Quote
There is a rumored WiiWare title floating around on the web right now. I am holding back on posting due to the rumored nature. I have a feeling that this game will be proven fake sooner or later. I just wanted to thank you for the tips. I’ll be sure to update you on the story if/when a confirmation/denial comes about.

Most informative news article ever.  Stay tuned for more breaking non-news as the story develops!

Anyone heard from Stabby lately?  Last we heard his motherboard was dead.  That was in December.

Hostile Creation hasn't been around lately, either.

Artimus disappeared quite some time ago.

kirby_killer_dedede has been gone for over a year.  (Yeah, he's probably Ty's alt, but still.)

Pour a little on the curb for our fallen homies.

Are we missing anyone else?

I was originally toying with the idea of a NWR Mod Hurt 'N' Heal, but knowing this board's history for involved forum games, I decided against it.  I figured a simple, one-time thing might have better results.

Rules for mods:  No banning anyone who doesn't vote for you.  You can however, give out all the negative/positive points you want in order to sway the results.  You can vote for yourself.  You cannot lock this poll just because you are in the lead.  In no way can I enforce these rules, so pretty much do whatever you want.

Bloodworth is not included in the options for obvious reasons.  Karl and Sklens aren't in because a) they're leaving/have already left NWR and b) they suck.  Any current staff member that's not included was left out because they don't post enough on the boards for anyone to even know who they are.  (Better luck next time, NintendoBadBoy87.)  The exception to this rule is Greg Leahy because he's in the podcast and is generally awesome.

I cross-my-heart-pinky-swear-promise not to change the question/options after everyone has voted.  (Unlike some people.)

Am I the only one excited for Nintendo DS? The games are looking quite stunning, especially those that appear to use the unique features fo the Nintendo (such as the Kirby game). I'm not sure what people were saying when they stated Nintendo nor other developers were taking creative advantage of the DS, because I definately see it in those videos!

Hello everyone this is my first post and I've been trying to join for a while.  To date me I was here when the controller was revealed and before.  I personally think that a Traditional Mario game is Terribly unsuitted for this style of controller.  If you ever played the game where you shoot the little guy to make him go through a platformer.  It could be that bad.  Lets face it Platforming itself in the bounce on head style is best done with traditional controls.  What needs to launch is there new IP.

This IP will be something that really takes advantage of the new controller in such a way that no one can imagine it playing anyother way.  A conversation should end up like this:

Bob:  Yeah it controls like Bomb'em Blastem 3049
Snoop:  Yeah Bembem is the shizzam
Bob: Word...

Sort of like when you tell someone it plays like Mario.  The character should be instantly recognized with the Genre and it should be one of those pure joy moments to use the controls.  Unfortunately Mario is already typed and as I said I don't see flicking the controller being anymore control then analog buttons.  So it's up to the new IP.  The last thing we need at launch is Mario stuck in a new click game, I know the Mario Sports titles are fun and so is Mario Party but no one consider them true hardcore Mario games.

So as I say it's new IP to the bat.

Also I think it be neat if the tutorial thing unlocks your free "random downloads."  In actuallity it probably be best that 1 was already on the disk and  walked you through the process offline and then the other you get when you connect and fully set things up to go online.  Because face it I just got my Wireless router and I'm a geek.  So what do you think that thy mere mortals will have from the get go?

I got my Ocarina of Time: Master Quest preorder disc yesterday.  (Thank you, Internet)

I started playing it and thus far I don't really see any differences between this new version and the original.  (Except for maybe a few more bad guys and a slightly increased difficultly level.)  Does anyone know what the differences in Master Quest are?  Is there a website that does a side by side comparison between the two versions?

I hate to say it, but the one and only thing which matters in any console war is software. If there's one thing Sony has done, it's shown that sheer number of titles is what makes a system a best-seller, coupled with a few massive hits here and there.

The first time this happened (N64 vs. PSX) it was exactly this scenario: lots of software on Sony's side and Square's support for the PSX. This time around, the DS has Square's support (from what has been said thus far) and the DS certainly SEEMS to have a plethora of titles, most of which are original games, and certainly more so than the PSP currently has lined up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to underestimate Sony, but I haven't seen nearly the software support for the PSP that the DS has been shown. If there's one thing I had to call it on, it'd be software. I think the whole double screen idea was a gamble, but judging by the fact that developers are leaping on the DS wagon like crazy, I think it's going to pay off...

No avatars, eh?  Well that's going to take some getting used to.  I always found it easier to identify posters by their avatar instead of their name.  But if it's not possible then there's no use complaining about it.

Coolest thing about these new forums: I now have a space seperating my first and last name!  Oh and no full screen popup ads is good too.

The cube can't play DVDs... Maybe a problem for some. But that also means no modchip in the world can make the Cube play warez. Maybe a problem for even more.

I hope Nintendo won't try to appeal to the masses. Appealing to the masses means unneeded functionality, cool graphics and mature content. And of course countless rehashes of the same game over and over again. Gameplay isn't enough to attract a person who has never read a review. The masses are dumb, don't expect rational behaviour. How do you think EA hold their position? Innovative gameplay?

This has got to be the most balanced editorial I've read about Nintendo's situation in some time. Why? Because of the very important acknowledgement of a particular value system in the way we may look at Nintendo. At one point the author states that, "If Nintendo wants to regain ..."

That "If" is very important, because it acknowledges that all of these ideas that Nintendo fans have of worldwide domination, all these concepts of marketting, mindshare, and money... these are based on the assumption that Nintendo, at their core, is a company solely focused on winning the marketshare war.

Which, if you instead consider Nintendo a company built around Shigeru Miyamoto's legacy... it isn't.

Think about it: Nintendo has been built around Shigeru Miyamoto games. Even when Yamauchi was in charge, his most significant and pivotal action was to create an environment in which Shigeru Miyamoto could create freely. And Shigeru Miyamoto doesn't care about marketshare, he doesn't care about appealing to just adults, or in winning any image war. He doesn't care much about how many third parties Nintendo has... Shigeru Miyamoto, and Nintendo by extension, has just one core value: creative, high-quality games which are not dependent on graphics or gameplay. (This is opposed to SquareEnix, whose games are built wholly around graphics and storylines, with gameplay as a less important topic)

Looking at Nintendo this way, it's apparent that Nintendo will never have as many third-parties as Sony, and will enver have as cool an image as Microsoft. It becomes apparent that Nintendo's true philosophy is one that propels it towards creating the next Pikmin, or next Mario Kart... not the next awesome commercial or the next all-inclusive piece of home media center hardware.

And perhaps...when Nintendo Fans truly accept Nintendo as a company not meant to lead in terms of marketshare, but meant to lead in terms of visionary game design... perhaps THEN Nintendo fans will learn to appreciate their chosen company fully...

And perhaps they'll appreciate Nintendo enough to stop trying to turn it into Sony or Microsoft.

Yes, Rayman 3 will be time exclusive to the Nintendo GameCube and it will advertised as "Only on Nintendo Gamecube" for a number of weeks or months. This game was made from the ground up for the Nintendo GameCube and as a result of that it will be released on Nintendo GameCube first and later, inferior ports will become available on other systems, ala Splinter Cell.

Each quote is posted in its entirety, except for a few people who signed their name at the bottom (which had to be removed) and a couple of links/smilies (which had to be updated for the new forums).

I know you can just search through each person's posts to find the answers, so try to figure it out without cheating.  Also, if you see your post up here, don't point it out to everyone else before they've had a chance to guess on their own.

Make your best guesses, and I'll post the answers here in a few days.  Good luck!

EDIT:  I've updated this post to include the answers in spoiler text.

...the more Smash_Brother's constant complaining about Brawl bugs me.

I know, I know: it's just meaningless nitpicks, it's silly and ridiculous to be bothered by one man's forum ramblings.

And I know SB is reallying looking forward to Brawl at his core, but this is the first time I've wanted to use a move on him which would, IRL, be indicative of lethality.

Yes, I know he has lots of contributions to meaningful discussions, but his inane demands drive me nuts: I can only take so much complaining about balance issues before I'm going to snap.

I realize the implication of death looms over him all the time, but never has it been as serious as this.

I have a hard time believing that anyone is okay with this. I understand the desire to seek a "perfect game", but creating countless posts on the same three topics seems to be a cheap way of doing that.

I miss that we don't do this anymore.

I was going through my Wii Friend Code list today to update it, etc.  I decided to update VGRev (i.e. VGRevolution) to her current name, Golden Phoenix.  Unfortunately, her name is stupidly long and won't fit in the Wii's horribly short 10-character limit.  So I went with Golden P.  After I paused for a few seconds to laugh I decided to go with G Phoenix.  True story.

On a similar note, last year when I was entering everyone from the forums I got stuck on Couch Monkey for a while.  At first I went with C Monkey but eventually settled on Couch Monk.

Regardless, I hate long handles that can't be easily abbreviated.
