing methodical searches of some areas to look for Koroks and shrines and battling all enemies I come across.

I'm going to do a bit of recap anyways on what I've been up to as I still like hearing what others have been doing and try to keep that conversation going.

I believe last I mentioned I had defeated the Divine Beast of the Zora region. I then began tackling the sidequests that came up from the various Zora and have completed them all except the lost mother which Caterkiller was having trouble on. I haven't spoiled the answer yet but I might if I get tired of the search. The father mentioned the mother could have been swept all the way to Lake Hylia so I thought that was the clue and went there to explore it fully after passing by on the Bridge of Hylia to get to the tower and activate it. I thoroughly covered that lake and uncovering all the treasure chests in the area. I honestly just like finding and opening treasure chest. Even something simple like that just makes it fun to explore and keep on covering every part of Hyrule. With Farosh flying around, I was able to grab a few pieces of horn to finally upgrade my Champion's Tunic. It was about this point that I decided to get on with my second objective after finally tackling the Zora Domain which was to find Korok Forest in order to get more equipment slots. I was finding some powerful weapons in Lake Hylia and the problem was being able to keep them as I kept debating whether I should swap out a weapon or just leave the chest behind knowing where I could find that weapon again.

I also knew there was a memory I could find nearby on my way to the Lost Woods to start entering Hyrule forest to search for the Korok Woods. I found that memory which was kind of hilarious because it showed the aftermath of Link's fight against monsters and so there are all these dead white maned Lynels and regular Bokoblins lying around having been slain. Man, Link was a killer before I took over being him in the future with his lost memories. Anyways, headed to the Woods. Was a bit confused at first on what to do. The Woods sort of leads you along to a certain point and then just stop and leaves it up to you to grope about. I finally followed a strategy of just following in the direction of the blowing wind to avoid being engulfed by a sudden wall of white. Not sure if that is how that portion is supposed to be done or I just lucked out but it worked and I found the Great Deku Tree and the Master Sword all together in Korok Forest. Just like I suspected weeks ago when I was looking from the top of Dueling Peaks and noticed the giant tree with pink cherry blossoms. It seemed to be such a large tree I figured it had to probably be the Deku Tree and the Koroks and Deku Tree were together in Wind Waker so I thought they might be together. I just thought the Korok Forest would be a subsection of the Hyrule Forest not the main area of that section of the map. I like the Korok Forest. Its got some magic and whimsy to it. I wonder if finding more Korok seeds means there would be more Koroks hanging around in that forest but I won't have a way to tell for sure until I locate more to see if there is a difference. I heard about people dying when pulling the Master Sword without enough health and so I wanted to do that at least once to see what happened. It was disappointing. I thought it was going to be some grand death scene but he just collapses/faint from running out of health and that's the end. Not worth bothering.

Having been able to locate Hatsu, the fat dancing Korok and get to him regularly, I gathered more spots for equipment doubling my bow capacity and enlarging my shield capacity to carry 10 of each and upgraded my weapon capacity to 22. At this point, I decided I wanted to get to Rito Village since I hadn't heard anyone really talking about it yet so I wanted to experience it before being possibly spoiled on it. Warped to a nearby point and made a beeline for it. I like it. It took a moment and before I realized the theme for the village is the Dragon Roost Island theme from Wind Waker. The Wind Waker nostalgia continues. That's a big plus. The music is part of the reason why I've liked Hateno Village and Gerudo Town over other villages. I also like how it's sort of a skyscraper with different levels. It makes sense for a bird people with the houses being sort of an open cage / nest hybrid.

Ultimately, I didn't spend much time there as I just wanted to tackle the Shrine for easy travel and was still working on other projects before adding and tackling the problems of Rito Village to my BotW workload. Although my plan had been to get 10 hearts first and then go on a Stamina upgrade run, being so close to acquiring the Master Sword, I decided to play a few more shrines I had put on my map as travel points but didn't beat to get the few more hearts I needed to get the sword. I went to one Shrine I had found as a quick warp point to the Rito Village and Tower for the area. Of course, after beating it, this led me to start exploring around the region a bit. However, I'm glad I did as I was suddenly surprised to see the red dragon Dinraal flying along in a nearby valley in a very low orbit. I had only seen in him in a far off distance by Death Mountain before. Knowing the Champions Tunic required Farosh's horn fragments to upgrade, I figured the other dragon's horn fragments were probably required as well. Plus, I had found the Spring of Power but didn't have a scale to unlock the shrine at the time while searching for a memory so this would be a chance to get one of those as well. I spent some time covering this area and hitting up the dragon at night. I'd also warp over to the Stable where I could sell Raw Gourmet Meat for 100 rupees each to work on getting to my 10,000 rupee goal. I reached that and finished up with my other business I mentioned and went to the last great fairy.

With the last Fairy acquired, I began doing some more upgrades on my armor at that point and finally called it a day although not without being frustrated for a moment. Close by the Fairy were some Bokoblins riding horses. One of them saw me and I started fighting them and it went most terribly. I ended up getting a Game Over from the encounter. It had been awhile since I experienced one of those aside from the deliberate one I mentioned earlier. I just chalked it up to playing too long but even regular enough enemies can still be lethal if you start playing like crap. My fault for not trying to eat food and heal myself more but food has become such an afterthought in this game for me especially with Mipha's Grace. If Mipha's grace gets activated on me, I usually will be able to survive and move on long enough for it to replenish itself before I might need it again. I almost don't even need fairies anymore now that I have it.
