Nintendo Gaming / Re: "New 3DS" model

This New 3DS is nothing more than a stopgap system, and these features could have been saved for a true next-gen handheld. I'll still be buying one because existing games will likely run better with that CPU boost.

The days of a static handheld platform lasting 8 years are over. Games meant for an iPad Air 2 are going to run like crap on an iPad from 2011.

Imagine if console makers did this. Developers and consumers would be pissed.

Nintendo is doing the same thing SEGA did with the Genesis and Saturn.

So this is technically a stopgap between this gen and next gen. Why is it needed? Adding extra buttons that won't be used by a majority of 3DS games is pointless. These additions should have been saved for a proper next gen handheld.

Imagine if Nintendo made a new Wii U with extra RAM and a faster CPU and then said the new games won't work on the old Wii U. Everyone would be pissed.

General Gaming / Need help buying a new TV
« on: August 28, 2014, 09:39:02 PM »
I currently have a 3 year old LG 32" 720p LCD TV (not LED). I want to upgrade to a better quality LED TV, and my budget is $250.

Should I buy a 32" 720p TV for under $230, or a 32" 1080p TV for around $250? The brands I looked at were Samsung, LG, and Vizio.

Many of what you complained about would come under my suggestion for a "False Claim" cause.  Got permission, then get flagged anyway?  False claim.  No music?  False claim.

While I don't *agree* with this type of enforcement, the fact is the streamers don't own the music, thus don't have the right to broadcast it.

I think it's a bad tactic, but they're within their rights.

When you put it that way they technically don't "own" the games either. Unless by own you mean bought... Well many people do buy their songs, so in that sense they own them as much as they own the games they're streaming.

General Gaming / Re: Why don't handheld gamers care about specs?
« on: August 14, 2014, 04:11:28 PM »
Then gamers are hypocrites. They keep saying they want better specs and more power, they build powerful PC's, buy powerful consoles, and buy powerful phones. Yet when it comes to handhelds, they stick with Nintendo, even if more powerful handhelds are available.

General Gaming / Why don't handheld gamers care about specs?
« on: August 14, 2014, 03:49:00 PM »
Gamers and developers are obsessed with specs and hardware power. PS4 outsells and gets more support than Xbox One and Wii U because it's more powerful. Smartphones, PC's, and tablets get more powerful every year. PC gamers always want the best specs, GPU companies are trying to push the limits of mobile graphics, etc.

But when it comes to handhelds, it's like no one cares about specs anymore. Vita was lauded as the most powerful handheld of its time, yet the weaker 3DS outsold it. Game Boy outsold Game Gear, DS outsold PSP, the list goes on.

General Gaming / I don't get this whole indie movement
« on: August 04, 2014, 12:54:03 PM »
It's nice for people to be able to make the games they want on their own, but is leaving a big corporation really worth it? They're sacrificing job security and experience to make a game independently that may not be successful. Furthermore, indie developers always make themselves out to be the victims who were persecuted by the "big evil publishers". You don't see music artists rebelling against record labels, or movie producers rebelling against movie studios.

Nintendo Gaming / RUMOR: Nintendo management unhappy with Iwata
« on: August 02, 2014, 01:13:42 PM »
I found a very interesting rumor on GoNintendo. Apparently, Nintendo's management is unhappy with Iwata and they want to kick him out. They also want the company to start making smartphone games. Of course Iwata is against that, saying Nintendo's specialty is making integrated hardware and software.

Since the Wii and Wii U use very similar architecture, it should be very easy to port the existing VC games over. At least we have Capcom's support.

You know that Nintendo could alleviate this whole VC support issue if they just made it a completely separate and independent service that is accessible (for now) only through Nintendo hardware.

No one wants to pay fees to have them released on the Wii.... then pay fees again to have it released for the 3DS, then pay fees yet again to have then released on the Wii U as well, and then so on and so forth.
Same goes for the consumers buying the games. I bought it on the Wii.... then you forced me to pay to upgrade it onto the Wii U, and I also had to rebuy for the 3DS....
**** all that. allow me to buy it once and play it anywhere and I'll likely expand my collection. Force me to buy and buy again (...and again), and you've probably lost another customer.

So many easy fixes to stupid Nintendo problems.

You do realize that the VC games on Wii, 3DS, and Wii U all use different emulators that have to be rebuilt from scratch on each new system... Nintendo could have easily made a console emulator that runs all the games instead of coding each one individually.

TalkBack / Re: Sega Producer: No Plans for Wii U Virtual Console
« on: July 14, 2014, 04:18:49 AM »
One of the big selling points of the Virtual Console service was support for Nintendo and non-Nintendo platforms. SEGA saw how successful the VC service was on the original Wii, so why are they withholding support now? They put stuff on the 3DS VC and 3D Classics, so why not port the existing VC games to Wii U?

At least we have Capcom's support. Now all we need are Konami, Namco, Square Enix, etc. All these companies put games on the Wii VC, so they can easily port them to the Wii U because the two systems share very similar architecture.

General Gaming / Sound chips in game systems

This really does seem like the perfect opportunity for DLC. $20 base game with SMB1 enemies and items, $5 SMB3 pack, $5 SMW pack.

Having different grades of sprite graphics would be cool, but I'm more curious if you can scroll up much/at all. Having SM3 and SMW items won't matter much if you can't build the levels up vertically.

That's what I love about Mario Builder on the PC. It gives you a completely blank canvas so you can make your levels as big as you want.

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Maker level editor
« on: June 12, 2014, 11:24:42 PM »
Coming from a USGamer interview with Takashi Tezuka ...

"Obviously, there will be other graphical styles included and nothing's been decided yet, but I'd also like to include other graphics that aren't Mario. No, it won't be top-down (like Zelda) It's always going to be a 2D platformer."

- plans to integrate more enemy and object types
- hopes to include features similar to those of that of Mario Paint
- would like to add a music composition feature
- Tezuku says "sharing with friends is really the whole point of making levels"
- details on sharing have not been made public

Someone should take another picture from a different angle. That way we'll know if this is real before the conference.

The person was probably standing far from the poster so he wouldn't get caught by anyone passing by. The picture is clearly zoomed and cropped, making it blurry.

People on NeoGAF have doubted the picture's authenticity since it's in the same section as the Smash Bros. demo station. However, a staff member from Polygon tweeted that he allegedly saw the poster himself (he's supposedly at the LA Convention Center).

Am I in the Funhouse?

No, no. This topic regards the rumor about Mario Maker.

It was a joke...

Anyways, I'm really excited about this rumor. I have Mario Builder on my PC, and I loved making levels in the Mario vs DK games, so this is right up my alley.

But people on NeoGAF have doubted the picture's authenticity since it's in the same section as the Smash Bros. demo station. However, a staff member from Polygon tweeted that he allegedly saw the poster himself (he's supposedly at the LA Convention Center).
